Hello!
We decided to stay because we really loved the look of this place and could tell that there was a lot of thought put into the design of it (as would be expected from a design collection hotel). The rooms were so comfy and everything was great, including the people who were working and helped us out during our stay.
The reason I gave a lower score is that I can see that you are not giving your staff the support that they need to be able to offer the level of service that they are trying so hard to achieve. It was extremely clear that the hotel was understaffed. I could see the stress and how much effort was being made to try to make sure things were being done how they should be, but it was a clear struggle, from the front desk to the bar/restaurant.
Being someone who comes from a service background with a spouse in the hospitality industry, I know exactly what it is like to be in their position. I know that a lot of people staying at the hotel might obliviously flat out blame issues on the staff for not doing well enough, but I want to make it clear In this review that your staff were wonderful. They just were scrambling to try to keep up with the numbers of guests who needed their attention. It's not fair to your team to put them in this position because beyond the way it impacts the guests, it impacts your team as well both mentally and financially, especially because this kind of issue will so often affect the tips that a lot of people rely on to make ends meet.
I think that they deserve better from the upper management team to give them what they need to give the guests staying at your hotel an experience matching the look that was so carefully cultivated. Falling short because you do not have enough staff on hand to be able to run things smoothly is a pretty big problem in the hospitality industry, especially carrying the Marriott name. The people you employ are the faces and the hearts of your hotel. They are the ones who make a guests stay memorable. Take care of them and your guests will be thanking you for years to come.
This hotel is nothing without the people who are on the ground level, face to face with your guests. Cute cactus and cowboy branded merchandise is only one piece of the guest experience. I left this place feeling quite conflicted because of how pretty it was paired with how frustrated I felt on behalf of the people working for you. I sincerely and strongly hope that you take this into...
Read moreThe property has a eclectic remodel of an older motel. Keep that in mind when booking. It is what it is and they did a decent job. Very creative. The bar/food service/work area is modern motel decore. Rooms were functional for what we needed, an overnight stay while on the road. I wouldn’t consider staying there more than a night. Here’s what happened that made our stay uncomfortable: they booked us in a “moutain” view room in the back which would have been fine but there was a pre scheduled exterior paint job happening and being set up very early the next morning. We were asked to move our car very early and then had to walk through plastic and taped up doors including our own, and hear workers shouting and hammering. The workers had a master key to all rooms which we were nervous about but as it turned out, they had to let us back in our room after breakfast as our key did not work! The night time front desk attendant gave us a late check out but didn’t tell the day crew. When we tried to discuss our disappointment with the day attendant, she showed no empathy or made no effort to compensate us for our troubles. We asked why we would have been booked in the back when 1. They knew they had this paint job scheduled and 2. There were so many vancant rooms in the courtyard area that were not being painted. There was no response to that. And then she had the nerve to say that we were supposed to call in the morning to arrange the late check out. This was news to us as we were told it was taken care of. As it was not yet 1:00pm when we talked to her, we asked her to re activate our keys so that we could get our belongings. She said she did, reluctantly, but when we walked all the way to the back again, worked our way around the painters and their set ups, the keys still did not work. Ther workers had to let us in again. We had already driven 12 hours and what should have been a relatively nice opportunity to recharge, turned into a stressful stay.
Update: we have asked to speak with management about our issues and they will not respond.
Update 2: in response to the comment made by the hotel-it was very obvious that there were many other vacant rooms at the property. In addition, the staff told us that the paining was scheduled on that day because they had a low number of reservations and that it is typically their slow time. WE STILL HAVE NOT HAD A RETURN CALL OR EMAIL FROM MANAGEMENT. WE ARE UNABLE TO CONTACT THEM. Very...
Read moreStayed here for 1 night. I live in Arizona but in the Phoenix area but a comedian I was seeing was in Tucson. This location was perfect! It is 9 minutes away from The Rialto (where I saw the comedian). Easy on and off access to the freeway. I was a bit skeptical I’ll admit because the surrounding area is a little rough BUT being someone that has stayed at a lot of AirBnB’s and hotels over the past couple of years, this one was very impressive for the price! The others that had unfortunate experiences I’m sorry to hear but someone that may be reading this now deciding if they want to stay… it is worth it for the price! My room was perfect for me and my fiancé. The king bed was perfect and comfortable and I loved the stand in shower! Shampoo, condition and body wash were provided which was great because I forgot mine. It had a little fridge in the room with 2 complimentary waters which was also perfect since I was tired and thirsty by the time I came back from our night out. The TV is a nice Samsung TV that has Netflix for you to sign into and stream! I brought my own Roku but didn’t even need to use it. Loved having Wi-Fi and there was plenty of space for us for a 1 night stay to place our bags. There is a couple of small drawers under the TV and plenty of space under the bed for storage which was nice since most hotels have under the bed covered.
The room had a small desk area which allowed me to use my iPad for film school and had an awesome Bluetooth speaker that I’m actually considering buying for myself!
Aside from the room. I had no issues checking in. It was my fault though when I got a little cranky when I was told I had to put down a $100 deposit but it was because I hadn’t read that in the notes when booking so make sure you’re aware of that! The lady at the desk was very nice though despite my attitude (I’m sorry if you read this!)
The pool area is super cool and the lobby is very nice! They have a bar area and can order breakfast (you have to pay for it) that had some great looking selections! There was also a fridge that had some snacks and drinks that you could buy which was nice because I didn’t want to drive to the store, I just wanted something quick and this was very convenient.
Overall, I had a VERY pleasant experience here at the Tuxon and would definitely stay here again...
