This hotel is definitely a bit over priced for what you get. When staying at a hotel with this name and this price point I expect something better. The bathrooms are absolutely tiny. There's literally only room to turn around in front of the toilet once the door is closed. The tub was incredibly shallow and would even be small for kids to use. The room we were in the bathroom was in need of repair, the shower had a soap holder that was hanging out of the wall and had been pulled out on its screws. We paid extra for a room with a view yet the way the room was set up if you were sitting in the chairs they provided then your back was to the view. I'd actually like to SEE the view from the room, that's why I paid for it! The internet is not high speed, you can pay an additional $5 a day to get that. No free breakfast, their breakfast buffet is an additional $14.95 per person and is just a hair better than what you'd get at most hotels that offer a free breakfast. There were made to order omelettes available and a nice spread of fresh cut fruits, some olives, cheese and salami that is not typically found on a free breakfast. The AC unit in the room is also incredibly loud. The pool isn't heated which made it hard to enjoy after a full day of exploring downtown Waco. If I had to do it over again I think we would have stayed at a hotel a little further from downtown, parked in a free lot and then used the free trolley every day rather than pay extra to be downtown but with fewer amenities that most hotel chains offer for free. Being downtown was nice but ultimately I don't know that it was worth the price we paid. Oh and no microwave in the rooms, you'd have to use the one in the little shop in the lobby. That didn't bother us too much but I know that's a problem for many people. It would have been nice to have in our room so we could have taken back leftovers from dinner for later and popped a bag of popcorn to enjoy while watching a movie without needing to...
Read moreStayed here while in town for a conference which was right next door in the Waco Convention Center. It's just a short 30 second walk from the hotel to the convention center outside under a covered walkway, which is very convenient. I stay at Hiltons very regularly for work and this property was better than I expected when visiting a smaller city. Waco is growing, but it's still really more of a small Texas town (which isn't a bad thing). The hotel is also located pretty close to most of what's going on in downtown Waco with plenty of restaurants, including the Silos, and bars within walking distance.
The property itself is well maintained and looks as if it's had a fairly recent updating. The lobby area has a restaurant and bar, but I chose not to eat at either. There is a small little "store" near the front desk that offers drinks, snacks, and a few travel essentials if you forgot something. The staff at the front desk was friendly and helpful.
The room was pretty small, I stayed in a single king on the sixth floor, but it was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was very small without much room to manuever around, but it had good water pressure (something any seasoned traveler will tell you is not always a given) and was clean. The rest of the room was typical of what you'd expect (mini fridge, coffee maker, large flat screen, desk, small couch, etc) and the bed was comfortable. They only had down pillows, which I like, but I usually like at least one pillow that has some stability as well. My biggest complaint about the room was the noise level. The mini fridge and the in-room air conditioning unit (no central air) were both loud, and the walls, window, and door weren't great at keeping out noise. And there was a good bit of it with trains going by in the middle of the night, guests coming and going, housekeeping, etc.
Overall, this is a decent property for the price and one to consider if you're staying in...
Read moreOnly giving a 2 star because of location. I normally do not write reviews but feel compelled since with the popularity of Magnolia Market some may choose this hotel because of location and be very disappointed. First we arrived at 11am and were told we would be sent a text when our room was ready, 4pm came and went with no text. We had a concierge Level room booked and that was still not available so we were placed on another floor with concierge access. However, DO NOT spend the extra for concierge, the lounge was filthy. There was food all over the floor and the counters looked like no one had wiped them in days. The small frig was half stocked, the choices of snacks were broken animal cookies, cheese nips and gummie bears. The selection of food from 5-7pm was cheese cubes and meatballs. To say the least, it was a complete waste of money. Drawers were broken in the room and the front of the drawer fell in the floor when I attempted to open it. There were 2 towels for a room with 2 queen beds??? We went to the pool at 5pm and there were no pool towels available. I contacted the front desk and that assured me someone would bring some "right away". Well 45 minutes later, there were still no pool towels and we had to share one of the two towels we had in our room. Housekeeping is most certainly an issue, dirty linen was left in the hallways until at least 10pm, which was the last time we were in the hallway. We always stay Hilton or Marriott, I have to say I regret not staying in the Marriott 2 blocks away (and closer to Magnolia Market) and this last stay will most likely make my choice Marriott whenever we have a...
