Joanell Serra|3/5|2 minutes ago on Google|I’ve gone back-and-forth between three and four stars. I think the problem is that it is called a “four star hotel” and that was part of why I chose it and it definitely didn’t feel four stars. First the positives, the room is spacious and clean. The bathroom was nice Including Radiant for heating. We had a really pretty deck that overlooks the falls, which are super pretty. When we specifically ask for things, the staff was pleasant enough.|That said they were not quick to offer things. For instance, when we checked, and there was literally no one else there. And yet I logged in all four pieces of luggage myself. My husband has advanced cancer and is not strong enough to be handling luggage so I did it all. Meanwhile, the guy sat at the desk and watch me do that. He actually said wow you guys have a lot of luggage. But did not get up. Once I’ve gotten everything on a cart and got the cart to the elevator, it occurred to him that we might need help. But at that point I had done most of it myself.|Our television was broken for two of our three nights. I called downstairs each evening and they had suggestions. The first night the guy eventually came up, but was not able to get Netflix or any movie site work or the Chromecast to work. The next night, the guy did not come up, but just said to try Chromecast, but he admitted the system wasn’t very good.|On the third day, I told them in the morning I would like the television to work that evening and somehow they got to work, which they clearly could’ve done the first day. Again, there was almost no one in the hotel so the fact that I had to keep asking for each thing was very strange.|The breakfast is seriously lame. I had read the reviews ahead of time so I knew that was going to be the case so I wasn’t particularly disappointed, but people weren’t kidding when they said what they have are frosted flakes, and super sugary yogurts in the fridge that you go help yourself too, And old fruit. Blah!|I’ve had much better breakfast at like best westerns|By the third night, there were three or four other people staying there and for some reason that I could not understand they lined us all up on the third floor with all of our decks basically touching. I didn’t really care, but it was strange when you go out on your deck and someone is quite literally right next to you because the divider is just a low gate, About 3 feet high, so there’s really no privacy at all. I understand they want to give everyone a beautiful view. I just thought when you have an empty hotel why wouldn’t space people out a little bit? I heard another family complaining about the same thing. It was pretty strange.||We tried the restaurant on the first night. Very mixed. Nice but naive waiter, totally rude hostess (maybe manager?) and nice sous chef. Terrible drink. Good food. Just not somewhere I could recommend. |On two other nights the restaurant was not open which again I knew that ahead of time having researched it, but some of the people who arrived were quite taken aback and there is no other food at the hotel. When I researched what makes a hotel for Starr one of the first things that comes up on Google is multiple dining options, and 24 hour a day dining options. Neither of those are at this hotel.|Next to the spa. I will review that separately. You should know most importantly that it is a mile away. It is not actually part of the hotel. You definitely have to drive to the spa.|It was ok. Nothing special, but certainly new and clean and the people were friendly. It has a strange little pool (plunge? But not cold?) and no umbrellas outside unless you pay for a cabana which is silly. The locker rooms were fine, not luxury. The treatment room was nice. Facial was just ok and they automatically put in a 20% gratuity. Pretty presumptuous. Front desk guy was very friendly.|No snacks out. And they have a fridge with drinks but no beer or cider, just wine in a can or vodka drinks. Meh.|Overall, I just can’t come up with how this is a four-star hotel and give it a four or five star rating. However, if you just need a nice place to stay up in the Catskills, (which are totally lovely) I wouldn’t rule this out. I would just think of it more as a three star hotel that’s a...

Read moreThe hotel and quality our room itself were beautiful. We loved the nice chocolates left for us in the end of the evening, the view, lots of nice touches. However, the attitude and interaction with the staff(the morning manager to be specific) was a memorably disappointing experience. My husband and I stayed with our 2.5 yr, 3.5 yr, and 8 year old children after spending a nice day with them at the Duchess County Fair. This was one of the only hotels we could find that had availability and we expected a nice experience with a nice hot breakfast. When we reserved our room, the staff told me that there would be a nice breakfast for our family, but forgot to mention that the Tavern doesn't open until 10am. Our young children need breakfast before 10am, more like at 8am. So, we unexpectedly had to pack up and check out our fussy, hungry children before feeding them to take them up the road for breakfast. While my husband packed our car, I stayed with our 3 children in the lobby area where our kids sat and waited. Our children were making the typical level of noise that you'd expect from their ages while waiting, antsy, ready to go. My 2 year old yelled out one time. The manager who never greeted us, acknowledged any of us while he was speaking to his staff member at the front desk, only approached me to very pompously request that I try to "control the noise level of my children because there are other guests staying at this hotel". I was doing my very best while my husband loaded up the car, and did not believe our children were unusually loud for their ages, it's just that they were noisier than your adult guests. I asked the pompous young manager if he himself had any children, he answered with his head up, "no , I do not". He continued to lecture me about keeping my children's voices quiet so that I would be respectful of other guests who may be resting in this small hotel. I informed the young man that as parents, we do not have this "control" to reduce their voices. I assured him we were doing our best to leave with our children as quickly as possible, as soon as my husband returns, we will no longer be a disturbance. In the meatime, I politely asked this young man (who has a lot to learn about children and toddlers), to ask my children to quiet their voices himself as my children often respond much better to strangers this way. As he was asking my toddlers to quiet down, my husband walked in. My 3 year old immediately grabbed onto his dad's leg and went to leave (he's no dummy, he knows when he's not welcome). Overall, this interaction where this man implied that i dont have good enough "control" of my 3 children, that I am disrespectful to others because of my lack of control over them reduced me to feeling pretty small. I felt angry, I left feeling like we were not welcome guests, that our children were a nuisance, we were all hungry, I felt like because of our lifestyle with our young family, we are expected to stay home, not to venture to stay at Inns like this. I never felt so unwelcome and like a nuisance because of this family lifestyle we chose. Honestly, I wanted to cry. The man never apologized for upsetting me like this, seeming to believe his "correction" of our "disrespectful" family was right. In defense, we have 3 beautiful, sweet children who have healthy energy levels. We do our absolute best at all times, but we fail to please everyone. This interaction with this manager was unforgettably rude. I feel he was was biased against young families, it felt like he did not like us and couldnt wait to be rid of us. For $330+ for the night? I dont think we deserved this treatment (to be reprimanded) just because we were staying as a family. I myself would certainly treat a young family with more TOLERANCE, welcome and acceptance than this. This was very...
