We stayed here for a few nights. The first room we were in was okay. The second we were in was better and bigger, though it was a BIG hassle and we told them we'd prefer not moving to the bigger room due to that. The reason it was such a huge hassle is because the workers are not there until late in the morning and not there late at night, plus we had to wait for them to clean the 2nd room. It really messed up our plans for our vacation and had my husband driving from Sleeping Bear Dunes back to the hotel and back to the dunes to deal with moving our stuff. So he didn't really get to enjoy the dunes with the kids. We would have been totally fine staying in the smaller room but they insisted on moving us to the bigger one.
The hours they list for being present are not accurate to when they are actually there. But they are very friendly when they are there and do respond promptly to e-mails.
The "free breakfast" was lacking so I recommend looking up and planning on grabbing breakfast elsewhere.
The prices are a little high on weekends for what you get just because it is Traverse City and everything gets booked up. Supply and demand, but the weekday prices are phenomenal.
It does look kinda sketchy and outdated, especially compared to other hotels in the area. When we pulled in there was even somebody in the parking lot with an ankle monitor on. They use old fashioned keys for the rooms and in our first room the deadbolt didn't lock/work with the key when leaving. You can tell they are working on renovating the rooms, though. The 2nd room looked nice and was better overall but if you have crawling kids/babies I would avoid the place. They had exposed pipes and wires etc along the back wall in the bathroom under the counter.
They are dog-friendly which is the only reason we booked with them. The dog-friendly hotels in the area are few and far between with availability and decent pricing. Just be prepared to pay the extra pet fee and also keep in mind that this hotel has a lot of noise. So if your dog barks at noises/voices I would find...
Read moreGreatly disappointed. We had a room booked somewhere else and called to verify the details a week before we went to TC. However, the they said they didn't have a roll away bed reserved for us as we had requested 5 months ago so we decided to find a room somewhere else. After spending a day calling around finding the few available rooms and rates, we decided to stay at the Grand Traverse Motel. This decision was based partly on the rate we were quoted and the lack of any really negative reviews for the place in comparison to the other hotels/motels that each had several bad reviews.
We arrived in TC a few hours early so it was nice that they let us check in early. Based on other reviews, we knew the motel was dated and figured it wouldn't be the greatest but we had no idea just how bad it was. At least the room was clean and they were in a fairly convenient location. But that's really where the good comments end. The pool they have listed and say they have was covered with some sort of tarp so you couldn't use it. Huge gaps around the door and the Air Conditioner in the wall kept letting mosquitoes and other bugs into the room. The room was definitely dated and the "chrome" light fixtures in the bathroom had rust spots all over them. We could barely get the bathroom door to close and the threshold to the bathroom door was loose and kept popping up. Inside the bathroom, several of the tiles were cracked and even loose. The oddest thing though, when I stepped on the tile floor, I heard a "squish" sound as if I were walking and soaking wet carpet or something.
Honestly, I just felt gross being there. I'm all about supporting the little guy and being open to staying new places. This is one place I will not be going back to and will not...
Read moreI never post bad reviews ever. BEWARE!! These motel reviews are not legitimate. The positive reviews are not accurate. Dirty, run down, creepy desk clerk, toilet doesn't flush, carpet in bedroom was so disgusting and sticky I wouldn't walk my dog on it, the clerk is deceitful about the occupancy of rooms, they only rent a small portion out because they can't afford to clean or repair the rooms they have, no refund despite my having pre paid four nights and didn't stay one. I booked two rooms for two couples. There is nothing even charming about this run down building. I was told absolutely no refund although the confirmation email said the day prior to arrival. We ended up staying down the road at a lovely place and ate the cost of this traverse motel just to leave. The clerk refused to get a supervisor when I asked for one when they didn't honor the cancellation (notice day before arrival). Since I booked multiple nights, I should have gotten partial refund but he refused and told us to leave if we didn't like it. The whole operation is terrible. Book at your own risk, stay at your own risk. I'm certain there are bed bugs, though I didn't let my stuff touch the ground. It's not quaint, or even retro. It's more pay by the hour if your get my drift. I would never ever stay here and the positive reviews I see here are not legitimate or if they are it's because the occupant was loaded the whole time. 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢 Run. We legit walked away from four paid nights with no refund to pay twice as much down the road in order to avoid putting our bags down...
