The Sushi House Ventura — Restaurant in Ventura

One word describes my experience today. Disappointing. I would give 1 star but I have a soft spot for this place since I used to live one mile away and have eaten here at least 50 times and introduced all my friends and family.

So.. I just spent an hour in traffic taking my dad here from simi Valley for fathers day. He looooves their avocado bombs. I called days before to verify the patio would be open only to be told not only do they not have seating but also the deep fryer is broken. So, no avocado bombs.

Now I understand things happen out of their control but it was the way the associate handled this situation that lead me to write this review. No empathy or any effort in making us feel like we would want to eat there after our long ride and inconvenience by being misled that the patio would be open for us. On top of that the food quality has diminished as prices for our favorite item continued to go up in price over the years. I get that avocado prices have increased but seriously its been a far cry from previous meals I've had here. I sat quietly by as that happened but now... Makes me not want to come back again and thats a shame because I've been a loyal customer, and this leads me to believe that doesnt mean anything to this business anymore.

I'll give two stars rather than one because I wasn't miserable, but a lot went wrong. I order the premium sushi plate, a water, and the local craft beer, from Made West. They were out of both Made West beers, so I ordered a Sculpin instead. Not a big deal. Sushi chef hands me a bento box, but i notice it has a salad, four pieces of a spicy tuna roll, some rice, vegetable tempura, and only four pieces of nigiri, so I know it's wrong. I tell them it's okay and that I'll just eat this. They apologized and said they will make me the remaining sushi and not charge me extra. They bring me more sushi, but it's missing the tamago and clam, but has four more pieces of the spicy tuna roll.

The worst part of the experience was th as t the sushi was not fresh. The service was not attentive. I ordered a water, but it didn't come for 30 minutes. It took forever to get my check even though it wasn't busy. Every table there got told at least once that they don't have something that they ordered.

The restaurant was quaint and located near the beach, but it was not the experience I was...

Upon walking in I was greeted immediately ( it's fairly small inside ) but the sushi bar has a lot of seating.

I've had a lot from here. But as others have said and still stands true. The avocado bomb here is famous and a well known. You truly can't go wrong with ordering this.

I've had plenty of their sushi and kitchen items. Some of my favorites are the soft shell crab, salmon tartar and well of course.. I already said it, avocado bomb.

The fish is fresh. Never had a bad experience with their food here. The staff is very nice and welcoming. There is nice outside seating and plenty of parking ( lot right across the street )

So why 4 stars instead of 5? Well.. the inside is rather outdated. A bit of "design" clutter that isn't needed. Other then that? you can't go wrong here. You'll enjoy their sushi and the atmosphere. This is by far the GO TO sushi...
