Great donuts, but more often than not I end up settling for the ones at the 711 next door because they have closed by the time i get their. Sometimes as early as 9am. Apparently they "run out" of donuts which doesn't make any sense. Their are a couple other donut shops a little less than a mile away, one small private owned one and Krispy kream (which I don't like) but neither of them run out. Sure at the smaller shop a the selection gets smaller as the day goes on but they get a decent amount of customers and they stay open well into the night. If you run out of products, doesn't it make sense to make more the next day so you can stay open until your posted hours? If for some reason you are not able to do that than it would be great if you changed your hours posted on your shop and the internet because I've never seen you stay open until 3pm or even close to it. Its unfortunate because I really like your donuts, but I usually don't get up untill 11am so I never get...
Read moreThere are dozens of donut shops in the Pacific Northwest that will sell you an artisanal breakfast-cereal-and-dark-chocolate-maple-bar, and there are a hundred franchise donut shops who will sell you a moderately warm cake donut. Family Donut is neither of those. Every morning they make a full case of standard, regular donuts, like maple bars and old-fashions, jelly donuts and apple fritters. And they do sell out, almost every day of the week.
You have been misled by society. You do not need a peanut-butter-and-truffle-five-layer-mudslide donut. What you need is the platonic ideal of a chocolate old-fashioned. Get here early....
Read moreOne way to compare donut shops is to try the simple, plain glazed donut. The plain glazed is the cornerstone of a donut shop's repertoire: if they can't nail that one, how can you trust them to make anything else well?
Family Donut Shop makes the best glazed donuts in Seattle. They're light and airy, with a little bit of crispness in the crust. They're sweet (obviously), but less saccharine than a Krispy Kreme. They're less doughy than Top Pot, but they have just the right amount of chew. Nearly perfect.
I've been there probably fifty times and never had either a bad donut or bad service. The prices are just over half of what Top Pot charges, and the quality is better.
The only thing I can say against this place is that they sell out pretty quickly. If you show up after 11am, your selection is going to be...
