Very clean, comfy, friendly, safe!
Huge flat screen TV with 200+ channels, WiFi, microwave, coffee maker, mini fridge, and free continental breakfast in the themed nostalgic lobby. The rooms are themed too. I stayed room 6, the waterfall room, with a huge, clean handicapped equipped bathroom.
The town itself is a bonus, world renowned for being part of the original route 66. Great place to stop and shop or just rest and feel good. I wasn't aiming for that when I arrived late at night (was looking for safety and a good night's sleep) but I'm so glad I did. I now recommend anyone driving in that area stay at the Canyon Lodge and visit the town.
Prices are only about $10 more than a motel six (where I usually choose to stay for cleanliness). But this place was super clean. I use to be in the hospitality industry, started as a housekeeper, so I know how hard it is and what shortcuts most will take (and shouldn't).
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for many reasons, including cleanliness and how safe I felt...
I mention safe again because as I was chosing a town and motel to stop for the night (traveling cross country) I discovered all towns on or adjacent to I-40, heading westbound (and north in CA), for the next 6 to 7 hours were high crime areas (Needles, Barstow, Bakersfield, etc.). The same when driving east for at least 2 hours (Flagstaff, etc.). Seligman has a very low crime rate and even though it's a small town it has more than one law enforcement station. I felt very safe in the entire town and in the Canyon Lodge Motel.
My only complaints for this motel are the same I have with all motels/hotels, even the most expensive: the bed was too high and bouncy, the pillows too fluffy. But I know most guests love that so I don't take off stars for it.
Also note; I did not see a phone in the room and there is no wakeup call service. But since most travelers have a cell phone, that should not be a problem. And, there is an alarm clock and USB charging station on the night stand.
The toilet paoer was like sandpaper but I expect bad tp everywhere. And sandpaper is better than what you usually get everywhere else, which is too thin and dissolves in your fingers upon use. Not theirs. No problem with dissolving.
The only reason I even noticed the rough texture of the TP was I had an allergy sneezing fit in the middle of the night and there were no facial tissues (common at all motels these days). But again, this is normal for motels these days, probably due in part to covid, so I usually bring my own TP and facial tissues when I leave home. But I was too tired to go back out to my car that night. I only mention it so potential guests can be prepared...
So, BYOB cell phone, TP, and facial tissues. And if you're a very picky traveler that hates fluff (like I do), bring your own pillow. THIS IS MY ADVICE FOR ALL MOTELS, NOT JUST THIS ONE.
Lastly, if your room is clean and properly stocked, no matter where you stay, please tip the housekeeper. I promise you the job is one most of us would never want. it's very hard on the back and it is icky. And if we travelers keep housekeepers happy with cash gratitude, those housekeepers will remain in thier jobs doing a great job for our next visit and our friend's visits. Good housekeepers...
Read moreI decided hubby and I would stay in Seligman, as my daughter had been to it the year before, on a bus tour stop, on the way to the G. Canyon. The town sounded like what I would enjoy, as I'm a lover of Rte 66 nostalgia/items!! I booked this hotel about 6 mos ahead. Hubby and I usually stay in chain hotels, but this town has all mom and pop motels/hotels, which adds to the quaintness and history of those types of motels along Rte 66, back in the day. We arrived here just after supper hour, and when checking in, the manager was very pleasant and chatty (which I had read about when looking at reviews), and he talked to us for about 20 mins, explaining what was still open in town, and how he ended-up coming and staying for good in Seligman! Hubby was impressed with his talking skills, and said he had never met any front desk service person who had given so much info! I booked this place, as it was or was one of the least expensive in town, and offered a free continental breakfast. He handed us our room key/fob, the old-fashioned type, with the colourful plastic part and metal key, and he told us we had the King's room... the Elvis Room, which I was happy about, as I had read about all the themes ahead of time, and hubby and I had recently watched the Elvis movie at home. The room was full of pictures, signs, and framed records all to do with Elvis. Thr room was an alright size, with a king bed in it, large tv screen on wall, and a refrigerator over in another area. The bathroom was small, but it didn't matter as we were just spending one night there. The room was quiet at night, as I think we were the only people staying there, being low season of winter, We didn't hear any trains going by at night, which others had said were noisy, blaring their horns...nope! In the morning, hubby said he had the best sleep of anywhere on our whole trip (just over 2 weeks at that point), and he liked the large, numerous pillows! Continental breakfast was just so-so for us, as we are used to the hot offerings and more at the chain hotels we usually stay at. I'm not fond of the wrapped, too doughy, muffins and other pastries. But, the manager doesn't have anybody else there to make hot foods. It sufficed until we could eat lunch in Vegas. Before we left town, we got to visit some souvenir shops. I enjoyed the hotel stay and seeing some of the shops, but hubby wasn't on the same page. Before we had arrived in Seligman, coming along the highway from the east, I pointed out the small town/buildings in the distance, and mentioned to hubby that, that was the town coming up. He thought I was joking, and as we got closer, he couldn't believe I had booked anywhere in the town...he almost died! He just felt it was all...
