Not the best stay, but could be good for a single night as an absolute last resort. This is definitely an overpriced economy hotel.
Pros: good location across from the mall, lots of food options nearby, pet friendly
Cons: no true closet, just a wall pipe to hang clothes above the kitchenette (which is not clear from the pictures online). TV guide didn't work. Bed is ROCK hard and pillows flat. extremely poor soundproofing - could hear everything above, below and next to us, our neighbors were blasting music until 3am. Smoke detector equipped with a bright green light which flashes constantly. Off putting lighting in the room, especially above the bed.
I think what made us most uncomfortable with our stay was our two interactions with the janitorial staff on our first night (of a two night stay). One instance we walked by the lobby elevator entrance as the janitor was exiting and he snapped at us "you scared the s* out of me bro”. the other instance - we joined a different janitor in the elevator, my husband was wearing my jacket since he forgot his in our home state, so obviously it was a little small on him. As soon as we entered the elevator, the janitor gave us a dirty look as if we inconvenienced him by getting on, to which he said to my husband under his breath, "that jacket is a little small for you isn't it?" I was in shock and didn't respond, but I do not prefer to be snapped at and called out by the staff at the hotel. Extremely unprofessional of both of them. Luckily we didn't have to interact with anyone else as we used the Hilton app to checkin and get our room key.
Frankly after the above incidents we considered switching hotels, but given only a two night stay and we were only a mile away from our destination, we decided to tough it out. Barely got any sleep. You’d probably be better off on the Homewood side if you must stay at this property, but the staff and room leaves much to be desired. Will certainly not be back.
Update 4/10/24: Management reached out and was very apologetic, worked to rectify the poor experience. Amending review to three stars given good...
Read moreThe breakfast staff here are amazing!!!! and they both make everyone feel welcomed and cared about. Shantasia and Jessica treat you like family and always happy with smiles on their faces. They go beyond to make sure they help you with serving you your breakfast and if you are late for breakfast they always make sure to find you something to eat. I’ve never seen them without smiles on their faces. This hotel is really lucky to have them as staff. As a business Owner we love to find staff like these two ladies because they are who makes your business succeed. We are here for 10 days on a business trip as my husband is the medical Dr for the vaccination clinic here at the mall. The mall is right next to our hotel and it makes it super convenient to just drive or walk over to mall to have lunch with him. The rooms are super clean and staff all super friendly besides one front desk girl who’s worked two mornings in a row and she’s very rude and not friendly at all. She just doesn’t smile and when you ask for something or walk by she’s just not friendly and snooty acting. The janitors and house cleaners are always super friendly and smiling. I guess if you only have one unfriendly staff you aren’t doing too bad.The evening front desk ladies are super amazing and friendly! Always smiling, saying hi and complementing people as they walk by. They really make you feel at home. Kindness goes a long ways when you own a business. It’s quite and very nice to work from our hotel room. They have a nice heated pool and really nice gym. If I could give these breakfast ladies and the hotel a 10 star ⭐️ I would. We will definitely stay here again if we return to NY. We also love the concept of the two hotels being combined together. First time we have seen this and it’s...
Read moreThe TRU hotel is an unfortunate case of the desire for a high-tech contemporary look overwhelming good functional design. The rooms have minimal shelf space for luggage and other accoutrements, and not much other space for accessible storage. No closet. Most of the minimal shelf space available is occupied and overwhelmed by a huge tv monitor. Only a small pull-out desk, and that’s on rolling wheels and shifts position too easily if you lean against it. Only one desk chair on wheels, but no place else to sit except on the bed, even an improvised seat on something at the right height other than a chair. A second person wishing to sit must sit on the bed itself, not an ergonomically desirable place. And given that the desk chair and desk are on wheels, it makes leveraging a challenging physics problem for those of us who use it to help us stand up. A microwave and refrigerator are provided, but no coffeemaker or even cups for beverages or use in rinsing your mouth after brushing your teeth. An icemaker is in the hall near the elevator, but there are no ice buckets in your room to collect ice in. There’s only a shower, no tub, and the showerhead is high up, making it difficult to adjust. Too bad there’s no hand-held shower wand. And the door to the shower (not a curtain) doesn’t close tightly enough to prevent a lot of water leaking out on the bathroom floor. The bathroom door opens up in a way as to obscure the only hooks to hang towels on (and no towel bars as alternatives).||Nice reception. Decent breakfast. Clean room, except that the body lotion dispenser was empty. But good staffing can't make up for the fundamental...
