ZERO STARS! On 5/4/24 we drove from Michigan to a martial Arts tournament. Afterwards we went to lunch awaiting check-in time for our hotel. We were in room 203. The elevator was awful smelling every time we used it. We went to our room took a nap after a long day of driving and the tournament. We decided to step out for about an hour. Came back and as we were heading to the elevator, notice a woman with pink hair and tie dye shirt. She was poking her head out the back door talking to a guy. We didn't think much of it. In the meantime, we had a guy approach us several times asking if my guy wanted a drink, had a lighter or other unusual asks. We were needing to watch our surroundings. We went to bed fairly early since we needed to head back to Michigan in the morning. At 4am someone was trying to break into our room. Luckily (as a usual single traveler) I always make sure I use that lock on top of the door. Someone had a key to our room. We heard voices saying, someone is in there. That's why it's not opening. My guy went to the door and yelled who is it. She said this is the front desk and you're not supposed to be in here. What are you doing here? You need to open this door and identify yourself. He opened the door and she was asking him questions about who let us in, we had no right to be there because it was showing the room as empty. This was the same women with the pink hair and tie dye shirt. With a guy. Extremely fishy. I don't even remember seeing a desk clerk giving an escort to a hotel room. She said she was going down stairs to check the computer again and she may be back up. Who can go back to sleep after all that? What if the top latch wasn't in use. They would have come into the room with us sleeping. In the morning we went to breakfast before getting our stuff packed. Afterwards we went to our room and was locked out. Because the desk clerk with the pink hair gave someone our room key, so that voided ours altogether. We went back downstairs and was met by the elevator by Virginia who checked us in. She asked if we were ready to check out. I said no, because of us being woke up at 4am with someone breaking in, our key no longer works and all our stuff is in the room. She said, ok let me get another key. Pink haired girl was at the desk, doing money..stated how she can't multitask especially after the rough night she had. Did she think about the rough night she put at least 2 of her customers through?? Does she realize the anxiety of someone breaking into your hotel room that you pay for and then questioned like a criminal for being in said room. These things should not happen. We went back to the room with a new key. Upon check out my guy asked if they ever figured out what happened at 4 am and why someone was trying to come in. We got a sorry, it happens sometimes from Virginia. I would not recommend this hotel. Seems as if they have more issues than just poor judgement and customer service. I would look into the the pink haired girl and why she was taking a guy up to a...
Read moreThe staff were very friendly and accommodating, for which I am grateful, but unfortunately, that's the only thing good I have to say about this place. This was the most run down hotel I have ever stayed at. It was absolutely disgusting in every aspect from the lobby, to the elevator, to the hallway, to the room. As others have stated, there were people doing drugs in the parking lot and the entire building stunk of weed and cigarettes. Even my non-smoking room absolutely reeked and had very clearly been smoked in on many occasions. Throughout the night people people who were already drunk/high were smoking, slamming doors, screaming, and playing loud music in the hallways. The fumes from the smoking of course made it into my room which made for very poor air quality given the state my air conditioning unit was in. The building itself was filthy. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. There was dust, mold, cigarette ash, and stains all over the place. It goes without saying but this place was not compliant with Covid guidelines. My room itself was atrocious. As mentioned, my AC unit didn't work - it was leaking water which made all of the carpet very damp. It was also full of mold and dust so the air that did get through smelled awful. I had to wear shoes to walk around the room so my socks didn't get soaked with moldy water. The carpet had burn marks from cigarettes and other stains that definitely hadn't even been attempted to be removed by the staff. The sheets and pillows were also disgusting. There were stains and cigarette ash all over them and they smelled terrible. People have clearly used these sheets to put out cigarettes and the staff has never bothered to change them. One of my pillows had yellow marks all over it. The bathroom was filthy with grease, dirt, stains, dust and mold all over the bathtub. It was a white bathtub but there was more black on it than white. It literally looked like a pocadot pattern of white bathtub and black dirt. The towels had bed bugs in them. I'm glad I checked before I actually used the towel or I would have gotten them on me. There were also bugs crawling/flying around the room. All the lights were covered in mold and dust with an occasional spider web too. The combined musty smell of weed and cigarettes with mold, dirt and dust was putrid enough to make me gag any time it hit really bad. Truly I cannot find a single good thing to say about this hotel aside from the staff being friendly. Do not stay here, do yourself a favor and stay at the red roof that's...
Read moreI can’t agree more with the several comments mentioning that this place is a health violation and is in need of major renovation.
The rooms have a weird smell and are in great need of deep cleaning and renovations. Online images are highly deceptive. There were many stains (many with unidentifiable substance) on the bed covering, upholstery and walls. I saw cigarette burns on the bed coverings in a “non-smoking” room. I also saw a brown handprint on the wall.
We were going to sleep on the bed fully clothed, but couldn’t breathe comfortably with the cigarette smoke seeping in our room.
The cigarette smoke in the halls was so super thick and concentrated that it burned my eyes. Shutting the door in the room provided no relief. We even tried putting on our face masks. My stomach started to hurt from the smoke. We started feeling ill. We went outside for fresh air and began to instantly feel better. For our health, we decided to sleep in our car and just shower quickly in the morning. We were much more comfortable in the car. It was clean and we could breathe.
Not sure that all hotels in the chain are like this, but I think the condition of this spot is a representative of negligence from the manager/ownership. A hotel with this condition shouldn’t be allowed to operate until they make major changes. The owner should ask him/herself would they themselves or allow their loved ones to sleep in this type of room for a night.
Front desk representative was friendly and helpful. Comments are not to reflect poorly on the front desk representative.
We only booked this room, because other nicer hotels we checked were full.
We requested a refund with this location and got a run around.
Worst hotel I have stayed at, even within the same star range. Read the other reviews. Not sure how the overall star rating is as high as it is. Maybe there was a change in management.
I hope this message helps someone. Pay more, book early, search thoroughly for a spot at another location, or spend a night in your car. Not worth compromising your health or comfort.
