In town during Week of COMIC-CON for work. They had one room being renovated. I was near this room. Workers were there working until 8 PM! Front desk staff stated that the GM had to be contacted first before they could ask workers to leave. After several attempts, they were able to get them to leave. Workers were installing hardwood floors, dropping the boxes onto the deck making a loud boom sound. I could only imagine the people in Rm directly below on what craziness they were going through. This occurred for 2 1/2 days! Totally UNSAT! I understand hotels go through reno periods, but work usually stops by 5-6 PM. This place, not so. I would not recommend anyone staying here until all renovation work is done as I seriously doubt you'll have any peace. Front desk staff aren't the problem, poor management & lack of leadership skills are! Your front desk personnel should not have to call the GM to make workers stop work at late hours. This hotel is definitely outdated inside and outside. Room entries are on the back side facing the hill & outdoors! Paint faded, carpets worn. Place needs a lot of work to catch up to other C-wood Suites I've stayed at. Praise goes to Danielle @ the front desk during my stay for doing everything humanly possible to get the workers to stop. YOU guys owe her a pay raise & a paid day off! Thanks Danielle for your untiring effort to get the work stopped @ a reasonable time. I called & filed complaint with corporate guest management for. They referred issue to GM @ hotel. His solution, give me extra bonus points. Did not address the issue at all. IHG corporate, you need to retrain GM AXAY SAYANIA, he obviously has no skill in management or planning work to be done in this hotel. Also, update your website, your gym does not have free weights, the weight machine cables for the arm workouts are too short, cable bottoms out on the pulley, results in less than 1/2 arm rotation. Exercise room is too hot, AC not effect & directly located next to the laundry room. Had a King bedroom, room large, had ants in my bed. Maintenance used SPECTRICIDE fm the store to spray, seemed to keep them away for rest of visit. Light switches are the motion sensor type, had one that could not figure what it worked. TV remotes, you either have to point them toward the top of the TV or the bottom, no set pattern on how to make them work, but once I figured out my remote, able to use them. HBO guide useless, didn't have the correct HBO channel for the guide provided. No TV channel guides...
Read moreI was a self-pay participant for a family member's Make-A-Wish trip. Originally we were supposed to stay with my family at their hotel (4 miles away), but three days before we flew out, we were asked to find a separate hotel. My husband is an IHG member so I called IHG to see if they would work with me on finding the best deal as 1. A Diamond Member and 2. Traveling on a Make-A-Wish trip. We landed on Candlewood Suites.
I was happy we were only 4 miles away from my family, but driving in San Diego is different than what I'm used to. 4 miles at home takes 10 min max with traffic/lights/etc. 4 miles in San Diego 15 min. minimum and at one point 30+ min. Still not too bad. We usually left early in the morning and came back late at night - always feeling safe. It was also super close to the airport which was nice since I arrived late and was departing super early.
For food - we went to Kings Inn (next door) once for dinner (Amigos) and twice for breakfast (Waffles). I really wanted to visit local coffee shops, but there aren't any close by and easy to get to so I bought coffee, filters, and creamer from the store and made coffee every morning in the room. Old Town is close, but parking takes time (too much time for just getting coffee).
The room was mostly great. My mom took the king sized bed and I took the pullout sofa. They aren't the best mattresses, but we were fine. My only complaint is that the AC unit was loud. It worked which I was grateful for, but it made a noise like ice cubes being shook in a shaker. I'm deaf in one ear and it bothered me - I can't imagine how it would sound to someone with good hearing.
My mom used the hot tub a couple times which she enjoyed. I did laundry which I appreciated having. The fitness center was nice and fully equipped (multiple people were using it which I found encouraging). The folks at the front desk were very kind and accommodating. It's a family run location and some family members were out playing soccer and enjoying their time while other family members worked - I...
Read moreStaff exceedingly friendly and promptly solved or tried to solve each and every request from room amenities and Internet password to finding a lamp for a dark corner in our room to as many towels and blankets as we requested. (They never did get phones to work, one bathroom fan to work, or security gate to work correctly all the time.) Staff took a sincere interest in us as guests and repeatedly stated it was their job to help us have a wonderful stay. Two staff even came to view the hummingbird nest outside our door in an attempt to preserve it from the gardeners' trimmers. Staff always smiled! Few hotel staff, in my experience, appear to enjoy their work as much as these ladies and the custodian do. Last fall, we surveyed several hotels in an attempt to house up to 7 family members together with some sort of cooking/refrigeration possibilities. We found this one and though more than we would spend for only a hotel room, the added bonus of not having to eat out several times per day made up for that. At the last minute, we reserved a second room to have more space to get ready for a wedding and for young adults to have some space away from older adults. Got the last one - plan way ahead! The floors in some areas of our rooms were so slanted that we had to consciously balance to avoid a fall; kitchen floor was the place to watch the chair and Mom's walker quickly slide away from table to window. A safety hazard as the chair might be gone by the time you tried to sit down and Mom had to retrieve her walker more than once. Our closet door was also nearly impossible to open because the carpet was too high and/or door not correctly leveled to slide over it. Windows could open for fresh air (YAY!!), but were hard to push. Very strange remodel...still a nice place to stay with nice people to help make it a pleasant stay. Thanks...
