My husband and I are staying in the area and have now ordered from this place (or it's sister restaurant, The Waffle Spot) three times. We were happy the first two times and my husband said that he ate the best California Burrito of his life from The Amigo Spot. It was fresh and the carne was tender. If it weren't for what happened this last time we ordered, I would have given them a 5-star review. When I called to make the order the most recent time, I asked if I was able to order one item from each restaurant menu. I was assured - "of course." So, I placed an order for a California Burrito (from The Amigo Spot menu) and a Machaca Burrito (from The Waffle Spot menu) about 40 minutes before closing. I was told the order would be ready in 20... so, we set an alarm and the husband went to go get the food when it rang. At this point, it was 10-15 minutes before closing. The husband came back and we opened the food just about 25 minutes later, only to find that my order (which was supposed to be Machaca) was a Macho Burrito (from The Amigo Spot menu) - i.e., not what I had ordered. Clearly there was a break down between the order taker and the kitchen. I called to explain that my order was wrong and the woman was very apologetic. She took my name and number and said that her boss would call me the next day (as it was 17 minutes past closing at that point). However, no one ever called me that day. So, the following morning, my husband went over and explained the situation... luckily, the woman remembered. I finally got my Machaca burrito! But, if my husband hadn't been persistent, I would have never gotten it. So,...

We were exited to try this spot after seeing pictures and reviews. I ordered a margarita and it was the worst I’ve had in my lifetime. It didn’t taste like there was ANY alcohol and I think it’s an accurate assumption. If you’ve ever had a Skinny Girl Margarita you know they are gross and taste like limeaid. Ew.

Onto the dinners. One fish and steam vegetables the other chicken tacos. Steamed vegetables were undercooked, raw, and hard. My traveling companion left them on the side. Fish was good.

My chicken tacos were anticlimactic. Dark shredded chick with cheese only. No flavoring, seasoning, sauce, or limes. Just a flavorless dark chicken with a pile of cheese. I left my 2nd taco because it wasn’t worth the calories. My side of rice was good and edible.

Service was not good. We asked for a check and our waiter was chatting up another table, running plates before he came back and had forgotten we even asked for the check. We easily waited 15 minutes from the time we asked for the check to the 2nd time we asked for it. Also, when you have that much food left on your plates and a drink 3/4 full you should inquire about to because clearly something is off.

There are so many amazing Mexican restaurants in the area unfortunately this one isn’t one. All of the places we’ve eaten at while in San Diego were phenomenal except here. Best bet is just go to Old Town if you want Mexican food. This place is not...

We decided to give the Amigo Spot another try since we were staying at the motel where it is located. We had a bad experience the first time we tried it a couple years ago but we were too tired to look for another restaurant. It was taco Tuesday. We thought who could mess up tacos. Well, they were terrible. We got two orders of tacos and multitas. The tortillas were so thick and hard to bite into. They were like thick shoe leather. We had to take the filling out to eat it. The meat was tasteless and extremely dry. It was not edible. The chips were stale, like they came out of an open bag that had been there a few days. The salsa had a very strange taste and had little bubbles. I’m glad we only tasted it. To put it bluntly, they need to go out of business and let a well run restaurant take over. The ambiance is so old and looks dirty. The staff was nice but there were only two families in this huge restaurant. We will never eat here again. It’s not worth a dime. The motel is worth staying and the waffle spot was five star. I wish they were open through...

Stayed at the motel on my way up the coast. Read the reviews and was skeptical, but had to try the attached restaurant as I’ve had Mexican food all over California (Born and raised in San Francisco) and the Southwest and think I have a good idea what good and great Mexican food is. (I’m a serious burrito freak and had the Carne Asada “Macho” burrito...never seen one so large!! -Bought a cooler and ice pack to save the rest and babied that leftover for two overnight stops before I had access to a microwave!!) My verdict is this was among THE best I’ve had to date. Seriously. Plus our waiter, Antonio was one of the most personable waiters I’ve experienced. He was extremely proud of the food he served and his service was excellent. If you like Mexican food and are anywhere close to this place, you’ll be doing yourself a serious disservice if you don’t try this restaurant.

LET ME JUST SAY THIS... This is by far the best Spanish Food i have eaten so far. Im from the Inland Empire and i like to come to San Diego every now and then to vacation and try new food spots and I'm glad i found this place. The service is great and my waiter made me feel comfortable, I appreciate your professionalism senior i really do. Some Spanish places i go to they're sometimes rude and the food is half cooked but not this place. If you've been to SD and haven't eaten here you need to ASAP. I will definitely be returning on my next trip. THANK YOU !!
