I've stayed at each of the Wyndham properties in this part of town, including all of those along Lombard Street (and many other hotels throughout the area), and I can easily say this is my least favorite. Why?
First, while this hotel's pricing is similar to those along Lombard Street, they sock you with a $25 parking charge. Compare this to all of the Lombard Street Wyndham hotels, and most others along Lombard Street, where parking is free. When you're paying around $120 for a motel room, $25 is a very large surcharge.
Second, this property has the worst road noise of any of the nearby properties at which I've stayed. All of the rooms directly face the road, unlike the Lombard Street properties which generally face internal courtyards. Moreover, it is directly on a busy intersection, so you get to hear cars and trucks grind to a halt, then rev their engines as they accelerate once again.
Other than those issues, the rooms are similar to those you'll find at similar properties, and the staff is very polite.
On the positive side, the property is located very close to Fisherman's Wharf. In that respect, it's somewhat unfair to compare it to the Lombard Street properties. And it is very competitively priced for that area. So if you are a tourist with a prime interest in Fisherman's Wharf, it is very well situated, at a good price. But there are very good public transportation options from Lombard Street, and some very cool shopping streets a short walk away. In short, for those who have an interest in areas of San Francisco other than Fisherman's Wharf, I'd definitely...
Read moreStayed here about three weeks ago (just finished trip). Stayed four nights, the last night moved to a different room (nothing available before then). Spotty wifi, no breakfast, good walking location for the wharf (6-7 blocks depending on destination). Parking was available but very tight, and found out on arrival it was an additional $25 per night (not mentioned on website). A little bit of traffic noise, but not too bad.
First room: LOTS of stairs and no elevator to third floor (split stairs off to the side if you are able to park on the street) difficult for carrying luggage. Good big room with several windows for fresh air and nice view of city. Couldn't use AC because of bad smell, so kept windows open when people weren't smoking outside. Loud pipes behind headboard in housekeeping closet. Two other appliance/amenity issues, but maintenance addressed both satisfactorily. Front desk was responsive to concerns and did what he could to fix things in a timely fashion, moved us to a new room the last night.
Second room: On first floor to avoid stairs. Much smaller/more cramped than original room, TV set up was precarious. More user-friendly with AC and such-- seemed like that was because it was occupied more frequently than our first room. Housekeepers in the morning were...
Read more(Stayed in 2017) Parking opportunity if you pay us25+tax. Packages shipping receiving service for free: I was able to send an eBay bid that I won, allowing me save a lot of money. Receptionist guy: Speaks worst English that I do, so you can barely understand him. No elevator: most of the rooms are on 1st and 2nd floor. The hole building is not leveled: all the building has 1 grade of inclination, which could be fine, but the building is not prepared for that, so all the wardrobes kept opening up (no lock). No security box. Wi-Fi: do as if there wasn't any at all. Worst Wi-Fi ever. I would have write a checking-in review (available only during the stay), but I couldn't. If you are traveling for work, assume there is no internet service. Breakfast: is it a joke? A couple of Nature Valley cereal bars, and a cup of coffee can't apply as "breakfast included". In addition, there is no place to have that so called breakfast, you have to take it to your room, or somewhere else. Check-out: if you are planning on leaving early, cancel it. Checking out is not possible until 7:30 in the morning. Worst stay ever, and I don't...
