So everything is top notch here. In France it would be just another bakery at best but in SC RI it’s amazing. The croissant is one of the hardest most time consuming baked goods to pull off and these are legit with airy, flakey, buttery crust. The danish with fresh fruit are next level and will make your head spin. Seriously great stuff here. So why only 1 star? You probably already know if you’ve been. I can either enjoy baked goods from SC Bread Company or send my kid to college. $20 with tip (like you really have an option not to tip) for 2 danish no coffee. $15 for 2 croissant. Buying for a family or event? fuhgettaboutit your credit card might melt. I know everything is more expensive now and rent I’m sure is astronomical but this is just pushing it a little too far. You won’t get many complaints about price because most who shop here don’t need to look at price tags but just dial it back 10% across the board and make it accessible to more people but if you are low income don’t bother even walking...
Read moreI would rate this bakery higher for effort but they are clearly having difficulties in their new location. The smells in this small store front on Main St. are wonderful wafting from their onsite ovens. Unfortunately, they seem to be having trouble keeping up with demand as their pastry and bread selection are often limited or missing only 1 hour after their opening hours. The staff also seems to have difficulty in identifying their product as purchases for a sour dough baguette was not identifiably sour dough and the same for a sour dough boule when it came home. The scones are very dry and have a paucity of fruit. The crusts on the breads are crisp and good. They do not give receipts and requested text receipts were not received. Some of the older staff are just plain rude. One hopes that eventually this bakery will find its way and function in a more customer pleasing and efficient way. ...
Read moreIf you love bread with a crunchy crust drop everything and run here! I like the bread too much. My wallet aches every time I leave. I usually order soon much bread. I would worry that it goes bad, but my children (and I, along with them) eat so much of it. We are usually surprised when we've eaten 3 loaves in 2 days.
Oh, but if you don't eat bread nearly as fast as my family, then the loaves do freeze well. They also have delicious pastries. Today I had a vegan chocolate croissant that tasted so good, my stomach was worried that butter was coming. (I'm pretty lactose intolerant.)
I really could go on and on about them. We fell in love when they were using Kingston Pizza at URI as their test kitchen. They have now moved to main street, so a little more of a drive for me, but I'm sure I'll be making the trek...
