Someday if not already the land holding will pay off ,with this location it would be nearly impossible to fail. A french resturaunt will go in, healthier food, genuinely high prices. For now they do a mexican menu, they do it with casual flare, with competance, with premium in pricing to match the customers budget.
Yes it could be gourmet, and is not. Yes they provide choices for not just kids that rob the timid of what delights they have, the stories about no cheese, about lusting staff, about how it is low brow are no reason to avoid it. It is like the old university student union, high calorie, salty, sugary, or just super rodeo carnivory. It is not forcthe cheap, not for the conceited, not better then who is working when you go, less family i bet each decade. This is a place that supports a family quite large by now, that is vast, that tempts those starving to surrender to gouging or just wrong menu items. It is tucson, you will not get sick, the claims of dirty restrooms are silly, it is nog afraid, it is confident, relaxed, it has "got it", seen it all, dares to rise prices probably too little, during gem show weeks ago for exampe they couod of trippled prices and made more on reduced sales of course.
They likely need to lease it to private events more often, need to have guest chef nights, need more catering, more MBA grandkids to take risks with plant.
Such a building and location and brand will if not revved deny them great capital if ever liqidated, and i doubt that can be prevented.
The flan is firm, the beer potent, the calm and space offpeak priceless and truly there loss. Go when few do, go for shredded meat treats, go with gusto or travel further . The parking lot should be a patio, a shuttle to garages and hotels and to deliver would put half a dozen in harvard with ease. Cheap parking, multihour chilling, cost millions. But then not everyone likes corporate, and they are well within there...
Read moreI came here with my dad, around 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated right away, and given some chips and salsa while we browsed our menus. The chips were warm and crispy, and the salsa was smooth with a little kick. Great start! We asked the server about what was good, and ordered a couple of his suggestions: for me, the chicken enchiladas w/ 2 eggs on top; for my dad the chile relleno. I'd never even heard of adding eggs to enchiladas, but the menu noted that you could do it if you add like $1.75, and it seemed like a solid idea when I considered how much I love chilaquiles. The food took a bit, but they helpfully refilled our chips & salsa, so the wait wasn't too bad. Oh, and this guy walked in with a guitar and pipe flute, and started playing music (very well!) for various tables. While we didn't have him play for us, it did add some nice atmosphere. Our meals came, and we were both super happy! The enchilada sauce was a little smoky, with a little heat (a little less than the salsa), the chicken was shredded and tender, and the eggs had slightly runny yolks which combined quite well with all of the flavors. I had a bite of my dad's, and was equally impressed. The poblano wasn't overcooked, and still had some texture with a nice bright flavor, and the breading was nice and eggy. So delicious! Both meals came with rice and beans, and they also brought a giant folded tortilla to the table, which was nice to mop up my extra enchilada sauce with (but not sure whose meal it came with). We were super satisfied and full by the end, and I will definitely be coming back the next time I come...
Read moreThe food was excellent. Had to grab our own water from the bus station pitchers, though for refills, because it was so busy, which is the one reason for the four stars. Wish that we had bigger chip bowls on the table. Prices are higher than 15 years ago according to my friend who wanted us to try it. I think the prices of the food is a few dollars too high, considering there should be remodeled bathrooms (there were no seat covers or dispensors) no auto paper towel dispenser, or auto water, the door locks are old sliders. I was suprised and not expecting this. The bathrooms need a face lift, a small investment. I didn't mind the plastic water cups at the table, but would have been nice if they were large size. $17.00 for a rolled taco, enchilada, tamale, and Carne w beans served hot, fresh, and very yummy. I was hoping for sopapillas but there were none, and wished the chips were thicker and in a bowl bigger than a small child's cereal bowl for a table of 3. The salsa was great. I recommend this restaurant's food. Wish the dinner plate had a dob of sour cream and guac with the rolled taco for the price of the dish. Felt that the t's weren't crossed and the i's weren't dotted. You have to take your check to the cashier on the way out. Just a little over priced for...
