I love Royal Copenhagen for many reasons including the friendly and helpful staff. I had some communications with the manager which were interesting. I was trying to understand why my credit card was charged for a stay last month. I did not remember having made a reservation. I had been billed as a "no-show." This had never happened to me before, so I wanted to understand what had happened. I searched but found no e-mail or other confirmation of a reservation in my records. By e-mail per our phone conversation, the manager provided a printout showing the minute that the reservation was accepted and in the same minute two "confirmation letters" were sent by the computer system. The manager explained that the confirmation letters were e-mailed to me and that the system will not e-mail them to me again for a past reservation. Despite my doubts and inability to find the e-mails, the manager reassured me: "You made the reservation because you provided all of your information." Further, the manager explained that e-mails are a courtesy (because some guests opt out) whereas "what guarantees your reservation is the credit card provided at the time of booking." Although I feel that it is unlike me to make a reservation and then forget it, I do have a busy life and I appreciate the manager's assurance that it was I who provided my credit card and other personal information. I am not sure, however, why the manager refers to me (in the last e-mail message to me) as being "in a very unfortunate situation." I can't imagine that I would have said that I am in a very unfortunate situation: my wife and I are both happy, full-time employed and in the process of buying our first home! I replied to the manager's e-mail when it was sent 10 days ago that I wasn't sure what was meant by my "very unfortunate situation," but I haven't had any further explanation. I'll just assume that it was a misperception; at the very least I hope that it was not...
Read moreBased on all the positive reviews I was very surprised to not enjoy my stay at this place. I knew it was an older hotel with older accommodations which would be fine, had things been clean, quiet, and pleasant (hotel basics).
Pros: The pastries delivered for breakfast were delicious Spacious room Super convenient location, walking distance to everything Easy parking Good customer service
Cons: Not very clean: stains on carpet, surfaces seemed unclean, old coffee left in the pot, mildew in bathroom The shower was terrible: lousy water pressure and the shower head was way too low! I'm 5'4 and it barely worked for me so anyone taller (including my boyfriend) will struggle with it Pillows were some of the worst we've ever experienced The heater was a super old wall unit with no temperature settings so when it was cold while trying to sleep we had to leave it on to warm up the room and then wake up because it got too hot so we could turn it off. So. Much. Noise. We had a corner room with nobody on either side of us, but we were on the 1st floor and could hear everything our upstairs neighbors did. Their TV, them walking around, muffled talking...and they weren't being loud. There is just zero soundproofing between floors. We were also on a street side so we could hear cars going by. We got terrible sleep both nights we were there.
Suffice to say, we were disappointed and won't be returning. I think they try, and maybe we just got a dud of a room, but it was an unpleasant stay. So much so that we almost went home a day early between that and other frustrations of the trip. We ended up staying because it was already paid for and didn't think we could...
Read more3 stars for following reasons due to 300$ plus night kind of property: 1. No microwave - its difficult to not have this item, when you charge similar to Hyatt, marriots, etc only due to the fact that you are on the main location. It's difficult to warm food for young ones when you give box breakfast. 2. Box breakfast - Expedians DO NOT get fooled when they say, they provide breakfast. It's a box packed with pre-selected items which we as a guest will select during check-in but again, without microwave, one cannot reheat. This item is just when this kind of property charge similar to branded ones. 3. NO water to drink - no bottled water nor common area to fill water which is one of essential item. So Expedians who are with children, plz make sure you have arrangements for water. When I cross checked, hotel staff said, tap water, but there was no kitchen in my room , it was bathroom sink only, and I was NOT comfortable in filling in the water from bathroom sink. 4. No shower cap - ONLY available on request. 5. Limited toiletries - no toothpaste and no brush - may be available on request but we did not check. Overall - when one pays 300$ plus for one night, majority of items should be available. One can argue that we went during peak season i.e. 2nd week of Oct 2024, but off season prices are still $ 200 plus based on my research for property, but still, in my opinion, any general hotel who charges equal rates when compared to named brands, then they should maintain that sort of service, which should include, water bottle or a common place to fill in water, additional toiletries (not on demand but inside the room), microwave and fresh cooked...
