The hotel tried to scam us with unauthorized charges to our credit card. After speaking to several managers at the hotel, a front desk person let it slip that we were charged for a missing hair dryer. This was quite laughable as my husband has no hair and mine is so long I can't use a hair dryer. I assured them we did not take the hair dryer. They refunded me the original $50 American put on my card, however, this does not cover the exchange fee my credit card charges for the transaction. I see no reason for me to pay the exchange fee for a foreign transaction that never should have been put on my card to begin with. I left several messages for Tacoma BW to call me back regarding the false charges. The last manager told me it had nothing to do with her and that I would need to speak to the other manager. She once again accused me of stealing and said it was a courtesy that they reversed any charges. I inquired and asked if they had looked into the previous guest that had stayed into the room, but apparently their housekeepers don't make mistakes and she accused me again of stealing a hair dryer. Any number of hotel staff including housekeepers, maintenance, security guards/concierges and of course managers inspecting the condition of the room could have taken an item and probably not for malicious reasons; An item may have needed cleaning or repair. An item may have been improperly installed. The list is almost endless.||Obviously, I am not happy to be accused of theft. I did not take a hair dryer. It is unlawful to charge a credit card without the consumer knowing. The hotel never once tried to contact me. I wonder how many other people Best Western Tacoma have stolen from by placing false charges on credit cards?||This review puts them on notice that I will not stand for them defaming, slandering or libeling my good name. I think this hotel practices should be reviewed, as false charges are stealing. Unless there’s actual video footage of myself or someone else in my party removing property from the premises that’s not yours, they’re really out-of-line accusing you to begin with. Poor customer service, poor management and a poor hotel. I will not stay at this...
Read moreI like the Best Western chain because you know it's always going to be pretty good, sometimes very good, and every property is unique. This one was well above average and the price was $50 less than the competition across the street. Access to I-5 is fast and easy and yet the room was wonderfully quiet. The property is fresh and new (I was told 2 years old) and clean. There's ample parking, although you need to pay attention with a full-size pickup. ||If you appreciate a morning run or walk, there's immediate access to the quiet neighborhood and nearby Wapato Park. I particularly recommend crossing the Pipeline Bridge that takes you along an elevated boardwalk up in the tree canopy. ||The rooms are spacious and efficient. The AC unit is quiet. The blackout shades are the best I've seen, something I really appreciated. Somehow, I never heard the mini fridge. I particularly liked the location of the fridge-microwave-coffee cove.|And the staff are as friendly as it gets. Everyone was wonderfully helpful and they all seemed to be enjoying their jobs. I developed a rapport with one of the cleaning staff who was smiling and had a friendly reply every time I saw her.||But there could be some improvements. Staying 8 nights, I appreciated the fitness room. But it doesn't open until 7! Like many guests, I enjoy an early morning workout, but that's not possible here. I was told it was to keep it quiet for the rooms upstairs. An easy fix would be to put some acoustic tiles on the ceiling.||Breakfast was nicely thorough with all the standard fixings, and the biscuits and gravy was particularly good. And nicely done with the apples, not those bland and pulpy red delicious apples that many hotels provide. But they ran out of coffee! Four times! That was probably just as well as I tend to drink too much coffee, but this would have been a big deal for my wife. A simple fix would be to add a second hot pot of regular coffee.||Ah, but if this is all I can complain about, I'm livin' large when I'm livin' here. The next time I'm in Tacoma, my hotel search will be...
Read moreBesides the worst possible location I could have chosen, it was a great hotel. Aside from looking out our window and seeing people using drugs, or dealing them, or looking petty sketchy in general, or not able to go to the taco truck next door because it was too shady. It was a great hotel. Continental breakfast lots of delicious options, rooms were clean, and big enough for us to enjoy some space or cozy up. We didn't get to use the hottub or swimming pool (twice now we have gone on mini vacay and haven't been able to make it) but it sure would have been nice! When I called the hotel to see about getting a refund, there was a previous mixup and misunderstanding on my part, I was told unfortunately I wouldn't be able to because I didn't go thru the hotel website, and it was a 3rd party situation. But, when I accepted that we would be staying there, I felt I had more confidence in my choice, due to the fact that Alex one of the managers there was so polite and helpful with the whole thing. She answered all my questions and wasn't afraid to tell me the truth. They have on sight security 24/7 and on property I felt safe, but off property was a different story. I hope that area is going to be Cleaned up soon.. there's a homeless encampment directly across on the main road of the hotel. It just doesn't scream "stay here, you will be fine". Although like I said inside, totally different story. I loved how the staff treated us with kindness and respect, I almost felt like I was apart of the BWP family, and greeted us every time we came in or said see you later when we would leave. We were there to see family and meet the newest arrival, so it was nice to be able to go back to our hotel room after the days events. Fun fact- my husband actually poured the gypcrete for the hotel (2 of the floors I think) when they first built it. I would stay again, possibly, if the area were a lot safer for my children. Thanks for the nice stay, and the kitchen crew for the wonderful breakfast...
