As this was our first big trip since the coronavirus crisis started, we were very excited. There were four people in our group and we stayed for a week . Vail in the summertime is attractive and we were not disappointed by the physical beauty. We went hiking, fly fishing, rode the wonderful Leadville railroad, and went off-road with four-wheel Razor vehicles (btw, the Vail area has relatively few mosquitos, a definite plus). Vail Village is nice, but very touristy and crowded, even in the summer. ||||We had a suite with a spiral staircase leading to two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. There was a fireplace, and they not only supplied chopped firewood, but also a starter kit (s’mores kits are $3 extra at the reception). There was a safe in the room and the free shuttle during the day is a great way to get to Vail Village. We had a nice view from our balcony, though part of it was I-70, with which apparently pretty much any accommodation in Vail has to deal.||||This hotel, however, has a big issue: no air conditioning. Yes, we were told in advance by hotel staff that there was no air conditioning, but they misled us about the effects of the summer climate. As it was described to us, daytime temperatures only get up into the 80’s and night-time down into 50’s so you can leave your windows open and you won’t need air conditioning. ||||What Marriott forgot to say is that the bright sun and dry air in Vail means you get really hot when you are out hiking or fishing (even with the proper protection), and not having air conditioning when you get back to the hotel at the end of the day (and when you are paying premium prices for the room) is a big turnoff. There were plenty of fans provided in our room, as well as humidifiers, but I ran two fans at full strength all night only to get the temperature “down” to 79 degrees. Not only are the rooms not air conditioned, neither are the hallways or the laundry room, which must have been 80 degrees while I was doing a wash (there is no washer and dryer in the rooms).||||As an Ambassador-level Marriott member, I have stayed at other Marriott Vacation Club properties. This one has a smaller kitchen area that you typically see at MVC’s and the activity room for kids (“The Cave”) is basically just a Ping-Pong table and a couple of computer consoles. Children’s facilities at other MVC’s generally offer crafts areas, a movie theater, and toys for toddlers (we had a 5-year-old in our group). In addition, the business center was closed for reasons not related to the coronavirus situation.||||Other than the issue with the air conditioning, the staff, particularly Kate Strickland, the Director of Room Operations, as well as the cleaning staff for our room, were very helpful and hospitable, which was much...
Read moreWe are MVC owners and have never had an experience like the one we have had here, at least not one where the staff didn’t go out of their way to remedy any issues immediately. That was until now. My family- including two daughters, 12 and 9, came for a week. The location is beautiful, but that’s where the quality we were used to from MVC ended. When we arrived to register, there was no one there to greet us. The front desk worker was upstairs retrieving items for another guest and we waited for quite a while. When we finally checked in, we were told the unit we are staying in doesn’t have Air Conditioning, but that we wouldn’t need it with the box fans they provided. However, our unit was on the top floor, with vaulted ceilings. The very busy highway was right outside our windows, so the noise was extremely loud all night. Our room never got below 80 and everyone had a really hard time sleeping.||As for the room itself, it was falling apart and we let management know. The following issues went unresolved for the entirety of our trip. There was NO hot water, the bedroom window wouldn’t open (remember no ac), and the freezer in the room was broken and we were trying to keep food in it. An ‘engineer’ came out to the room on the third day of our trip after calling the front desk multiple times, but he was very dismissive of the issues we had, going as far as telling me he hoped I brought him out to my room for a reason. He ended up leaving the gasket from the freezer on the floor of the kitchen and never came back. When the hot water still didn’t work after he left, I didn’t even bother to call back.||The rest of the room needs some major updates, just like the rest of the property. The cabinets in the kitchen were covered with grease splatter. The shower tiles were outdated. The pool on property is small and filthy. The scum that coats the walls of the pool and hot tubs is just really gross. And all the furniture is cheap and falling apart. Overall, the room and amenities are about what I expect at an average hotel, but not are way below what I pay for as an MVC owner. We will not be staying here again.||It seems that Marriott is buying up new properties and companies all the time. But maybe they should slow down until they can take care of what they...
Read moreWe have stayed at this property before in the Evergreen building last visit. This time on Labor Day weekend, we were in the Douglas building, which is an older building and not as spacious as the Evergreen. But what it lacks in space it makes up for in on property location, because it's the closest building to the main lobby and shuttle to Vail village. We had a one bedroom unit, and the nicest feature was the fact that there are two bathrooms in the unit - one with a tub/shower combination and one with a stall shower. Regarding parking, there are some covered spaces, but this building got short changed with regard to parking spaces. Regarding check in, the front desk folks are friendly enough, but they don't exactly go above and beyond. Regarding other amenities, the property doesn't have a whole lot to offer. Thereis a small indoor/outdoor pool and hot tub area in the main building, as well as a gym and steam room and sauna, but all are old and a little run down and not as luxurious as at some other Marriott properties. There is another small hot tub area up a long flight of stairs near the Douglas building - not bad in summer months, but I wouldn't want to climb those stairs in winter with snow and ice. The unit itself shows its wear but it and the building are clean enough. When we got to our unit there was a musty smell in the hallway, and the maintenance crew had high power fans set up - must have been some kind of water damage situation, which fortunately wasn't involving our unit. Once we opened the doors to the balcony and the windows and turned on our box fans, the smell seemed to lessen, but it was unpleasant and concerning at first. All in all, it's a nice property from which to base for trips to Vail village for summer activities and during ski season it's really convenient not to have to pay for parking in Vail or...
