I recently came from Cape Cod with two other women for a special conference. We stayed in what the Blooming Inn called called the apartment since it advertised separate sleeping areas for each of us.
It was not actually attached to the Inn, but rather the bottom floor of another house across the street , with a full-time renter upstairs! We never got to see the inside of the antique Victorian shown in the pictures. And the Inn itself was in much rougher than the pictures online conveyed.
When we arrived, there was no one to greet us and there was no one to call in case we needed something. We were given a code with which to open the door. The "apartment" smelled faintly of stale smoke that seems to have been embedded into the fabric of the curtains and the furniture. There were two bedrooms, one room had twin beds and the other had a queen-size bed . The third sleeping area was a pull-out couch in the living room and a fourth sleeping area was an old closed in porch area with no door, with an uncomfortable looking futon. No one wanted to sleep out there and no one wanted to sleep in the living room on a pull-out, so two of us shared the room with the twin beds and our cohort took the other bedroom. The twin mattresses were very bouncy and old and the queen size bed was hard.
The bathrooms were both very tiny, one being smack in the middle of the living and dining rooms, added into a small space that used to be a part of the dining area. and also served as the storage area for the cleaning products! Not a bit private! Bathroom linens were a mix-and-match deal with clean but truly dated towels and wash cloths.
What was once a quaint little, early 20th century home, somehow had all of its charms stripped away, leaving the most basic of accomodations.. It was clean, except for the smell of the smoke, but the only outstanding features were the colored dinnerware collection in a locked cabinet and the phonograph, with a selection of 33's, We did enjoy listening to some music.
There was a coffee maker and some coffee and tea, but no breakfast was offered either in the apartment, or inside the Inn itself. When we went to check out in the morning, we walked across the street, and knocked on the door. No one ever answered. We never saw a single human!
I would have to say that this was a very poor B&B experience. Very...
Read moreGreat experience. I was only fortunate enough to stay one night. I have nothing bad to say at all. I grew up in the area and knew what to expect from Shelburne. I decided to stay away from a hotel and stay in a guest house, and chose The Blooming Inn because I just love old homes. I expected to see old, experienced, wide plank floors, Victorian style seating, antique deco, eclectic design, and warmth. That is exactly what it was. Just a great, beautiful old home. The owners were able to create the feel of being in an English guest house, while also preserving the New England, Victorian feel. Yes, there may be a couple slightly loose doorknobs. Maybe the floors creak a little. It’s an antique home. If quiet, cozy, antique guest houses interest you. Stay here.
Communication with Richard was great. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to meet him. I arrived very late and left early. When I got up, I made a pot of coffee (plenty of coffee and tea choices, as well as bread and English muffins) and relaxed in the living room for a while admiring the workmanship and old furnishings, like the old player piano. (Doesn’t work, but it’s Pretty cool).
Parking is right next to the house, or there is a public parking lot just a few steps up the street.
All in all, this is a great value, in a comfortable,...
Read moreIf you like the Victorian vibe, which I did this is your place. Rooms are small bedrooms and there are not any places to place your items. I could not even place my laptop on a table. I did not mind that as it is a victorian home. The comfort was most terrible. There were 2 high backed upolstered chairs that when you sat in them your bottom sunk way in. The bed was the worst. I went to bed at 10PM and woke at 12:30 AM and emailed Richard immediatly "I am sorry but this is the most miserable night I have experienced. The bedding is positively awful. " I spent the rest of the night on that chair and from total exhaustion at 3:30 AM, I went back in that bed and slept another 2 hours. I was done after that. We exchanged emails and I offered the suggestion that he sleep in that bed with another with the same pillows to understand. I wonder if he did?
I spoke with 2 others in the AM over coffee and there were complaints about their nights sleep as well.
I was compted $75.00 the next day. But I could not stay another night as there was NO WAY we could sleep in that bed another moment. I left the next morning even though it was paid for. He would not refund me any more. That's ok.
I do not know what to say. It was the Rose Room. I vote no to stay at this...
