My husband and I stayed at The Landsby for spring break this week. We just got back and it was a wonderful stay, though there were a few things that could be better. First off, Kyler was absolutely wonderful. When we first checked in, he helped us with all of our bags (and we had many little bags and two large bags, instruments, a humidifier, and many other items), and even carried my husband's guitar on his back and held the keyboard in his hands while he pushed the cart full of luggage up to our room. He was absolutely amazing from the moment we checked in to the moment we left. Upon arriving in our Deluxe Room with King Bed (room 26), I immediately took pictures while I toured the room. Although smaller than I imagined, it was a good size for our three night, four day stay there. The room was clean, the bed was immaculately made everyday by house keeping. There was a tray of snacks and wine on the counter. The room had a desk which was perfect for my husband to sit and play music, type on his laptop, and attend an online meeting Wednesday morning. Two plush and cozy robes hung in the closet with care, which we used well during our stay. We loved the bathtub and filled it to the brim with warm/hot water every evening, though at first we couldn't figure out how to turn the water off, but did so eventually. The bed was comfortable and firm and we did not detect bed bugs anywhere. The hotel had a special 10% off Pedal and Picnic package which is better than the 10% off Spring in Solvang package deal because you get a free bottle of local Santa Barbara wine (you can choose red or white) and a picnic lunch along with an 8 hour bike rental. For the lunch, you have a choice of turkey or bacon sandwich (I recommend the turkey as the bacon sandwich was dry and had a harder to digest bread) or a garden salad. When my husband and I tried to ride the bike (they provide you with helmets and bike locks), we couldn't ride them, because my legs are too short. Even at the shortest seat setting, my short legs could not reach the pedals, so we had to forgo that free experience. We loved our stay at the centrally located Landsby. We walked everywhere in Solvang from our hotel, and one night, we crossed one street to get to the Lost Chords guitar shop and bar for a free evening concert (Wednesday - Sunday evening). That helped, because I was so drunk I could hardly walk back to the hotel. My husband did not like that the hotel had poor ventilation. The air conditioning took forever to start up and the windows would not open, making the room stuffy, especially after we both took a hot bath and the steam would fill the room and heat it up, making it uncomfortable for the both of us. Also, we didn't like how the bathroom had no ventilation either, so if we had solid waste, the bathroom was pretty much out of use for a while. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back next year in Solvang.||||We also ate at the Mad and Vin restaurant. It was a nice experience. Also want to add that the seating area in the lobby smells too strongly of perfume. One evening, my husband and I had food to go that we didn't want to eat in our room so we ate it downstairs but could not get over the overwhelming and nauseating smell of lavender perfume pervading the entire area. It made our food difficult to...
Read moreThis is a decent hotel in the heart of Solvang. It has a cozy courtyard with fireplaces and the room is spacious. But I could only give 3 stars for the unwelcoming front desk encounter and undesirable room layout.
I was treated quite differently by the front desk compared to other white guests. When it became my turn to check in, the lady at front desk ignored me and just greeted the other white lady who came after me. She only realized I was already waiting until I stepped forward but still assumed I wasn’t a guest by asking me “do you need help”.
After I told her I needed to check in, she apparently was such in a rush to help the white lady behind me that she just gave me a form to fill without explaining what it is nor giving me a pen, and then just switched over to help the other white lady.
After I finished the form. The front desk lady just gave me the room key along with some local guides and said I was all set. I had to ask where my room is and she just said I should just went out and turn left. Her apathy towards me was in strong contrast with the white couple she helped before me, when she was patiently explaining where their room is and even talking about local activities such as live music happening that night.
As for the room, while it is spacious, it is also rather empty because it has a huge hollow space between the bed and TV which is the size of almost half the room. Aside from the TV table on one end of the room, there are only two night stands without drawers and a small round table. Lots of our stuff had to put to the ground. I feel they should reorganize the layout to fit a sofa and...
Read moreMy husband and I waited to be seated, for quite some time and noticed the staff acknowledge our existence but look the other way. +25 minutes later a neatly groomed man and female host standing next to him looked at me, up and down, and asked, "May I help you?", instead of, "how many in you party?" My husband responded, "Table for 2, please". The male responded, "I'm sorry, but we at max capacity", I responded, "Are you? That's interesting because my husband and I have been waiting for over +25 minutes and during the time waiting, I couldn't help to take a walk around and counted a total of 7 empty tables outside and here we stand being told that, "You are at full capacity?". Not only that, but at the time waiting your staff keeps making eye contact with us and walking past us as if they are hoping that we will soon grow impatient and leave." He responded, "You need to make reservations". I said, "Then why did you said, you're at "full capacity", instead of asking if we have reservations? We have not seen a single party or couple walking up ahead of us to this booth to ask to be seated. So really, how is it that you are at max capacity?" He responded, "If you don't have reservations, you can not be seated, and will ask you to leave." So we left. Their dining areas are very nicely decorated and it was absolutely fitting for only beautiful blondes and the the white skin race. I was also not told over the phone ahead of time that it was mandatory to make reservations to dine in...
