This was like staying in Bates Motel in Walhalla, South Carolina. I booked this room because I was picking my mother up at the state park from a week long backpacking trip. It was the closest to the mtn and I knew she wanted to shower immediately. Little did I know that was all we were going to do before leaving. When checking in, there were two signs on the door mandating masks but the man checking me in was not wearing one despite touching face before handing me paperwork to sign and the key card. I asked about different room accommodations and he said It was all they had. I asked about this because of the guest with a garage sale amount of junk strewn through the parking lot. Little did I know that the room I was in was the one between that guest and the check in driveway; despite the backlot of the hotel with the additional rooms being empty. When we got in the room it was sticky and musty as the A/C was off. It was a tiny room no bigger than 15x15 including the bathroom. You barely get in the room before running into the king size bed. I needed to use the bathroom and when I sat down, the toilet shift and hit the wall from not being secure to the floor. I looked up and all the walls had mold, partially filled holes, drill holes, caulking drippings and what looked like splattered dried blood on the the ceiling. When my mother was in the shower, she exclaimed “WE ARE NOT STAYING HERE”. The wall that soap holder was the same to the guest next door and was missing all the hardware from it, as well as a brick sticking out from the wall with a clear gap in the caulking. When drying off in the bedroom, my mother stepped on a handtowel, when she picked it up, the side the floor was on was covered in orange like dirt. The electrical outlet was sticking so far from the wall that you could see the back of the casing. There was a finger sized gap in the door which was not assuring considering the surroundings. I get that the hotel is a two star hotel; it’s not the ritz but it was like a horror movie set or a room you would see in a documentary of call girl addicts working out of motel rooms. Had the room been clean, it was would been a great deal but it was not. Instead it was the most expensive shower my mother has ever taken.

We stayed for 1 night & I was glad that's all we had booked. This is a older motel. The room smelled clean upon entry, there were no bugs. & the bed was firm & comfy, but because it was rundown, I did check the bed for bedbugs. Thankfully there were none. My complaint is the 2 drunks & their huge dog, that were in the room next door. Because of the lack of insulation I guess, we could hear every word they said because they hung out right outside their room. The dog didn't bark or anything, it was the drunk talking to & yelling for him. Then the man & woman fought w/ each other. That was from about an HR after we arrived till about 2-3 a.m. So we needed up getting about 4 hrs rest. The bathroom only had a single stand up shower, no tub. & there was no place in the shower to put your shampoo & such. There was no other place in the bathroom to set anything on so we ended up setting it on the floor. No place to set or hang clothes either. That was the just of our stay. Next time i'll pick somewhere better.

My boyfriend and I stayed here, because we had stayed here before and they were really nice and accommodating. Not this time. The older gentleman that had checked me in also checked me out and had inspected the room before we left. My boyfriend and I travel a lot and we stay in a lot of hotels and we have NEVER been accused of smoking in any rooms at any hotel or resort we’ve stayed in and a lot of places now have the sensor that alerts security someone is “smoking” in their room. We were accused of smoking marajuana in the room when we hadn’t smoked ANYTHING. The older man tried to keep my deposit and I had to literally try to explain to him we hadn’t done it. He got mad at my boyfriend for swearing at him and I was really nice and apologized to him for that and explained that he was upset to be accused of something we didn’t do. He said the room smelled of it really bad and it honestly did not. We were given my deposit back but were told we aren’t allowed to come back and rent anymore.

I didn’t make any complaints about anything during my stay there even when an older man on the other side would holler out for me or thee gentleman next to us kept having various visitors through the day and mostly at night. Out of all the shady stuff we had seen we minded our own business and went straight to our room and WE were the ones who got accused of something we hadn’t done and banned.

To add to that the heating and cooling window units are horrible. The few times we’ve stayed there they wouldn’t work right. The AC wouldn’t cut on and I had to bring management to come look at it the first times we stayed when it was warmer and they fixed it but it was cold and the heat did not work. I had to keep working with the unit to get it to work right and when I did it was okay until you woke up and it’s just as cold as it is outside.

Other than that the room wasn’t bad for the price and location. Just a lot of shady stuff does go on around there especially during the night hours and we’ve noticed it the few times we’ve stayed. So just be mindful of that if you book a room here.

The smoking thing is just what we experienced. It sucks that that happened and we won’t be back even if we could. I was nice and honest about not smoking in the room and was mistreated. Like I had said we do travel a lot and we NEVER have smoked in any rooms we’ve ever stayed in and for this to happen to us was...
