We booked a family trip for 2 nights. Arrived at 10pm and went straight to our room. After putting the kids to sleep my wife and I noticed that our pillows were soaking wet. We questioned if the kids were playing with water and just threw the pillows aside and went to sleep. About 2 hours later at 2am I'm woken up with water pouring on my head - literally. Clearly there was a leak from above. I went downstairs and spoke with the manager who said "Oh we knew there was a leak but not sure where it was." Well Mr. Manager, I just told you where it was. He proceeded to fumble his words and said "I'm not a plumber, I can't help you." No offering of a different room, never did he offer a cot or replacement pillows, not even an attempt to send someone to look at it. I was nothing but polite to this guy, never escalated my voice and was very understanding that this wasn't his fault, but he couldn't give any sort of console other than a free breakfast, you're at this position to do more than just play on your phone and shoo people away with your free breakfast tickets. The following morning I spoke with another manager that was able to move us to another room. Wow, service! They said they would give us a credit for this horrible stay and later said that the credit would only show upon checkout. That must've been an excuse to get me to leave before doing less than what was promised because I got an email the next day saying that I'm getting a $50 credit, meanwhile it was about $150 for the night. I called and asked where this $50 figure even came from and they said that's all they were willing to do. Way to go owning up to your promises Sheraton. I admit the leak was not their fault but the manor in which this issue was received was absolutely horrible. So let me review the rest of the place. The lobby is nice but usually overcrowded and noisy. The "dining" area is located a couple of feet from the lobby with some fake trees to separate the areas. So you could imagine it's also noisy and this "continental breakfast" was not worth the $20/pp charge - at least mine was free although, I'd rather have paid and gone elsewhere. From the elevator to the halls you can see and smell the 1980's. Ice machines out of order, random leaks in the halls with drying fans making noise and extension cords leaving potential tripping hazards everywhere. Great management! This was all foreshadowing for what the rooms look and feel like. The awful moldy smell, the shades didn't work, the "fridge" which kept your beverages at slightly lower than room temperature, the shower handles, faucets and spouts barely kept on with silicone and look like they're about to fall off, again, old wallpaper peeling at the seams, carpet stains - gross. The beds were good, Sheraton typically does a good job there, when water isn't falling from the ceiling onto our pillows and heads. I'm sorry to have to go out of my way for this review, typically that's not like me but Sheraton - you've earned it! Thanks for a...
Read moreThis older-style hotel is located in an odd mixed-use industrial park.
The park boasts value-added amenities like a bank of Tesla superchargers and a grocery store. However, there aren’t other dining or useful retail offerings. My guess is the hotel was purpose-built for the corporations which inhabit the park.
The location is a good launching pad for activities in and near Sleepy Hollow.
Check-in was slow. The front desk staff were initially apathetic but warmed to us as the seconds ticked by. They weren’t terrifically professional but were sufficiently affable, making up for the former.
The elevators were old and slow but the hotel is not that big so wait times were reasonable.
Our room was very small and overcrowded with furniture. Our stay was for only one night and since we didn’t wish to unpack, it was difficult to find a place to open and leave open our luggage. If our stay was longer, they was more than enough space to store our clothing and luggage.
The TV was average sized with outdated technology. There were no streaming options.
Electrical outlets were scarce or hidden behind furniture.
The bed was reasonably comfortable but the old coil spring mattress creaked and complained whenever we repositioned or got out of bed. The linens were mid-level quality but our pillows were at the end of their usable life.
In the bathroom we enjoyed the excellent Gilchrist and Soames soaps, creams and conditioners. We didn’t enjoy spending several minutes rinsing the previous guests’ pubic hair down the shower drain. Nor did we enjoy the visible mold/mildew.
The toilet was old and barely flushed despite a massive water wasting tank.
There was an unfortunate and unpleasant faint smell of smoke in the corner at the far side of the room near the exterior wall. It was a constant on my side of the bed. I assume it is a residual of the days when smoking was still permitted.
I tried the breakfast buffet which is what you would expect. The coffee was burned and the offering were similar to a Fairfield Inn free buffet. I thought the eggs were good until I got to the end a found a thick black hair on the plate. Then I found another embedded in the eggs. Gross, gross, gross.
However, for us, this hotel was severely lacking and it won’t be a hotel that we patronize...
Read moreThis hotel has gone down significantly in quality in the last three or so years. I stayed here twice in 2016 and 2017, and I loved it, but when I returned in April 2019 I was very disappointed. It's suddenly a very different and inferior hotel. They re-did the lobby in a much less charming style, eliminating the lovely fireplace that had been there and making the entry area very blah and sterile.
I don't normally leave negative reviews for places, but on this occasion the negatives piled up, so I feel obliged to list them. On the Saturday of our recent stay the restaurant was mysteriously closed during lunchtime even though the posted sign said it was open every day. No explanation posted--just a "Section Closed" sign right next to the sign saying lunch was supposed to be from 11 to 2. When we did use the restaurant for breakfast earlier that day, the quality of the breakfast was vastly inferior to what it had been in prior years -- in prior years the buffet had been quite tasty and varied but now it was bland.
Then there was the hotel's general quality of service: my advance request for a feather-free room was ignored, as was my request for a crib for my toddler (a request I made at the time of the reservation and then called again a few days in advance of the stay to confirm, but still no crib). The staff are not particularly welcoming and act as though you are disrupting their day if you ask for anything (even if it's something you reserved in advance).
For example, we had a room with a fold-out sofa bed that I planned for my five-year-old son to sleep on. There was no blanket in the room so I called to ask for one -- and they told me they had none, and just offered us a couple of extra sheets instead of a blanket or comforter. How does a hotel not have enough blankets and comforters for all of its beds, especially when they advertise on the website that the room has a fold-out bed?
I want this review to be fair, so I will note the positive points. The indoor swimming pool is clean and well maintained, and the guest rooms are clean and tidy. We stayed in a corner room and the spaciousness and natural sunlight were very nice. But overall this was a very disappointing stay compared to our past experiences with this hotel and we are unlikely to...
