We stayed here last week for 4 nights (6/18 - 6/22) and really enjoyed our stay. We stayed here specifically because they have EV Car Charges onsite. I'll give a rundown on the chargers at the end of the review. Here's my Pros and Cons list:
Pros: -Good location on the way into N Cascades National Park -Both covered & uncovered EV car charging spots -Very new and clean as I believe the hotel opened just this year -Great breakfast! New selections each morning, well stocked, and absolutely better than most hotels I've stayed at lately -Filtered water dispenser in the fitness room -Kitchenette's in every room (I think) -Our room (#320) had plenty of storage space -Our bed was comfortable, as was the couch in our room -Friendly and attentive staff
Cons: -Although brand new, our room (#320) still had a few issues including; the sink garbage disposal was inoperative and the bathroom vent fan didn't respond to the wall switch, so it was on constantly -The blackout curtains didn't do the best job of keeping the morning light out -Each room has a mini-split ductless AC/Heater unit high up on the wall that works great, but we had to cover the temp display at night because it was so bright. We had to do the same thing with the microwave display -The dishwasher in the room is VERY loud, so I'd recommend only turning it on right before you leave -The lobby breakfast area is super small, so be prepared to take your food back to your room -Just one elevator, so be prepared to use the stairs
EV Car Chargers: -There's a total of 6 chargers in the hotel parking lot. These are "Blink" brand J-1772 level II chargers. There are 4 in uncovered spaces at the back of the hotel as well as 2 in covered spaces, however, one of the covered spaces is a handicap spot. It may be possible to stretch the cord from the handicap spot, but luckily we never had to try that -Blink is a pain. You have to download their app to charge your car, and they make you preload $20 in your account over and over -Blink typically charges an idle fee but it was not displayed on the units or on Blinks App, even though Blink says it "should" be displayed. This meant a lot of waking up in the middle of the night to unplug and move my car as I didn't want to get an extra $4 an hour idle charge -Hotel front desk didn't mention "EV Only" charging spots during check in, or really give any instructions/guidance at all -I noted that at least 5 different gas vehicles were parked in the EV only spots during our stay. I can see this definitely becoming an issue if the hotel is full. Luckily, we were always able to find an open spot, but you may have to contact the front desk and have them call a vehicles owner to...
Read moreThe Kulshan Hotel in Sedro-Woolley, WA, is one of the cleanest and most impressive budget-friendly hotels I've come across. My family and I spent ten days in a Family Suite that included two queen-size beds, a kitchenette with a full-size refrigerator, a spacious sink, and a dishwasher, along with a cozy dining area. The queen beds were incredibly comfortable, making it feel like I was sleeping on clouds, and the white bedding contributed to the suite's overall cleanliness. There was even a charming desk for work. The bathroom featured modern fixtures and decor, including a sliding barn door with extra shelving beside it and a roomy walk-in shower stocked with pleasant-smelling toiletries. A large circular mirror with excellent lighting adorned the vanity. The staff were wonderful and made sure our stay was enjoyable. The complimentary breakfast, served from 7 AM to 10 AM, changed daily, which was a nice bonus. The hotel also has a gym and a laundry facility, adding to the overall experience. Moreover, there's a small shop in the lobby for forgotten items like laundry soap and snacks. The pet-friendly policy was a significant advantage for me, along with the hotel’s convenient location near various shops and fast-food restaurants, all within walking distance, including a nearby high school attended by my daughters.
For guests with electric vehicles, the hotel has several fast charging stations available.
On the downside, I did notice a lack of a designated grassy area for dogs, though there was a spot for them to relieve themselves, and doggy bags were provided for cleanup. The kitchenette's new touch-screen stove burners could use instructions since I wasn’t familiar with them; adding stove guards might help to prevent accidents. The walls were somewhat thin, and the bathroom door lock malfunctioned during my stay. There were also loose plugs when I had devices connected, and the desk lamp did not work; additionally, there was an unrelated switch in the kitchenette that didn’t control anything. The staff was very responsive to my reports about these issues. I would choose to stay here again and highly recommend it to everyone, especially because of its affordability pet-friendly, and location, which were major factors in...
