This Hampton Inn sits in San Diego's Hotel Circle. In fairness to Hampton Inn, which I have always loved, I was told this was originally a different motel, bought and renamed by Hampton Inn many many years later. Also, I realize that many people may look at this and wonder why I didn't just go complain to management/staff and ask for a different room. However, it is my opinion that when a large mote/hotel chain does the same things day after day, year after every profitable year, the staff and operations should operate like a well oiled machine. No excuses. So, below I have listed a few of my observations while staying here in room 501. We checked in online using the Hilton honors app. It was very convenient. It was 1030 in the morning, I got to choose which room I wanted, and I got a nice message letting me know my room would be ready at 3 pm. How cool is that?! We got there at 3:15 or so, and I was told that neither my selected room, or any other king bed room was available, as they had not cleaned them yet. Strike one. Why offer a feature such as online check in and personal room selection if it doesn't work? By 4pm, we were good to go, and again, in fairness, I was offered a drink as a gesture for the late preparations, which I politely declined. When we got to the floor we were on, the first thing I noticed was the terribly filthy windows, not only in the elevator lobby, but also in my room. As I looked around our room, I noticed a couch and a chair which my wife refused to even touch. I sat in the couch, and it squeaked as bad as the tin man before he got his oil can. It was obviously extremely worn, and dirty. I would be embarrassed to present that to any customer of mine. Prices are not cheap, and parking is 21 dollars a night. Ridiculous, but this is California. However, I would think Hampton/Hilton, could afford to upgrade furniture at least every 25 years without going broke. What about reputation? The bed was fairly comfortable, but not great, and it squeaked as bad as the couch when my wife and I practiced our evening relaxation "yoga". I hope the neighbors didn't mind. I am not a building engineer, I don't know the construction code, but I felt like the fully exposed light bulb in the shower could easily become a hazard. There was no glass cover keeping it from being splashed by water and it looked like unfinished construction as I could see up into the space above it. The toilet seat had grey speckles of something on it, that my wife wiped off. The maids had just left, so I assume it was some kind of cleaner??? Speaking of codes and regulations, why is it that the elevator certificate has been expired for over a year now? I checked all 3 elevators. See the photo I included. The road noise is terrible here. My room with a "great view" as it was called, looked right over the highway. Pretty in areas, but not conducive to a good night sleep at all! I was woken at least a half dozen times because of all the road noise. I dont sugar coat anything, and as I said before, I've always thought Hampton inn was a nice place to go. But maybe not this one. Even the business center was closed…."out of order, sorry for the inconvenience." I tried to connect to wifi several times unsuccessfully. After speaking to the front desk I was informed that wifi for guests is down too. This just keeps getting better, I think to myself. Needless to say, this was a very disappointing experience from what I always thought was a great brand. I would not visit this location again, and I would not recommend it to anyone else. Don't get me wrong Hampton, I'm not stomping around mad. I'm just really disappointed. I don't think I am unreasonable either. I do believe though that price should reflect the quality of the product, and the pride one takes in...
Read moreWorst hotel experience i have ever had. Drove up to San Diego with the boyfriend to celebrate our 3 year anniversary, after searching days before our visit for a decent hotel we came across the Hilton, we didn't bother to read the reviews, which now we regret. When we got to the hotel we noticed there was no parking available, and the parking lot had no lighting, seemed way too dark, so we ended up driving around and found a parking garage that was lit up right ahead, not thinking anything we went ahead and parked. Little did we know 20 minutes later we were going to get broken into. That is how long it took for a thief to notice our doors were not closed correctly and steal all our stuff from our vehicle. When we got back to our car after checking in to the hotel we noticed our bags were missing, we quickly approached the front desk and let the lady in the counter know we were just robbed, she filed a hotel theft report, told us if we wanted to file a police report we had to do it on our own, we asked if we could see video footage and she said we couldn't, only the manager had access to in which the manager would be in first thing the next morning, security guard was on his break, or just clocking in, not sure....anyways the next day we are able to speak to the manager, the lady told us that without the police report she couldn't see any footage, then she told us that to make up for our "theft" she would kindly waive our parking fee. Manager seemed so useful, it seemed like she was annoyed by us as we kept asking her during our stay if she had seen or heard anything around the hotel. Supposably the manager when we asked her for video footage told us that she couldn't see footge without a police report, but the second time we asked her about a camera we seen outside and were wondering if the camera may have caught some footage of the parking garage she then states that she looked into the cameras and she couldn't see anything. She made no sense, seemed like she was lying and i guess Apparently behind the hotel live homeless people. For all we know it could have been homeless that broke into our car, but we will never know since the Hilton can't afford security cameras surrounding there entire building. Ridiculous!!!! Will never stay at a Hilton...
Read moreOverall excellent experience. We were in the San Diego area for one week and stayed at this hotel. The hotel is located off hotel circle where there are a plethora of other hotels so there are a lot of tourist. Across the freeway there are lots of shopping centers (Target, Hooters, Chipotle etc.. And not too far from that area is the Fashion Valley mall where there again are lots of shopping centets (you would have to drive because they are not within walking distance) The hotel is within a reasonable driving distance from the airport and not too far from Sea World and the Zoo, its about a 30 minute drive from the Safari park, but if you time it correctly, you can very easily miss the traffic. The beaches are of a reasonable distance from the hotel. The check in process was very easy. The room was clean as well. There is breakfast daily from 6-10 and it is very good, it changes daily. From omelette, sausages, waffles, fruit, cereal, toast, bagels, potatoes etc..There is a nice variety each day. Be sure to get there early because the line for the waffle maker can get long. The rooms were very nice and clean. They do not have microwaves in the rooms, however I overheard another guest requesting one for his room. I think they were limited in quantity but there is a microwave in the lobby/ snack area/room. We purchased snacks from the grocery store and just used the microwave in the lobby. The snacks in the snack area are a bit pricey, and when I say pricey I mean 4-5$ for an ice cream bar about 3-4$ bucks for a bag of popcorn. The rooms are quiet, we didnt have any issues with noise until our last night when I bunch of teenagers roomed next to us, but overall there were no issues. The bathrooms were clean. There is a mini fridge. The pool area is nice as well. Parking is $19.00 a night. There is the option to park on the street but it is very very limited. There is ample parking in my opinion, (but we also started our day at 9:00 and usually were back to the room by 6pm so we always had parking. )they have a little/mini two story parking garage near the back which in my opinion help to create additional spaces. Overall we were very satisfied with our week stay, and would consider this hotel is staying in...
