Food was good but service was horrendous. Ordered by phone at 5:35 told it would be ready in 20 minutes. Arrived at 6:05 paid and included 20% tip. Told it would be ready in a couple of minutes. Waited, asked how long, waited, asked how long, waited and asked a third time. The answer each time was a couple of minutes. She was very dismissive each time and seemed annoyed. Finally at 6:40 we were more forceful and asked for a forth time. Finally she realized that they messed up and never put the order in. It was our first and last experience there. She apologized and said hopefully they could make it up next time. What next time? They should have offered up free chips and salsa or something - anything. I worked in food service and we always tried to resolve an issue before the customer left. The food was good, but not worth waiting 50 minutes in the small space. It doesn’t matter how good the food is if the service is terrible. I love supporting small business but this one is...

Excellent fish tacos! I came here on a Thursday, there is a taco special (3 for $15), excluding the fish and shrimp tacos. So, I ordered 2 birria, one chicken tinga, and one fish taco. Although the beef and chicken were of decent quality and were moist (not dried out), there was a bitter edge to the sauce of both meats. A side of consommé is usually provided with birria, in this case, even if it had been provided, it would not have made a difference. The lettuce provided with the tinga was old. I was told that the fish was Rhode Island cod; it was absolutely perfect, cooked just right and there was the right amount of asadero cheese and pico. The service here is excellent, the man in his 20s who took my order was very friendly, and the location itself is very clean. I also appreciate the sign indicating that in the interest of the environment, plastic utensils, etc. would be provided upon request only. I would definitely return here for the excellent fish tacos next time I'm...

I really want this place to do well and truly want to support local business. I tried their food for the first time and thought it was an 8/10 for quality, taste and super friendly service. South County has no Mexican fast food even close to the quality of Maiz. You can tell the owners are quality people too. I was just shocked that it cost $28.35 for 3 tacos and a Coke. Their prices are higher than tacos I get in New York. I know the price of food has increased quite a bit and it’s tougher to be profitable in the food business these days but it’s tacos. Tacos don’t cost that much to make and usually 2 or 3 come with an order. $8.50 for 1 taco is crazy. If they drop their price to $5 a taco there would be lines out the door and they would sell a ton of tacos. I just don’t know if the average person in Wakefield can swing paying $8.50 for a taco. I hope they make it because our area badly needs an authentic taco joint served by...

omg finally some amazing mexican food that is also in a trendy spot!!! so hard to find in rhode island. love the location near all the cute wakefield shops. this was suuuuch a generous portion of food to try and we ordered guac for our chips. and then a chicken tostada that i inhaled. and my friend got a shrimp taco. their salsa verde is unlike anything i have ever had. reminds me of a palestinian hot sauce we make in gaza and sure enough they use raw green tomatillos. and the freshness could be tasted from the smell. super kind amazing service. glad we ate in the cozy house of a restaurant. their decor is dia de los muertos meets apple farms of RI meets PSL girlie meets spooky szn it's so well tied together. my friend that i brought is from south kingstown so she's gonna bring her family and all her URI friends.

The Birria burrito ($16) was fantastic and super tasty! It was pretty large and stuffed well with plenty of beef. And I also got a pork tamale ($4.50) which was equally as good. I’m so glad that they didn’t overcook the meat in the burrito. So many places overcook it, but Maiz’s had a little pink to it making it more succulent. Something about how the cheese was melted in the burrito really took it over the top. I can’t really explain it, but it was so good. Never heard of asadero cheese before, but now I want it and everything lol. The tamale filling was so soft and had amazing flavor. I would say $4.50 for a big tamale is pretty damn good value. The girl at the front who served me was so sweet and friendly. It does feel like a small family run place.
