I’m no stranger to quirky hotels, but the Best Western in Shoreview takes "quirky" to a new level.
Let’s start with check-in—an experience that can only be described as a brutal dumpster fire. Now, I’m not one to rush, but when I tell the front desk clerk my email is first.last@soandso.org, and she starts typing out f-i-r-s-t, I could practically hear my patience evaporating into the Minnesota air. By the time she finished spelling and then explaining the entire floor plan of the hotel—down to every emergency exit and ice machine—I was ready to set myself on fire.
And when I thought we’d finally get through it, she ran through the same spiel with John. I had to walk away from the front desk for fear I’d lose what was left of my sanity. Nearly had me reconsidering starting smoking again just for an excuse to step outside and cool off.
The suite itself? Decent. It was clean, spacious, and soundproofed, which was nice, but there was this faint je ne sais quoi in the air—oh wait, that’s it, a whisper of urine lingering in the background like a bad Tinder date you can’t shake.
The pool area had promise but was marred by this hardened pea rock floor. I swear it was designed to slowly erode the souls of your feet—unless you’re some hot coal walker in your free time. I’ve had smoother runs across a gravel road barefoot.
But nothing says “Minnesota” quite like how every conversation sounds like an audition for Fargo. Everyone from the front desk to the breakfast attendant had that unmistakable accent. "Oh ya, you betcha!" If you’re into Minnesota stereotypes, this is your place. Frances McDormand would’ve felt right at home.
On the upside, the hot tub was hot, and once we survived the check-in and evaded the urge to take up smoking again, the stay wasn’t half bad. I’d give it three stars—for effort, charm, and unintentional comedy. Just pack some extra patience if you...
Read moreAs a real estate professional for over 25 years, I have worked with many people that are in transition and need a little help. I was working with a family that was going through just the situation and the circumstances could not be worse. The whole team, Josh, Helen, Andi, Alivia & Kyle were absolutely a dream to work with! A well oiled team working seamlessly to help those they serve. They created a safe, welcoming, clean environment for this family to get back up on their feet. The rooms were spotless, The variety of items served at breakfast met all of the families needs, the coffee bar was a fun addition for grandma, the games to check out and the pool which was clean and a fun diversion for the little girl, and most of all … all of the team members were kind and caring as this family worked through their struggles. Not only did the team meet the basic needs, but they went above and beyond the call of duty providing unbeatable service!! All the actions of this team shows that humanity still cares about each other… Good for all of you! Thank you for not only taking care of this family for me but all of the other families and individuals that stay under your welcoming roof. The pride of your career shows in each and every action. From the bottom of my heart, thank you! If you are seeking a welcoming environment to stay…...
Read moreThe cust service staff for this BW hotel, both the reps who make reservations at some remote office and the ones at the front desk need to put guests first and honor advance reservations with special rates. We made an advanced reservation on 05/16 over the phone and used my debit card and got a confirmation email but when I arrived on 05/21 late at night I was told it had been canceled by another front desk person the day before as she had tried to run the card and it got declined, and the reason was debit cards can't be used to make advanced reservations as the bank will reject the payment if card is charged later on. The rep on the phone never mentioned this when I made the reservation so I had to mk a new reserv that night and the ladies at the front desk said the rate was going to be the same, but when we checked out 2 days later I noticed I was charged more for the room. Called their main offic and spoke with rep Sean who said they'd email the hotel mgr Mary K and the hotel would reach back out to us. It's been over a week and haven't heard back from them. Hotel is clean, plenty of towels and Pool/Gym area are well maintained but breakfast is no good. My advise is call and double check a few days bfore to make sure they havent canceled your reservation bfore you arrive...
