The absolute worst hotel I've ever experienced. It IS a 2-star hotel, so manage your expectations (even though they will be high due to the nightly rate). Despite being relatively new, this hotel FEELS old. Very old. When I got into my room, the thermostat was set at 80 degrees, which lent itself to the moldy smell in the room (picture the smell of a gym locker room by an indoor pool). Due in part to the thermostat setting, the humidity was very high, and at it only takes a few days for mold to grow under that condition. I'm allergic to mold and can smell it a mile away, but had no choice but to stay that night. Due to the humidity, the caulking was peeling off in the bathroom, which was exacerbated by the fact that there is no exhaust fan in the bathroom. The beds were pretty uncomfortable (I got 2 queens and lined the mattress with the pillows from the other bed so it felt softer). The breakfast service is the worst I have seen. Food items had run out, which took several requests to get them refilled (although some were never refilled). The options were abysmal (hard bagels, fruit that didn't seem fresh and was coated with some sort of juice or sugary substance, no hot cereal) and the toaster was malfunctioning, so everyone had to keep turning it upside down and banging it on the counter to release their toast as it was not doing so on its own, causing toast to burn, and sometimes ignite inside the toaster. This caused the entire breakfast area to fill with smoke, which was very uncomfortable to breathe. Guests opened side doors so that some smoke would leave the room. I complained to the woman at the front desk several times, and she never moved an inch in the direction of the breakfast area to help or even see what was happening.
I ended up staying at the Hyatt Place Poughkeepsie the following 6 nights. Yes, it was inconvenient, but it was one of the most beautiful hotels I've seen. It was half the price of the Hampton Inn & Suites Newburgh Stewart Airport, it's brand new...they just finished building it a month or so ago, the rooms are huge, the beds and pillows MUCH more comfortable that the Newburgh Hampton Inn (there is also a leather sectional pull-out couch), the thermostat was set at 68 when I entered the room, so it didn't feel like I was entering a moldy sauna (like the Newburgh Hampton Inn), the staff was so professional and kind, and the breakfast options were amazing! They had fresh fruit, steel cut oatmeal, organic meats, gluten free and vegan options, organic, raw honey, almond milk, and tons more. Most importantly, everything was refilled in a timely manner (without guests having to repeatedly ask, as was the case with the Newburgh Hampton Inn), the appliances work and were not hazardous, and it felt quite luxurious. I would highly recommend everyone travel about 25 minutes down the road, pay half of the price, and feel like you're staying in complete luxury at the Hyatt Place...
Read moreThe hotel is fairly easy to find; entrance is right along the highway. The staff seems friendly and helpful enough. And the rooms are fairly spacious and clean. A buffet style breakfast is also included. But alas, this is where my compliments end. Every few seconds I could hear a roar outside my room's window. At first I thought they were jet airplanes rumbling down the runway for takeoff. Then I realized that the noise was coming from the adjacent highway and the commercial trucks rolling down the highway and making this roaring noise. I think the rooms need better soundproofing. Next, when we stepped outside for the day and returned to our room later, we were shocked to find out that the add-a-lock on our room's door, the one that can only be engaged when you're inside your room for extra security at night, was engaged and there was no way for us to enter our room. This was, to say the least, very perplexing and surprised us very much. At first I thought we were at the wrong hotel room. And after triple checking, we were positive that we were at the correct room. So we had to go downstairs to the lobby and inform the receptionist that we needed help to get back into our room. She immediately went into defensive mode and started blaming us that maybe we slammed the door, and that was the reason why the lock engaged itself. First of all, we never slam our hotel door, no matter where we stay. We're very considerate of other people. Second of all, if that were true that the door had been slammed, the receptionist should not even accuse us of that because the lock should never self engage with the slamming of a door. Even though someone from maintenance came fairly quick to help us enter our room, the experience with that receptionist left a sour memory in my mind. Also, we requested a room near the elevator. I'm blind and have a difficult time walking long distances to look for specific things like the elevator. Our room was pretty far from the elevator. And although I know that this kind of thing is based on availability, we did notice that people arrived the day after we did and were given rooms much closer to the elevator. This next point may be a bit of a nitpick, but the buffet breakfast seems to be lacking in traditional breakfast meats. I had scrambled eggs and some kind of sausage. It wasn't a traditional breakfast link, instead it tasted more like a sweet hot dog. And no bacon either? There were cold cuts, but cold cuts for breakfast really aren't my thing. All this for nearly $460/night. Really?! I couldn't help but notice that we paid almost as much as one week in an all-inclusive Beach resort for only two nights in this hotel. These are the reasons for my 3⭐ review. We were in Newburgh for the wedding of a close friend, and drove nearly 4 hours. So I'm not really sure if I would stay in this...

This hotel is nicely renovated and has beautiful fixtures and amenities. The lobby is beautiful and our room was spacious. Our room was clean, and the bathroom toiletries were great.
The weekend we traveled here, there was a terrible storm. Legit. Cancelled the lacrosse tournament we were in town for in the middle of day 2. We had three nights reserved at the hotel. So to kill time (legit couldn’t go anywhere because there was a flash flood warning that kept getting extended ad nauseum), our family of three brought devices and a book to the lobby and proceeded to sit silently, doing our own thing (reading and playing Zelda) for a few hours.
Then the desk clerk called across the lobby like she was summoning us. I took out an AirPod and asked what was up, since I couldn’t imagine a reason we needed to be bothered unless there was an issue. I went to the desk, and after asking the room number, she then told us the manager was concerned we were sitting in the lobby because we were homeless, and not actually hotel guests. She seemed shocked that we were starting our third day of our reservation and when my husband asked if it really looked like we were homeless, she started blathering on about hotel safety etc etc.
We asked to speak with the manager, and was told they weren’t at the hotel and they had seen us sitting in the lobby on cameras.
If you’d like to be accused of being homeless and not just bored, stay here. If you’d like to speak with a front desk clerk who is clearly overwhelmed and making poor judgment, also stay here. And if you’d like to stay at a hotel where the customer service at the front desk is nonexistent, this fits the bill too.
PS—the Peloton in the fitness room doesn’t log in. And the pool is constantly...
