I stayed 1 night at the Holiday Inn Express in Scottsbluff when passing through northwestern Nebraska and western Wyoming for business.||||This is an older 1990s Holiday Inn Express that was renovated just before the pandemic. I last stayed here in 2020, when it still had a new paint smell.||||On the whole, they've done an excellent job keeping the property look good despite it being a small building with one of the earliest Holiday Inn Express designs. ||||The lobby is refreshed but small. Especially the breakfast room area. They could really use an annex.||||My room on the third floor was a little cramped. I think two people staying more than one or two nights would run out of space. But the room (again renovated before the pandemic) featured one of the newer designs. It had a seemingly endless number of accessible USB and electrical outlets. Most of them worked, although two USB outlets were nonfunctional. The TV was big and had a huge selection of channels. ||||The toilet and shower are in an old-fashioned water closet, separated from the sink, which is in the main room. That's something you see in older motels and older Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express designs. In the water closet, the shower is a bathtub with shower. I much prefer this to newer designs that remove the bathtub for a walk-in shower. I find the walk-in showers are never clean. The bathtub was spotless with no signs of mold or mildew.||||There was a large armoire with plenty of hangers and then a luggage bench as well as wall-mounted hooks. So, at least you could put your luggage somewhere even if the room was smaller. Additionally, my room had a clock, in-room phone, medium-sized refrigerator, a microwave, and Keurig coffeemaker. The toiletries have been replaced with dispensers. Hand wash and lotion by the silk on the wall and then shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.||||Housekeeping does an excellent job. The room was spotless. Cleanliness is excellent. The room was one of the cleanest hotel rooms I've received in a long time.||||Breakfast was the typical Holiday Inn Express buffet. Nothing extra. ||||At night, at least during my stay, the hotel was offering a 2-hour happy hour reception from 5 to 7 pm with three kinds of beer and assorted foods. The beer selection consisted of Miller Lite and two kinds of German beer. This was free for all guests. I don't know if it was a one-time thing or what. While I don't drink beer, it was very generous. ||||In the lobby were free copies of the local newspaper and also a rack with with assorted tourist brochures.||||If I had complaints:||||1) Noise insulation is horrible. You can hear the outside noise, including cars and trains.||||2) IHG elite status recognition is nonexistent. I don't have high expectations at a Holiday Inn Express but the front desk clerk could have at least thanked me for my status (IHG Diamond and Intercontinental Ambassador) and offered me a bottle of water or something from the pantry off the side of the lobby. The pantry has assorted drinks and snacks.||||3) The gym is below-standard. Two old treadmills and one old bike. That's it. No weights. No mats. There's plenty of space for more equipment. ||||4) No bar of soap is provided; just an empty dispenser with hand wash. ||||All things considered, this is a very good Holiday Inn Express. Certainly better...

On the whole, they've done an excellent job at keeping this 1990s-era hotel looking good, despite it being a small building with one of the earliest Holiday Inn Express designs.
My room on the third floor featured one of the newer Holiday Inn Express designs. It had multiple accessible USB and electrical outlets. Most of the outlets worked, although two USB outlets were nonfunctional. The TV was big and had a huge selection of channels.

Breakfast was the typical Holiday Inn Express buffet.

IHG elite status recognition is hit-or-miss. And gym is basic with older equipment. I complained about these issues, as well as the broken USB outlets, in a post-stay survey. The hotel's GM contacted me, apologized and offered some points as a goodwill gesture. The points weren't necessary but they were appreciated.
All things considered, I would stay here again and also recommend the hotel to anyone visiting the...
Read moreThis has been our second time at this hotel, the first time was great, except the only ice machine that works is on the first floor. This time we had a horrible experience with the front desk staff.l and still the only I e machine that works is in the first floor. When we booked the only availability was for a king size bed. We are a family of 5 and we’re coming for a baseball tournament so we took it and planned to bring an air mattress as all other hotels were sold out. I called the morning of checking to see if there was availability for a double bed room. The staff than was unhelpful and no luck. When we got to the hotel to check in we asked again to see if there was any options. The front desk staff, a new employee said they had lots of open rooms available and that she could get it switched. Since she was new she called in another gal named Felicia who from the beginning was very rude, had an attitude and said she couldn’t help us because we booked through booking.com. She said we would need to contact them in order to modify our reservations. We spent over an hour on the phone between the booking.com agent and him communicating with the hotel to get it changed. He than sent a new confirmation email and we went to check in. Felicia than proceeded to tell us they didn’t have a new modify reservation. I showed her the email and when she found it on the computer, she told us we would only have the double bed room for the first night and the other 2 nights we would be back in the 1 king size room. We asked her why it wasn’t for the full stay and said she didn’t have availability for the other 2 nights. But my email was for the 3 nights in a double room which is what we wanted and were told on the phone with the agent from booking.com and that the hotel accepted the change with booking.com. If the hotel didn’t have availability than why would they have accepted the change with booking.com. She proceeded to tell us she couldn’t help us and if we would have known that from the get go we wouldn’t have spent over an hour to try and switch it. We will definitely not be back to this hotel as it wasn’t cheap to stay and with the staff(Felicia) treating us like she did we will find elsewhere...
