I needed a place stay for a trip to Glimmerglass in Cooperstown. I was surprised that the reviews were as positive as they were for a Super8, but for the most part, it did not disappoint. ||I know the area because I went to school in Oneonta, but had never stayed. My family visits the area with some frequencly, but our hotels of choice were just too expensive for this time around, so we went with Super8. ||Positives: |-the room was clean and comfortable and we felt safe.|- Fridge and Microwave, which are always a bonus. The shower was really nice with ample room in the bathroom sink area. They even had a shower bench for elderly or disabled, which was nice to see though not needed for our trip. |-TV worked great though I had to find the sleep timer on the set itself bc the remote didn't include it|-close to lots of shopping/restaurants with Cooperstown about 25 minutes away||Negatives:|-breakfast is basically some fruit and muffins (though this may be represented on its site--I don't remember, but don't expect much). Three is a Denny's right next door with other great options (Social Eats about 7 minutes away is amazing!).|-lots of pot holes in the parking lot so be careful navigating. I probably looked like I was intoxicated as I slowly swerved all over trying to avoid them|-there was a musty/smoky smell in the room. Perhaps from construction or old something or other--it's a shame, because the room itself was really fine. If something could be done about that, it would be really great. Though annoying, I was okay though I started to feel it in my throat. I would imagine those with more sensitivities would have a bigger issue with it. ||I would stay there again, though I'll likely try my regular spots first. In a bind for $$ or availability, I would have no qualms...
Read moreI have stayed in this motel a couple times in the past 10 years and it used to be less expensive, and cleaner and better kept. Scheduled with a guy on the phone from the website online for Super 8. He was very nice and capable. Got to the hotel, the driveway is terrible with potholes, its NY, I get it. But for a place of service, spend some money and fix the driveway and appearance as well as hiring a landscaperandtrim the over hrown trees, bushes, weeds etc.....people are spending their hard earned money at your establishment. The far right end of motel where we entered after check in has no light. Needs a light. Entry way REEKED of smoke like someone was smoking in a non smoking place. Smelled terrible in the hallway also. The room appeared clean, however the floor had crumbs, spiders and cobwebs in the corners. Walls had worn paint and looks like some kind of water leak in the bathroom and ceiling with "rolling" paint falling off above the shower and the side of the shower having cracks. The water in the shower was HORRIBLE and dangerous going from scalding hot to freezing cold. Black mildew/mold? in the shower. The blow dryer did not work. The bed you could feel what felt like springs, hard and uncomfortable. However, the sheets looked fairly clean. Spider webs in the hallway sconces. Place was HIGHLY overpriced at $152.... $65 is a more realistic and reasonable price for...
Read moreI have never booked or never would have generally chosen to book at a super 8 , mainly because I am just unfamiliar with the brand and used to staying at larger hotels with more amenities but it was the only place that had availability (during college drop off week) after we cancelled our previous room at The Clarion hotel right after check in because it was filthy and unsafe. So so glad we did. Super clean! Wood tiled floors throughout and basic room amenities. The bed was comfortable and clean as were the bathrooms. Shower worked perfectly as well. The location is across the street from the main shopping center/mall , there is a Denny’s right out front and many other dining options within the immediate area, SUNY oneonta and hartwick college are 7 mins away . We paid about 180 for the room including the taxes. This saved us 100 dollars on the room we cancelled at the clarion and Also felt like a good deal for a last minute booking at 6pm for the same day. Generally speaking That is a higher price point than should be for this hotel but was glad to pay it for a clean safe place to stay. Linda, the front desk manager could not have been more pleasant or helpful! We even booked here for our future family...
