I want to start off by saying how incredible the staff was. First, we were told that it’s best to call on the day of if we needed to check in early because we had an engagement to attend to and we needed to show up to the hotel way before check in time. They were upfront in telling us unfortunately we are fully booked and we can’t make any promises but check back with us when you guys show up. They definitely came through! Check in was supposed to be at 3am, but we ended up getting to the hotel at 10am and we need to be somewhere by 2pm and they had a room available for us immediately. We were able to check into our rooms and without any issues and it was wonderful! Also, it was very important that we checked in because we did bring a cat and let me tell you the staff was remarkable because when we had our cat, the rule is that you need to be in your room when cleaning is occurring but when I tell you, they were not only friendly and respectful they Definitely showed up when you needed them. They were very attentive during the rest of our stay for us being there for a week. We did bring our cat to my parents room so that they can clean and have some privacy to clean. They were so kind and so respectful, and I have so much good things to say for the lady that was cleaning our room. They showed up when we called them first thing in the morning so that they’re able to clean our room and not have to wait forever since we had a cat in our room. When it comes to location, this place Is the perfect! We walked 10 minutes to one museum and then after being in the museum, we ended up being let out from the back which led us to another museum that was actually 20 minutes walking from the hotel. But if we had gone back into that museum, we would’ve been 10 minutes if we were let out from the front. There are many museums that you can walk to from the hotel without feeling like it was a lot. Yes you do need to take train or cars for other museums that are bit further out, but that’s the least of your problems. I thought it was in a perfect spot and you got to explore so much. The restaurants in the hotel yes they are not included in your bill so yes, you do have to pay for them like any other restaurant when you get the bill, but the food was good. The only recommendation I would say for the breakfast part is order from the menu I think the buffet was OK tasting wise, but The breakfast from the menu itself was way better tasting than the buffet. I loved the dinner restaurant. it was awesome. The ribs were phenomenal. The pasta I had also was also great. The staff was remarkable the very attentive and the perk about being there is that they have a bar and you’re allowed to bring your cups drinks whatever to your room I’m sure they’re not gonna allow people who come in from the outside to be let out with alcohol, but if you’re staying there you’re allowed to bring your alcohol to your room. Outside people do come in for the restaurants, which is also a good popularity on the hotels part but also don’t worry they cannot go into peoples rooms because you need a your room key to use the elevator. What I do like is that they do have a public garage that is open to the public, but it’s also leads right into the hotel lobby, which is perfect so you don’t have to walk outside just to get to the parking garage. I want to add there are other outside restaurants, and food places that you can go so a Starbucks is also attached to the hotel which is another perk. The beds weren’t the best unfortunately I wish they were a bit more comfortable but I gave this place a five star because the staff the food, the location The cleanliness of the hotel was by far so good that it kinda entice me to give you guys five stars I just wish the beds were better. There are some maintenance cosmetic stuff that do need to be attended to, but it wasn’t so much of an eyesore, and it was easily forgettable , that being said out of all the hotels that I’ve looked on this site I picked this one as my option solely because the comments were so positive and better than other hotels that were reviewed. I would definitely recommend this place. I will stay here again. I will bring my pet again my cat really love the space really love the people. She’s a friendly cat overall so I was so happy that she was very comfortable and accommodated. You won’t regret...
Read moreI write this review whilst I am staying at the Holiday Inn Washington Capitol. I am well travelled and have not stayed in a hotel as quite as depressing as this one for many years. ||The general feel of the hotel and room is old, tired and tatty around the edges. I am not quite sure where to start, but will give it a go. ||The bedroom and adjacent room:|I have quite a large room with a separate kind of lounge area with a small fridge, sink and microwave. I have included some photographs. There is a small couch and chair and TV. The furniture is plastic covered and just look a bit dirty and nothing I would like to sit on. ||Both rooms have an old fashioned looking floor mounted air conditioning unit. Unfortunately I can’t reasonably include a sound recording, but when running they sound like the thrumming of a car inside your room. Absolutely impossible to get any sleep when they are on, and the bedroom has been set at 68 F for hours and the room temperature has failed to reduce not 1 degree F. ||The carpets are stained and very worn, looking past there sell by date. The decor is brown, but again looking very tired, with the bedroom door having damage on it with a small hole. The walls have dust and a few cobwebs on them for good measure. It also just does not feel very clean in parts. ||The bed was quite comfortable though, which is a saving grace. No USB charging sockets though. ||Bathroom:|The bathroom counter top and taps look like they have been replaced more recently, and the shower taps, etc. The bathroom is fit for purpose but the towels feel and look like you could shoot peas through them, feeling extremely well used. There is at least soap dispensers though. ||Breakfast:|The buffet breakfast is $28.00 and offers the usual options, of cold and hot food. I tried an omelette which was cooked to order. That was fine, but one issue is that the cooking station is on a moveable trolley of some type and there is no extractor fan above it ( or at least if there was it was not working !). So if you sit around that area, you come away smelling of the cooking oil and food, which is really unpleasant. I want to eat my food nor smell like it. I suggest you asked to be seated away from the cooking area if it bothers you. ||Coffee, service, etc was fine, but I wish the waitress staff wouldn’t then remove the used dirty cutlery and place it back on the table for you to reuse if you want something else. It is rather unhygienic and no doubt you are then maybe touching the table where someone else’s cutlery may have been. Not nice. Management, just replace the cutlery after use or provide an area where guests can select fresh ones if they require. ||As I write this the fire alarm has just sounded for a while but stopped now ! ……….||Room service: arriving late, around midnight due to flight delays, I was hoping for room service. Well there isn’t one available. ||Location: From Ronald Reagon airport, it is a short cab ride away, which is positive. Also a short walk to government buildings, so also ideal. ||General hotel: The general areas feel tired and need of some refreshening. The lift is unreliable, some tomes reading your room that is required to select your floor, and sometimes not. Several people that have clearly been here a while have got used to having to try several times to get the thing to work. ||The entrance foyer has a small food market next to it, stocking crisps and some drink options. Pretty limited and certainly if you arrive after the restaurants close at 10pm, there is not much appetising to select from. ||As you can tell, I can’t wait to check out tomorrow and am relieved it’s only 2 nights. ||The reason for my main dissatisfaction though is the cost, at $400 per night. If it was $150 I could understand the state of the hotel, and would be much more understanding, but not at that price. ||Personally I would look to stay perhaps a bit further out of the centre at a nicer hotel and just get cabs or use the metro next time. Some you win, some you loose and this is the...
Read moreWe arrived around 4 pm, ready to check in. A gentleman named Lu was working the desk, and he was very nice and friendly. I wish we had seen him again, as our experience took a sharp turn once we got to the room. Unbelievably hot and stuffy doesn’t even begin to describe our top-floor corner room. So, we call the desk, and maintenance comes up. According to the technician, the AC hadn’t been set to “occupied,” but assured us he had fixed it and the room would cool down. He left, and we naively believed it would get better. At this point, we started a song and dance of trying to get the air to stay on, because it would cool to around 69 degrees (Fahrenheit) and then turn off. We were pretty tired from the travel, so we did our best to ignore it. I awoke in a sweat around midnight, as the AC had cut off (due to no movement activity detected in the room, a cost-cutting measure). I went to the desk to ask for help, and they offered to send maintenance back up. The man came up and explained that, yes, the AC was intentionally set to not cool below 69.5 Fahrenheit, and was set to not constantly blow, even on a fan setting. They managed to scrounge up a small desk fan, and offered their condolences. The technician even told us we weren’t the first people to complain. Keep in mind, we paid $500+ for two nights during this early August stay. Being a savvy traveler, I knew there was probably a way to bypass the security on the thermostat to get a cooler temp. I looked at the product manual, tried the suggested steps, and was met with a password, another level of security meant to keep me from being comfortable in my room, and to save this multi-million grossing hotel a few bucks. Frustrated and sweaty, I went back to sleep. The next morning I called the desk, asking only about housekeeping practices. I did not make further complaints about the heat, but I wanted to know if housekeeping was daily (some properties are every other day), and if we could get a couple more bottles of water. The woman on the phone called me a man, then curtly informed me housekeeping was daily, but they don’t “just give more water for free,” which was astounding to me. I have stayed in hotels around the country and never have been denied a couple bottles of water, especially this cheap, store-brand bottle we got. We had loud neighbors beside us the whole time, and the worst of it all? The hotel’s AC in the hallway outside our room was blowing cold, strong air all night long, as if to taunt us with the refreshment we so desperately sought. This was supposed to be a fun trip for my girlfriend’s birthday, and all the time we spent at the hotel (which I assure you, was as little as possible), was miserable. Our tv would even get stuck on certain images, leaving it practically unwatchable (save for one or two channels). I’ve never had a worse experience at a hotel of this caliber, but I’ve had plenty of better ones at cheaper hotels. Avoid this one if you’re coming in the summer; they’d much rather save a few dollars on electricity costs than do anything to...
