So this hotel has some age, the elevators don't always cooperate, my husband was able to navigate the bypass to make them work, they do need updates.. We rented a suite on the 4th floor, our room was great, other than the fact that the tub does not hold water so our kids had to take showers (not the worst thing). but if I had a younger kid that could not navigate this issue it would be a problem..shampoo, conditioner body wash and lotion we're all very watered down and funked up our hair, was very weird so we opted to go to Safeway and get travel sized bottles. Our couch was broken, which we didn't care since we didn't spend a lot of time at the hotel.( They did offer us a new room which we turned down). The couch is rock hard and not meant for short folk like me. Garbage cans are tiny so they fill up really quick. I felt guilty...
Beds were clean and comfortable however some pillows are lumpy.
Front desk staff are great and are super friendly and helpful. Security is responsive and very attentive to parking lots and all floors. And maintenance takes care of the lot and building as fast as they can.
That being said, the breakfast here is absolutely atrocious.. since we have a suite we make our own breakfast. Eggs are gritty, bacon is inedible and overcooked, hash browns are soft in middle but inedible on sides.. we gave up day 3 of our 10 day stay and started making our own food from store. Prepare to go to McDonald's across the way or bring your own supplies.
I will say the floors in our room was not mopped or clean when we got in, they do not check under cushions..as I found dried ramen and a kids Halloween necklace under the cushion of the chair in the room.
The air conditioner filters were not cleaned either. (Only investigated because my and my kids asthma went crazy.)
Suite kitchens are great, upgraded sink and cabinets, large fridge with freezer, they give you a hot plate, toaster oven, utensils, pans, and dishes (bring a wine opener).
space in the suites are fantastic other than the bathroom, for bigger ladies like myself, it's hard to navigate the door, tub and toilet. You can't have a towel on the floor after a shower and open the door without it getting jammed under the door. The vent in our bathroom didn't work so humidity was a massive issue (it will eventually lead to mold), shower also creaked standing in it which was spooky. The tile floors are INCREDIBLY slippery... Can be very dangerous dry or wet.. wearing socks is super dangerous on the bathroom floor. Bathroom counters were very nice, large mirror and has a hair dryer. Water pressure and temp never changed and was wonderful.
Bed base is metal so they creak when you sit on the edge of the beds. But our beds were super comfortable. And the blankets were lovely.
This place is very pet friendly (you do pay a few per usual), they allowed dogs of all sizes, even allowed our parakeets to stay here.
Furniture is quite outdated but to be honest we've been here long enough to know they are doing upgrades and improvements daily. We even witnessed pressure washing and repainting.
Free laundry (limited space) and also a fitness room. Forget the pool if it's off season other than summer) it will be closed and it's outdoor.
I have hope for this place. I think they're doing what they can right now. I do believe they will improve.
That being said this place is in prime location for many things and completely walkable.
Will book again. I just hope they pay a bit more attention to cleanliness: air conditioner filters, mopping floors, checking under cushions, cleaning cobwebs from light fixtures, rust in bathrooms (hinges and toilet paper holders) towels are scratchy.
Also. cable options suck, as you don't even get basic cable here or children channels like Nickelodeon.. prepare to use wifi. Bring your own entertainment. For the price of a suite, I'd hope more would be available. As of Christmas 2024, this place doesn't give a crap about your happiness or security. Security guards literally hang out in...
Read moreHotel Nexus; thank you for ruining my family vacation.
Here we go...
...my family of six (two adults, four children) stayed in a "suite" at the Hotel Nexus for 3 nights. It was advertised at $200/night.
Upon booking we were told it would be $700, but upon checking in, were charged $821.89 and another charge for $108.03, the latter being labeled as "tax".
I was informed there would be a deposit and parking fee ($11/night), but when I asked the hotel front desk to explain the charges, she couldn't. Speaking of the staff, they were disrespectful, unprofessional, and grossly under qualified to work there.
The morning staff on 7/25 was incredibly unprofessional to my wife and family as well as other guests. A couple of them were openly discussing how a female coworker was going to get "wrecked" and openly used vulgarities. Are you frigging serious? You're talking about what you're going to do to your coworker in front of my twin 5yr olds and my 9 yr old daughter? VILE.
Any time I went to the front desk they seemed clueless about anything and were unprofessional. One of the front desk workers was flossing his teeth while talking to guests on the morning of 7/27. They don't even have a proper checkout. They just tell you to drop the key cards in the box at the front desk. No courtesy. No compassion. No soul. I'm betting the staff are used to bad reviews and don't care.
The outside elevator was out of service and the only way to access your room was to walk through the lobby and go up the stairs or via the elevator (which was very slow) even though ALL the rooms are set up like a motel with the doors accessible from the outside vice a hallway setup.
The "free wifi" barely even functioned during our stay. The shower head is way too low. The outlets were loose. The A/C units barely worked and it was definitely a hot Seattle weekend. The door striker for the door lock was loose. Some random woman's razor was on the bathroom floor. It's obvious the cleaning crew didn't touch the room or did a poor job.
Everything about this booking was terrible. When I checked back a week before checking in, the pictures of the room and floor plan were missing. How convenient.
Recap: My family had trouble staying cool, was exhausted from all the walking (poor access layout), the parking was super sketchy (including wandering vagrants even though there was a security guard that walked around doing absolutely nothing), trash was never collected from outside our room, the room was gross, the pullout bed is a joke (not even a mattress), the price is ridiculous, the service is poor/disrespectful, and I don't think anyone would miss the motel if it was demolished. The Hotel Nexus ruined my family vacation.
As someone who is a military veteran that has extensively traveled and previously worked as a travel clerk, this place is appalling.
For the price, the shoddy service, and the horrid rooms and hotel setup, this booking was not worth it. I will be telling all family, friends, and co-workers to avoid the "Hotel" Nexus like the plague.
AVOID. AVOID. AVOID.
I will be having my bank investigate the charges because I do firmly believe I was price gouged/scammed. This entire experience was unacceptable. It's just a seedy motel trying to pass as a luxury...
Read moreWe chose this hostelry because my husband had an emergency at a local hospital, and we live too far away to go home and come back for the surgery, scheduled for the following day. The hospital provided a list of several hotels which would offer a discount to patients and also offered free shuttle service to various local hospitals. So far. so good.|Seventy years ago, when I was a child and our family took car trips, the Best Western name was one to be avoided. They bought up old properties and didn't do much to improve them. It looks like this is pretty much what happened here. Their "Signature Collection", which you would be led to believe is a step up, is a throwback to the old days of rescuing an old motel and not doing a whole lot to improve it. Here is how the Best Western website describes it:" Every destination is daring and surprising. We exhibit creativity and locality in every space. BW Signature Collection properties are eclectic with a worldly embrace for the joy of experiences." That is a big helping of marketing spin.|They did spiff up the lobby and had a nice breakfast room, and the exterior signage makes it look pretty grand.but our room was kind of pathetic. Here are a few things we felt were not up to snuff:|The room had bare floors, which I guess are a thing now, being easier to clean, but it sure makes a room cold-feeling. The closet was about seven feet long with two bi-fold doors and had 3 hangers. It was designated as an ADA room, but the only discernible ADA feature was a wide door into the bathroom (which was roomy). The bathtub was "original equipment", chipped and dirty, and to boot the side of the tub was at least 20" high. How is that ADA compliant? A guest with any kind of a lower body issue would never be able to get in and out of it. In the lobby, I overheard two guest complaining about moldy towels. |There were four pillows on the bed. None was what I would call acceptable. They were as if someone had taken a couple of old bath towels and put a pillow case on them.|We travel with a service dog, and the "Pet Relief Area" was a small spot off to the side of the parking lot only about 3 feet square and had a surface of rocks. There was a bag dispenser and trash can, though.|TV channels were very limited, considering the size of Seattle. |The list of amenities on the web site does not exactly lie, but it lists a golf course! And it is crammed into a narrow property behind a restaurant on a very busy north Seattle street. Sirens serenaded us all night. Needless to say, the rooms lacked any kind of soundproofing.|Since our retirement, we travel quite a bit, and if available, I always book a Best Western property. Since their improvement campaign several years ago, they have been a dependable and reliable place to stay. We were frankly shocked at this Signature branding. I will say, probably to cover their bets, nowhere is the name Best Western anywhere on the property. We will avoid the Signature Collection of hotels...
