Wildwood Inn — Hotel in Sonora

We had stayed at The Wildwood Inn in April of 2023 and the room was great. We came back July 7, 2024 and it was a completely different experience. First, the room was filthy. The beds had black “dirt” or bug droppings, I couldn’t tell what they were, but it was very disgusting and made me not want to sleep in the beds. The bathroom floor was dirty. There was a missing light in Room 2. The pool wasn’t clean or maintained well. The owners are letting this place go down hill. A woman named “Praise” is overworked managing this place and a place across the street. She said cleaning staff quits too often. We checked out early on 7/9/24 when we were planning to stay until Friday. I just couldn’t take the filth. They do have a fridge and microwave in Room 2. The toilet runs too loudly. We won’t be back. I booked and paid for a full cancellation refund option. The hotel policy indicated 48h notice. I emailed the hotel to cancel with more than 48h notice. They contacted me stating that I was in the 48h window (I have it in writing) but that I had to call booking.com to cancel. I had booked on the hotel’s website, never on booking.com. it turns out that the hotel outsources its reservations to booking.com. Here is the outrageous part: booking.com has a 3 day cancellation policy, so inconsistent with the hotel’s. As a result, they charged me a $170 cancellation feel! I asked the hotel several times to fix this as this is inconsistent with their own policy and they are not responding to my emails, they are ignoring my follow ups. Would have been 5 stars, however was promised by horwl staff that hot tub would be open until midnight. When at 10 pm tried to get in was rold by very rude and nasty man at desk thay it was closed doe my safety. Although my safety was not explained. I am a 100 percent diaabled veteran I really really needed the hot tub after a long drive and sitting at a comedy concert for 2 hours. Though i tried to explain this I was totally ignored bu this rude man. He really shoukd not be in the customer service industry. I would love to stay here again if it weren't for this man. Everyone else I dealt with is why I am giving it 5 stars. I am 60 years old so i can't understand why he thought I was going to throw a wild hot tub party but that is thr impression I got from him.
