This is a very unfriendly Marriott!||- Not a single person offered to help with baggage for either me or my wife. Not a friendly way to greet people that just drove 5 hours to get there. ||- The the check-in people had a strange negative vibe. They likely dislike their job, or they are being over-worked. Interactions did not improve over the stay. The problem is likely the hiring manager chose the wrong people for the job, and failed to train them. I've never experience this at other Marriotts, or frankly, any other hotel.||- The bathroom door is not wide enough for a large person (see photo) or someone that uses a "walker" or someone that is assisting another person to the bathroom (such as a child helping an elderly parent). I have never seen such a small door opening to a bathroom, except maybe on a cruise ship.||- The bathroom door is like a "barn door" which looks pretty cool. However, it has several bad pinch points if you are not very careful. Unlikely a child can operate it.||- The floor lamp had no switch to it. I had to unplug it when going to bed. ||- There were updated plugs, allowing for easier recharging of phone and light controls in the room.||- We were out to dinner and then came back about 10PM. The keys to our room were not recognized. We went to front desk to have them rekeyed. GUESS WHAT... they didn't work again. So they sent the locksmith, apparently the batteries died inside the lock. The locksmith was nice, respectful, and professional. GUESS what, the same thing happened to me at a recent Marriott stay in another state. It is a major pain to be locked out of ones own room. And having to walk all the way back to the front desk for help. And then I am stuck both waiting for, and to tip the guy that fixes the problem. I should be the one getting the tip! ||- The reservation system said nothing about firearms not being allowed on premises. I did not see anything when going through the front door to check in. But later, when I parked around the back, there was a doorway to get inside that warned about guns on the premises. If you are a gun owner, or support the Constitution of the United States, never stay at this Marriott. I did not see a single security guard at the hotel, so it is a very dangerous place to stay since the only people with guns will be the criminals. And thus there is no way to protect oneself as a non-criminal guest. Would never bring my family back again to this Marriott.||- Breakfast buffet for $26/each was fresh and delicious. Fruit was especially fresh, clean, and cut up nicely. French toast was thick and cooked nicely. Scrambled eggs appear to be from powder mix, but I believe every buffet in the country does that. The waitress was nice, but did not really do anything except write the bill and/or confirm if payment was pre-paid.||- Room was clean, pillows and bed was very comfortable. But HVAC was LOUD and I kept switching between sweating all night, to being cold, and/or both. ||- Parking was ample and free. ||||Marriott BONVoY app issues:||- Breakfast app forced me to wait till 6AM to order breakfast. Which is ridiculous that I could not put an order in prior to going to sleep that would be delivered at a specific time in the AM. ||- Ongoing App failures, see photos||||After checkout, there was an extra unexpected charge posted to my account. When I go into the app, I cannot access my bill/receipt. See photo. I don't have time to chase this down.||||Overall, I do not recommend this Marriott and I am thrilled to...
Read morePros: This hotel is indeed newly remodeled (so newly remodeled, parts are still being remodeled as of our stay). Our room was nicely redone overall, with a comfortable bed, a desk/chair setup, and (wonder of wonders these days) a guest chair as well. A long, padded bench seems to have replaced a luggage rack (we'd still like a luggage rack, thanks kindly). On either side of the bed, there was (gasp) a nightstand with room for glasses, watches and phones as well as ample USB chargers and outlets. There was room to stow a backpack or purse underneath. Hurray!||Our room had a scenic overlook of...the highway, and a little road noise did seep in even with white noise playing. We did not hear doors closing from the hallway, and we were one room shy of the elevator and heard no noise from that area either.||Small details: we appreciate the elevator system that tells you what elevator to get into for your destination, a nice, modern detail. We also appreciated free parking.||We had dinner in the hotel restaurant once. Food was good, service was lovely. Live music was setting up as we left, and might make it challenging for casual conversation (we didn't stay to find out).||Cons: We were a party of three, and we had exactly two bath towels in the room. Perhaps this is a cost saving measure, perhaps they expect you to ask for more towels...regardless, this is beyond annoying. Bare minimum, three towels please.||There was no way to turn down the light in the bathroom, so if you walk in at 2am, expect to be blinded. ||We had originally booked this hotel because it listed a pool. The renovations/remodel evidently included removal of the pool. We found out on arrival--it would have been nice to know prior, since it was listed on the website.||Our biggest frustration comes from having booked club level. Marriott's club support has been...inconsistent since their acquisition of Starwood (and never met Starwood levels). We understand the hotel was still remodeling and making the best of the situation; however the club offerings were somewhat insulting.||Evening offerings were two types of cookies, crackers, and an assortment of utterly tasteless cheeses. There was bottled water and soda. The room the club service was normally offered in was evidently being remodeled, so it was shoehorned into an awkward space on floor 1. If you came to the club level after hours, the bottled water was locked up, which was frustrating when we just wanted to grab a beverage at 6am.||Returning in the morning, the "buffet" breakfast offered: an assortment of palm-sized pastries, bread that you could toast, fresh fruit, bacon, and eggs. There was orange and (maybe?) cranberry juice, and dispenser coffee. The staff was friendly. However, if you arrived anytime during peak breakfast, you'd be out of luck finding a place to eat. You might actually be grateful for that given "Good Morning America" or CNN was playing at maximum volume. It was inescapable and annoying, and unnecessary. Please folks, you don't need talking heads shrieking at 6am--play some quiet music. No TV required.||This hotel seems to see a lot of business travelers and conference traffic, so don't expect a lot of peace and quiet in the common areas. Overall nothing really special, and nothing really terrible--we wouldn't stay again for a...
Read moreOverall impression: nice hotel, but a few serious drawbacks that were disappointing - especially for a Marriott.
I stayed at the Westchester Marriott for the 50th reunion of my college graduating class.
The Wednesday (8/28) Welcome Reception cost $50 – for which light veggies and crackers were served (no beverages). This was way overpriced for what was offered. Next time I would not pay the price for the reception, and simply stand out in the hallway for conversation. For the $100 (for my wife & me), we could have had substantially more served to us in the hotel bar area (incl. drinks), or a modest meal at a nearby restaurant.
The manner in which drinks were served at the Wednesday reception (and the Thursday evening dinner) was ridiculous. Yes, we were told in advance that it would be a “cash bar” – but whenever I’ve heard this term in the past, it meant that drinks were not included in the price of the event. However, in this case, it meant that they only took cash – no credit cards or room charges – and even then you had to stand in line to buy a drink ticket, and then stand in line to get a drink. WHY?!?! I suspect that this resulted in fewer purchases (it certainly did in my case) and fewer tips for the bar staff. Thursday evening (dinner) I chose to walk out to the lobby bar, charge my drinks to my room, and carry them back to the banquet room.
Thursday dinner. The banquet room was over-packed – too many tables, too many people. It was difficult to move around, and drinks were jostled and spilled on to people’s dress clothing. Had there been a fire or other reason to need to exit the room quickly, there would have been numerous casualties. Management staff must have known in advance that a group of this size would have this problem, and should have other admitted that the hotel could not accommodate the event, or should have moved 10-20 tables out to the adjoining hallways.
Throughout the stay, table service in the lobby bar area for a la carte breakfast service (as opposed to the buffet) was s-l-o-w…
INTERNET: the internet service was EXCEPTIONALLY SLOW – about the slowest I have experienced at any hotel in the past 5-10 years. I use the “SPEEDTEST” app to measure internet speed, and the download speeds were consistently less than 1-2 mb/second (mps). I tried to upgrade to the better internet service and was unsuccessful.
Check-out: Although my room reservation had my Marriott Bonvoy # on the reservation, I did not receive credit or points for the stay until I contacted Marriott two weeks later.
I never received a Guest Survey following my stay.
Bottom Line: Would I stay here again? I might as an individual, but for a group event of this size I would probably move across to the Sheraton or another...
