I just wanted to thank the owner of the Hotel and the front desk people for turning my birthday vacation into a political theater for nonsmoking policies in the great state of California. I graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Political Science and the front desk person felt he needed to educate me on how the people of California are when it comes to smoking. Well considering they are in the tourist industry maybe if they want costumers to return they need to start considering how people from out of town are. So if you are a smoker you are not welcome in this Hotel. I found that out quickly about an hour after I checked in, mind you I am a 41 year old woman and I was God forbid on the balcony Outside smoking and was quickly notified that smoking was prohibited so if you are a smoker don't pay the money to stay here. I asked to be moved closer the the exit so I did not have to walk so far to get off the property every time I wanted to smoke and they would not accommodate me. Also they told me after an hour of being there that it would be to hard for them to refund my money if the owner would even approve a refund. They actually had the nerve to compare themselves with the Marriott lol. So for $167 to have a room on the beach where as a smoker I pay taxes on tobacco you will be discriminated against treated like you are stupid that told that the taste of a $1 cup of coffee will make it all better. I was stuck in a room where I spent more time on the beach in my lawn chairs than I did on there $167 broken down balcony. The front desk person lied and said every hotel in California does not permit smoking on the property and the great Governor of California is passing laws to ensure that The second night I stayed for $80 half the money in a hotel a block away where as long as you where out side the room on the balcony you were ok to smoke. I spent my time on the beach 10 feet off the property from The Inn on the beach smoking. don't waste your money here its was not worth the hassle. I also want to add some of my political 2 cents. my husband who is 44 years old and was medically retired from the military for sacrificing himself so that people can use their 1st amendment rights to be so ignorant in the treatment of people because they smoke . Thank you to the owner and front desk people of this Hotel for giving me a memorable ...
Read moreI thought it would be worth it to have a place ON the beach. It would have been SO MUCH BETTER to walk a block to the beach and stay at a nice place for the same price It was a DIRTY, RUN DOWN, place. First the "manager guy" has such bad nail fungus...on all his fingernails that what bits of finger nail was left was greenish and gooey I tried not to be rude but yuck as he hands me my key and telling me about their free breakfast. At first glance you think the room is O.K. but what I thought was a green patina on a picture frame was just a thick layer of grunge and then dust bunny globs in all the detail work on the headboards. broken toilet told me just jiggle handle, no a/c asked for a fan FINALLY gave me one..switch broken on it cord had electrical tape to hold it together with hair balls stuck in the tape. Had a downstairs unit NOT PRIVATE like the website states. I had a cup of water by my bed and in 20 minutes COVERED with ANTS! (They gave me a can of Raid) The ants returned 2 days later . They where swarming my water glass! I almost drank them! they were all over the desk and in my daughter's computer They were swarming in the shower and all over the toothpaste and mouthwash container. The place was loud and dirty. I'm a single mom so I couldn't afford to pay for this place and then go to another place too! I should have stayed at Motel 6 for 1/3 of the price and at least not be attacked by ants! When I asked for a partial refund the gooey finger guy really got insulted and told me I already had a great deal! I guess the creepy "maintenance man" lurking on me and my neighbors patio was extra. Never again! I took pictures before I left. I will put them...

I love the old flowered wallpaper. The furniture is antique and quirky. Best of all it is indeed right on the sand with spectacular views all day long. I just got back from there for three nights and 4 glorious days. The beach during the week is uncrowded. Seagulls will perch on the balcony and beg for food. The pier is about a mile walk. There is a state park nearby with plenty of open space to jog, a scenic bike path that goes to the pier, and several little restaurants basically next door. You can get Thai, Mexican, Italian, burgers, yogurt. There is even a liquor store a block away. The staff is chill. The ambiance of the neighborhood is chill. However, this is a big one, they really need new carpeting in the rooms. I understand they're working on it. Also the mattresses are too soft. I will still go again even with super grungy carpet and soft mattresses. I love this place so much It totally relaxes me. There is a whistling through the building hallways as the wind picks up in the afternoon. It's spooky and beautiful. The sound of the ocean waves crashing lulls me to sleep at night. The water is too cold for me but there are a few hardy swimmers out there. Lifeguards are on duty. There's a sign that says dogs are prohibited yet people have dogs on leashes at this beach. It just highlights the attitude: kind of nonchalant and whatever. If you're looking for a kickback beachy place that feels like an old surf motel or even hinting at an old lighthouse this...
