The Owners had to be reminded to send me a confirmation...but then when I arrived a couploe of weeks later, around 6 p.m., no one was there. The hosts were in Florida. Only a printed note taped to the door with a key and instructions on which room to occupy. When I returned around 9 pm, still no one there. Owner's daughter arrived a few minutes later. The room was OK, but the entire house was badly in need of maintenance, paint peeling on rotting barn door, cracking, peeling paint on bathroom door (and dirt caked in the panels). Plastic flowers in the outside flower boxes, and a 1940's era woman's beauty salon hair dryer as you came into the house, etc., etc. When I didn't find a shower in the bathroom, it was pointed out that it was behind the door, and turned out to be even more narrow than the door. I doubt I could have turned around in it. The blanket was an inexpensive piece of plastic fleece.|||| At 5:45 a.m. the next morning a banging noise started, waking me up, and did not stop for the rest of my stay. (It turned out to be a squirrel trying to get into the bird feeder.) ||||Another printed notice in the room announced one specific time for a hot breakfast....too early for me to make it. Instead the "continental breakfast" consisted of unripe grocery store strawberries and a soft roll in the shape of a croissant along with reconstituted OJ and tea. The final straw came when it was announced I had to pay with cash, and I did not have enough, and the amount I was billed was more than the web site quoted. All in all, I think this is the worst B&B I have ever stayed at after many years of frequent travel. The only reason I can think of for anyone giving it even a passing review is that they might not want to offend the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is the second time the love of my life and I stayed here. I never wanted to leave. The house and the grounds are gorgeous and ooze charm from every angle. The landscaping is beautiful and it feels as if you've stepped into a perfect little slice of heaven. Our hosts made us feel very welcome, and were super friendly and cared about making our stay the best it could be. They struck the perfect balance between letting us have our space and checking in on us to make sure we had what we needed. The room was wonderful, the bed was comfortable, and the views from our windows were of lovely greenery and of a charming rustic barn/shed that I probably could have looked at all day-- like a painting made real. The dining area, the patio, yard, and sitting common rooms made me wish I had more time during my stay to linger in all of them. Stay here if you can! The walk into town wasn't bad at all, and we decided not to drive at all while we were there. Only the first 1/8 of a mile or so (maybe less) is without sidewalk and there's a wide grassy shoulder to safely walk on until you get to the sidewalk itself. The "Mews" was only about a 5 minute walk and they served food until around midnight. We walked to The Contemporary Theater Company in town every day and it was maybe 15 minutes or less on foot to the center of town with all the restaurants and shops. I can't wait to visit again! I regret that I didn't take any photos of our room except for one silly shot of the puppets we use...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreB&Bs attract a certain kind of people. We B&B people are looking for an experience rather than just a place to lay our heads. We are looking for slow mornings with conversation that opens us up to each other, food and activity recommendations a bit off the beaten path which convey and capture the true essence of an area, comfort and coziness that is different yet warm and familiar and we are looking for proprietors who operate their B&Bs like home, with heart.||We found all of these things and much more during our recent stay at Sugar Loaf Hill B&B. Dave and Stephanie were fantastic hosts and we could not have been happier with our choice of B&B. Our accommodations were very comfortable and clean, breakfast was always very tasty and the company of our hosts and the other guests was delightful. After the first day, it really felt as if we were staying with friends. Dave and Stephanie really took the time to find out what we were interested in doing in the area and offered a lot of great suggestions for activities and dining options. ||The location of the B&B was perfect! Within walking distance of restaurants, bars, shops and a bike rental place but with a real feel of being out in the country. Narragansett is a short bike ride away. Convenient to Newport without being in the hustle and bustle of the city. ||Dave and Stephanie truly made our first visit to Rhode Island a...
