It seems that the priority check in area for Elite IHG members has disappeared from IHG hotels. There was one clerk on duty at check in, I waited 30 minutes just to get my room key. It also was not prepared before my arrival, like supposed to be. Upon walking into the lobby, I noticed the tile floors were installed unevenly and already cracked and had chipped corners. The white grout used in the floors was filthy and looks horrible. Tile floor in the elevator is in the same condition. Arrived into my room to find plumbing panel cover for whirlpool tub fell off and was laying on the floor. It remained untouched in that spot until I left my room to checkout 3 days later. The nightstand had three inches of one corner knocked off and reattached with wood glue. There were stains of various unknown goo running down the wall paper near the side of the bed. The rooms have fridges, but without freezers. The TV stand and also designed to hold a microwave, but those have not been installed either. The base of the toilet and marble threshold in the bathroom had large chips. The light bulb above tub was also no working. The room entry door was mounted with more than a half inch gap at both the bottom and latch side of the door, so the hallway lighting, and all of the noise from being right next to the elevator easily entered the room. It really looks like this hotel was built quickly, cheaply, and with unskilled labor. The furniture and most other items appear to be of very low quality. There his hotel is in sorry condition for being “new”. (Opened in October 2012) The bed was the most firm that I have ever slept on, almost rock hard. The sheets were ok, but blanket was very thin, with no comforter or anything of that nature. The breakfast area is very small. People were standing all over the lobby with plates food due to lack of seating. The area in where the food was placed was crammed with people and impossible to enter, so I passed on breakfast both mornings of my stay. The hotel is in close proximity to a race track. The noise from the racecars was nearly deafening when outside. It also prevented me from sleeping until after 11pm. You would think adequate soundproofing would be installed when building a new hotel close to a racetrack. Overall pretty shady neighborhood too, so stay indoors after dusk. Nothing was offered for being a platinum IHG member, not even verbal recognition, much less an upgrade or...
Read moreWhen we arrived in the lobby to check-in we had caught wind that someone had thrown up in the pool area, understood these things happen. The front desk clerk said he would extend our pool time another hour because of this incident as it was already getting late like 9:15 PM, pool closes normally at 10 PM. So the kids were a bit reluctant after what they had heard, but saddled up and went to get their suits on.
We all came back down as group to enter the pool area. The second you walk into the pool area your eyes start to instantly burn, just from the fumes of the chlorine, like nothing I have ever experienced before. We pushed forward, I wasn't getting in, but the kids marched on. Within maybe 5 minutes of swimming they all start pouring out of the pool complaining about the chlorine and their eyes burning. At this point it almost seems like this could have been a dangerous situation, should we have seen the red flags and not entered the pool...we save that one for another day. At that point we leave the pool area and let our eyeballs recover as we hung out in the main lobby. Really put a damper on the evening and the pool should have been closed.
The main desk person ended up coming by asking us how we were doing. We told him about the pool situation and he said that the inspector had been in earlier! So not sure if they had a violation and needed to dump a massive amount of chemicals to fix the water situation or what...did not give the group the warm and fuzzy about it all! Besides that its just an OK hotel and a reasonable rate for our group. Would not recommend going back unless you were 100% sure the pool situation was figured out. They need ventilation in that room big time in this...
Read moreI HAVE ALREADY SUBMITTED A VERY LENGTHY AND DETAILED REVIEW FOR YOUR YOUR OWN REVIEW. During that review process, I was asked again for a review, then a third time (I think that was for publication). I’m not going through that process again to get in the same review loop. However ….
I am a Gold Elite member and have been using ihg for probably 40 yrs. Almost all (other than my previous detailed review of the property in Flint MI and this one in Charleston IN) properties are fairly standard for ihg.
Some problems and details: large fans running in the lobby because the air was out (not a pleasant experience for breakfast the next morning, so we grabbed something and left.)
Staff at front desk was very unprofessional. “Manager” was wearing black t-shirt and jeans and explained that they had started renovations because “if he (owner?) doesn’t, they (ihg?) are going to shut him down.” Nice thing to tell guests?
First room had no pressure in bathroom sink and only decaf coffee. They moved us to another room that was not cleaned very well at all, used coffee pod was still in the coffee unit, carpet was disgusting, the furniture should have been thrown out years ago and the hassock was so bad that the covering was shedding all over the floor. Mold in the caulking in the bathroom, toilet was no longer set well, it wobbled every time you sat down.
I would never ever recommend this hotel property to anyone and am now hesitant to stay in an ihg property again. We always travel with a planned itinerary, so we can’t cancel and go to another hotel without losing our money. Otherwise I would request that we could inspect the rooms...
