We stayed at a one-bedroom suite. it is spacious and quiet, but some hardware needs update. the handles of the doors are squeaking all the time, and one door cannot be closed properly. the squeaking noise is particularly loud when someone opens/closes the door in the evening. the faucet water flow is very small. The mattress is firm and comfortable, and linens clean and new. in general the room conditions are acceptable.
there is only one elevator at the far end of the building. my room is actually near the front desk, but had to haul my luggage all the way to the elevator, and then long walk along two long corridors to reach my room. had I known it earlier, I would have chosen to walk the stairs instead.
it could have been an OK stay if not for the very unpleasant experience at the Bistro on my last day. We three (my wife, my son and I) chose the package including breakfast for 2 adults and 2 kids. On the first day, when I ordered from the counter, the lady first helped order food for two adults, and then one kid, and then she asked how about the second kid. I thought that it would be enough for my son so I said no need for second kid's breakfast. but it turned out that kid's menu is only a small box of cereals with milk and a banana.
so on second day, I ordered breakfast for 2 adults and 2 kids, so my son could have one more box of cereals. (he is a big boy with good appetite), no issues at all.
then today also our last day of stay here, I ordered again for 2 adults and 2 kids, a different lady all of sudden asked me very directly and frankly in a very rude way, "why do you order for 2 kids if you only have one?". I replied that "it is written on the voucher that it is for 2 adults and 2 kids". she scoffed and said "no, only for people stay in the room". ok fine. my son did not get the second box of cereal, not a big deal. but her attitude was really very condescending and rude. instead of reminding me, if there is a such a policy, that "sorry sir, our policy is that only for total number of staying guests, not always 2 adults and 2 kids". It would be fine, totally fine. but the way she asked "why do you order for 2 kids if you only have one?", made me feel that I was trying to be greedy, and I should not be so shameless to try to game the system. :) it is not an issue of communication skills, it is an issue of attitude.
frankly, I had great relations with all the other staffs of the Bistro, for example I had a good chat with the guy who originally from Bolivia. the French fries is great. We ordered a lot of food from the Bistro during our stay and almost always left a good tip, except for the last breakfast.
My suggestion is, if you wrote 2 adults and 2 kids on the voucher, just honor it, and next time write accurately how many people staying, be it 1 adult with 2 kids, or 2 adults only. a box of cereal with a bottle of milk, and a banana is not worth so much, frankly, but the experience really left a bad taste...
Read moreI travel %95 of the year and I practically live in Hotels. I was completely dissatisfied with my experience at this particular Courtyard (Tarrytown-Westchester County) Hotel stay. It was such a bad experience that when I had a chance to stay 2 more weeks in the same Hotel...I paid MORE $$ to stay at a completely different Hotel.
What happened you ask? I check-in, enter my room and realize the heating/cooling unit did not work (on a fairly cool night in NY). I pick up the phone in my room to call the front desk and my phone doesn't work either. I use my cell phone and explain these things and I am told someone will be coming right away! 10 mins. go by, 20 mins. go by...26 mins go by and I call again. Only to be told to hold on again...I wait 45 mins. total (I was irritated at best). I also had an appointment to get to, so I go to the front desk to understand the delay and the same front desk worker who checked me in began to raise her voice at me and say, what do you want me to do? I sent the Manager up there and I don't know...I cut her off because the Manager is causally walking by. I ask him the same questions and he begins to give me all kinds of excuses instead of apologizing for the problems and further delay. I was extremely disappointed and cautioned him to make sure my phone worked and the room was warm when I returned. I thought the matter was handled when I returned...long story short, the heating unit did not really work but the phone issue was resolved. You would think after this unfortunate incident that the Manager (Antonio) would greet me with overwhelming kindness and graciousness right! WRONG...he barley spoke to me as a guest in his Hotel, he was dismissive and he made me feel less than. His lackluster attitude was very disappointing but I tried to ignore it and just "grin & bare it."
With that said, the staff at the Bistro were AMAZING!!! I highly recommend the roasted vegetable pesto pasta dish (add chicken), it was delish! The housekeeping staff were good too. Personally, I would never recommend this particular Hotel to anyone I know! But if you have to stay here, just keep in mind things in the room my not work properly and Management my not move quickly to meet your needs but I survived and...
Read moreI just completed a 4 night stay at the Courtyard Tarrytown Westchester County 475 White Plains Road Tarrytown New York 10591 April 28-May 2.
I have stayed at this location at least 5 times in the past and although it was never a luxurious experience, it was in the past clean and relatively comfortable accommodations. This time however the experience was sub standard.
We were greeted in the parking lot by a raccoon in the middle of the day defending a garbage can and retreating to the sewer. When we mentioned this to the front desk they were nonplussed and laughed it off. There were tarps covering the windows above the pool that looked like they had been there for years. There was a strong smell of smoke (incense?) throughout the hallways. The lock on the door to the room worked only intermittently. The room, and the rest of the hotel, was not only rundown but dirty. The carpets, bathroom, and bed had discussing stains. Understandably, due to Covid, daily housekeeping was limited to every three days. But because of a coffee spill on the sheets we asked for the bedding to be changed after the second night. We were initially refused but after making repeated requests the front desk reluctantly agreed to move the housekeeping up one day. The sheets were changed but the rest of the room was not cleaned. No new towels or soap, no garbage cans emptied.
We are booked for another stay at this location for two rooms August 14-19. Because of this unsatisfactory and disgusting experience we attempted to shift our August reservation to another Marriot location nearby. The Westchester Marriott 670 White Plains Rd Tarrytown, NY 10591. When I called to make this change I was told on the phone that it was not possible to change this reservation because I prepaid the bill. This is ridiculous, unacceptable and outrageous. As a loyal Marriott coustomer and Bonvoy member I should not be forced to stay in a disgusting location when there is a perfectly acceptable alternative run by the same company. Don’t you want to keep a Marriott customer? I do not want to have to look to a competitor for acceptable accommodations. I expect that you will contact me to upgrade my reservation for August 14-19 to the...
