Stayed Labor Day weekend. I still have tonight to stay, unfortunately. The reason the room was an inferno (79 degrees on the thermostat was as high as it will read), was because the AC wasn't working. As it turns out, the individual rooms don't have actual AC, just fans. This is from management. "Sometimes the rooms get hot. It'll cool down at night." Spoiler, it didn't. "The rooms get warm due to the metal pipes in the walls with hot water." Sure they do. We got in late on Friday and slept poorly due to the heat. When we went to complain there was the super sweaty dude in front of us. Turns out his AC was not working either and the engineer was late to fix his room. Maybe don't stay here the end of Aug?
The next day they moved us to a different room. When we walked in the air was set at 65 degrees but the room was saying 71. We turned the fan on and went to the bar to let it cool down. We got back and it was 72 degrees. After another 30 min it went back to 71 and has leveled out. I'm dubious but too high and drunk to drive elsewhere, so I'm stuck.
My GF convinced me to stay anyway as it probably was going to get cooler after dark. She's a shrewd negotiator and got them to comp us parking, make both night's stay at the cheaper rate, and give me 10K Bonvoy points. I was so frustrated that I wasn't present for the discussion, which was best for everyone involved. I hate being gaslit and lied to.
Bar was poorly staffed but the bartender was friendly. No free wi-fi. What year is it? The parking situation is a clown show. No free parking. Not even to check in. Double parked at the entrance was the only option. This isn't downtown LA or SF. This is Ventura County, WTH. Parking pass locked me out the first time I left and came back. The excuse for this is that it happens sometimes.
The hotel is well appointed, the rooms were clean, and the location was outstanding. Close to the beach, restaurants, and shopping. Overly pricey, no freebies, poorly staffed, staff told us some outrageously stupid things. Meh.
No microwave in the room. When my GF called down, she was told that microwaves are a fire hazard and that there was one in the lobby she could use. Then the receptionist hung up on her. So, all the other Marriott properties in CA must be unsafe, because they all had microwaves. If you own a microwave, you've been warned. They are fire hazards.
Overall, this is a one time stay. Once bitten, blah blah. I now know to call ahead to other Marriotts I may stay at in the future to see if there are microwaves in the room or if they have AC....

Hello.
Although the actual rooms, amenities and comfort was very good and above my expectations; the greatest issue I had was the logistics and sheer frustration on getting any of reservation details correct with the Hotel staff.
I had originally called to make a reservation for a work trip. I was creating the reservation under one name, but two separate rooms. During the call, the representative was very helpful and assured the two rooms have been set up and I will receive a confirmation email. I never received the email so I called back and the representative had to update the directions I had detailed earlier a second time, and then soon after I received my reservation info via email.
The day of the check-in, I met with a friendly staff member that helped me check-in. I relayed the same directions (that I had reserved for two rooms, two different parties will check-in, and all on my credit card), and she assured me the details were all there. The only importance I'm making is because the other party checking in later that evening was my manager and I wanted the process to be as smooth and trouble free as I could make it for them. Late that same evening, I received a call from my manager confirming that they had given them the keys to MY room during the check-in and was standing outside my door. Fortunately, the keys were not functioning and had to call me to fix the problem.
Full of confusion, I went back downstairs to the front desk with my manager and the hotel staff had told me, they incorrectly had only split the cost of the room, accepted their credit card, and did not provide her the second room I reserved two days prior.
20% of the experience was pleasant, the other 80% was in my opinion a complete blunder on the Hotel staff to follow I had hoped good directions from me; and in the process had made me look very unreliable to my manager.
**During our check-in, I had asked the hotel staff to increase our stay for one extra night, pending our meetings will extend past the regular check-out time. I was assured this was okay, and swiped my credit card to extend both rooms. On the day prior to our check-out, both my manager and I had received calls from the front desk that we have exceeded our check-out time of 12:00pm noon, even though we had confirmed check-out for the next day!
Unfortunately, I will never recommend staying at the Ventura Beach Marriot to any other work associates for...
Read moreI recently stayed at this hotel for an annual conference I attend (5 days/4 nights). Typically this hotel is charming, even though it's quite basic. This most recent stay was VERY disappointing. We were over 300 attendees at the conference, yet the construction hindered the ease and comfort that I typically associate with the property. The downstairs restrooms off the lobby were closed due to construction. So, in between conference sessions, attendees could ONLY use the upstairs restrooms.
Many of us stayed in this hotel (I believe the hotel was at capacity) yet only ONE set of elevators were functioning. While many of us were capable of taking the stairs, there was no signage (even temporary signage) directing us to the proper doors inside the stairwells. Access to the rooms was only available through the courtyard, where typically one could run from a conference session up the stairs off of the conference level to the 3rd floor, to their room to use the restrooms.
In addition to there only being one elevator, it was the same elevator that housekeeping & maintenance had to use. Often, their large carts and bins were in the way to get to the elevator. I will say that the staff was VERY FRIENDLY! They were just trying to do their jobs, and us attendees were understanding and respectful (I certainly was, and I hope my colleagues were too). But the hotel knew of our upcoming arrival, and didn't seem to make many (if any) accommodations to our large group in light of this construction.
The construction noise and dust was disruptive during many of the conference sessions, and in fact, the construction dust had set off the fire alarm at 2:50am one night. If I'm going to be woken up by a fire alarm in the middle of the night, I'd hope that there was actually a fire. I overheard some of the workers saying that they would go disable the alarm in the construction wing so it didn't get set off again...um...what if there was REALLY a fire??
Overall, very very disappointed with my stay. The hotel staff didn't even offer any compensation or even a token for the inconvenience (hey, maybe just make the water in the hotel rooms free, or give us a voucher for a free coffee or $5 off at the bar). Anything would have been welcome if the management showed their appreciation for our repeat business at their hotel. I know for a fact that our group (even if they don't stay at this property, they certainly buy food & beverages there) spend a lot...
