Gorgeous!! Simply gorgeous! When visiting Williamsburg, this will be the first place I check for vacancy!! I went down for a quiet weekend shopping trip and I couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. I've been to other inns, B&Bs, hotels, but this the ultimate for my taste! I hesitate leaving such a rave review because I want to keep this spot to myself! But, my Yelp duty calls!!
The owner of this spectacular Victorian inn, Rhys, was accommodating, friendly and professional. From the first phone call for booking, to the confirmation emails, texts, and check out ease - there wasn't the slightest glitch. As I pulled up to the conveniently located inn, I had to catch my breath! This is an amazingly beautiful house! Parking in the back, and code access, I walked into a gleaming, elegantly appointed lobby and guest sitting room. Antiques and vintage rugs graced the rooms and hallways. Then upstairs, I walked into the Dickens suite which blew me away, the soft greys were calming, the chandelier and the furniture were lovely and the room was spotless. This suite had an adjoining room with two twin beds, in addition to the Queen bed in the main bedroom. The bathroom was welcoming and impeccably decorated, with luxurious toiletries, a nice pressurized shower, and thick cozy towels. I was in heaven!
One morning, I left my car and walked a couple short blocks to Merchants Square and spent the morning shopping and visiting restaurants and stores. The owner also displays various menus from nearby restaurants for your culinary pleasure! It was a relaxing and inspiring stay every step of the way!
For the price, beauty, comfort, friendliness and convenience, the Armistead House will truly be my home...
Read moreThis house is conveniently close to historic Williamsburg, in a quiet part of town. I was able to walk downtown in little time. It was opened very recently and they went out of their way to accommodate me and make my stay comfortable. The theme is Victorian rather than Colonial; I stayed in a comfortable two-room suite and was able to get work done in my private living room. Of course since it's a Victorian house there's no real sound-proofing, but in general the other guests were quiet.
I'd prefer to have someone present downstairs and have the door open; one enters a code to get into the front door and into the room, so it's not a very social experience. I guess I was hoping for more of a B&B experience where one has an opportunity to connect with the hosts and other guests. There is a Keurig machine for coffee, hot chocolate, and hot water for tea downstairs, but no option for meals or snacks. It's like an AirBnB.

Read moreI stayed at the Armistead House, a Victorian inn with a fascinating history. It was a great experience, from booking to checking out. Rhys, the manager, is kind, accommodating, and excellent at communicating. I like that it was self-check-in/out, using coded locks. The interior design was pretty and faithful to the period.
Most importantly, the interior was airy and clean, especially my room, and the exterior grounds are impressive -- demonstrating they take great pride in the property. In addition, the location is perfect. It is within walking distance of the historic town center, with many restaurants, coffee options, and specialty shops.
My one note of feedback -- given the cost and caliber of the inn, I wish they had bottled water for guests as a courtesy in the rooms. They had water in an open pitcher downstairs, but given post-COVID times and more, you don't know the source of the water, and it's exposed in...
