This is my dining experience at the restaurant of this hotel. This was truly the worst upscale dine-in experience I've had since COVID-19. For me, a high-end restaurant experience should be divided into two aspects: the food experience and the dining experience.
However, this time's experience was a disaster. For the food we had this time, we chose one appetizer and two main courses, and the restaurant also provided a small snack platter with two biscuits, a small piece of cheese, and cornbread. The appetizer and platter tasted decent, with melted cheese on the cornbread that was a bit greasy, but it would have been enjoyable with a wine pairing. For the appetizer, we ordered 'chicken & doughnuts.' If you're Asian or have been to places like China, Singapore, etc., you might find this dish to have a cheap feeling, almost like a '肉夹馍.' This is especially true due to the texture provided by the shredded chicken. The sauce beneath the doughnuts was fresh, but because it was beneath the doughnuts, it was impossible to combine them well when eating together. Our main courses were a disaster. We received our appetizer at 5:35 PM, but we didn't see our main courses until 6:26 PM, with no server coming to check if we had received our food or needed anything during that time. By then, both neighboring tables had enjoyed their appetizers and main courses, paid their bills, and left. The miso seabass was excessively sweet, unlike any miso I've ever had, and for some reason, the original flavor of the seabass had been completely destroyed. When you take a bite, all you can taste is an expired fishy taste, with miso plus a heavy corn syrup-like flavor. The steak was average, but the plating was messy, with the steak being divided into three parts, although the toppings were the same, one had a ton of garnish, one had a little, and one had none at all. It seemed like a rushed result. Lastly, due to their mistake, they gave us a dessert to go, and it was particularly bad. I've never seen a high-end restaurant dessert with a random half strawberry, not as a garnish for another dessert but just thrown in, and the strawberry wasn't fresh, it was like a morning-sliced strawberry left indoors and eaten late at night, the texture was the same.
In terms of service, I made the reservation through OpenTable and had noted that it was my wife's 30th birthday and requested that they make appropriate arrangements. However, the host with a tattoo on her chest was extremely unprofessional and rude. When we arrived, she not only didn't welcome us but also seated us at the second-row table by the window, even though there were plenty of window seats available at that time. When I inquired about it, she not only refused to rearrange, but also made excuses, claiming it was a special reservation. However, when I was chatting with other guests when I went to the restroom, they mentioned that they hadn't made any special reservations and were puzzled as to why I was deliberately seated at the back. The only reason I made the reservation at this restaurant was because of its excellent window view. It wasn't until I spoke with a waiter that I was finally moved to a window seat. Then came the huge mistake in delivering our orders. I have worked in the hotel and restaurant industry, and it seemed to me that they had completely forgotten our table's order until 30 or 40 minutes after our appetizer, they hastily prepared our order. Otherwise, how could such a basic mistake occur? Here, I appreciate Sergio's service who deliver my message to the host manager and help us move the table, but I'm dissatisfied with our server, Chris, who didn't check our progress with our orders for an hour, and their manager, Adam's unreasonable explanation. Their explanation was that they serve whoever orders first, but this doesn't explain why both tables that came in after us had already enjoyed their main courses while we waited for another 10 minutes before seeing ours.
In summary, I wouldn't recommend anyone...
Read moreHello: I have stayed at the Buttes many times over 20 years and after my last stay will not return. Below are the reasons.
Rude staff. I requested my clean car be valet three times. Once by Shane and twice by Jeff. After not taking my request Jeff had me follow him in a buggy through the parking lots to the furthest back area. Again on vacation I don’t want to work, take my car and valet it like requested. Even as he left me at the door I asked why wouldn’t you valet my car? No response. I also didn’t receive a map of the property. This would have helped me find my parking spot alone. Unkept dangerous grounds. My husband was going to sit on a patio chair on the pool deck when it broke and the screw scratched him heavily on his side and drew blood. We asked for assistance but the boy in the towel cabana was busy on his cell phone. We dismantled the lawn chair and I alerted staff on my phone in my room along with other concerns. I asked for Pamela front of house mgr to reach out and was never contacted back by the front desk. There are several chairs by the pool that are unsafe and hazardous. 3.Room request not met: Next to the service closet, I was told I’d get a great view and be next to the pool. After speaking with Pamela about the hostess on the phone saying room by pool it was explained that’s not possible. I asked to be close to the pool as promised and was told I have a view of the pool also. My room was 2148 and the view was a giant rock next to the freeway and a service room. Employees exited the room at all hours and I was woken non stop and did not get rest. Spoiled, rotten smell: it rained Friday and Saturday as the maintenance team scurried around the foulest smell came from the service room not just like rotten eggs mixed with spoiled laundry at times we though someone died in the room next to us and lingered in the hall for hours and permeating the entire room. Maintenance apologized but you could tell they were overwhelmed by the requests. Grounds: the grounds need remodeled and fixed. The pool deck is a tattered mess peeling. The pool was freezing which I thought it was temp controlled from years past, jacuzzis are cold and each one had trash all around it for hours so we skipped it all together. The best part of the trip was our waitresses at the lobby and market cafe. Reny in the lobby bar and her front of house manager were amazing, great food service etc. for breakfast Monique was wonderful. Avoid...
Read moreMy wife and I traveled to Phoenix Marriott Resort Tempe at The Buttes to celebrate our 15-year wedding anniversary. We have four kids ranging from 18 months to a 12-year-old. This was our first trip away without any of the kids. We specifically looked for somewhere with a great spa, a nice pool, and several dining options.
The Phoenix Marriott Resort Tempe at The Buttes met and exceeded our expectations! We started with lunch at the Market Cafe with a great view of the pool and waterfall as we waited for our room to become available. We checked in early and the staff was able to get us into a room quickly.
We then relaxed at the pool for about an hour as we waited for my wife's Adobe Clay wrap appointment at the spa. I used the fitness center when she was at the spa. The fitness center was typical of other Marriott properties, but it was sufficient to get the job done. I then spent some time in the sauna in the men's locker room as I waited for my wife to finish her spa treatment.
We then had dinner and drinks at the Thirsty Cactus before spending a little more time at the pool.
The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The patio was a nice added touch, but not totally worth the "Suite Night Award" upgrade. On the other hand, with as difficult as I've seen that it is to cash in the awards, the added patio and quick access to the pools was better than having the awards expire at the end of the year.
We started the next day with a nice hike up the Buttes. Our tour guide Tom was fantastic! He was friendly, very knowledgeable and let us help drive the hike. It was truly a unique experience! We then had a good buffet breakfast at the Market Cafe before spending some more time at the pool before my wife's 80-minute hot stone massage. She said it was one of the best massages she's every had!
That night we had a delicious dinner at Top of the Rock and it's truly a spectacular view. The waiter gave us an excellent dessert with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate on the plate.
The next day we had the buffet breakfast again, which had much of the same offerings, but also some new ones. Then we did the pool and cocktails before my wife had a seaweed wrap at the spa. We ended the night with dinner and drinks at Four Peaks brewery with some old friends we hadn't seen in a while.
We had a great trip to Phoenix Marriott Resort Tempe at The Buttes and we look forward to returning in the future. We even discussed bringing the...
