Yummy freshly baked cookies and a small choice of beverages. The bakery is located behind the reproduction of the historic tavern where the intellect and wealthy planned their separation from King George III. It's in the heart of the restored area on Duke of Gloucester and an absolute must visit. The bakery is a hidden treasure so follow your hunger and thirst pains to this historic watering hole. Try one of each homemade cookies. Though the presentation isn't authentic the taste approximates it!!

The bakery was hyped by my parents who wanted me to pick them up a dozen ginger cookies. The cookies weren't fresh and $22 for a dozen is pricey. We had salad and sandwiches for lunch. Extremely expensive for a sandwich you can make at home for a dollar and not as good. I did enjoy the local beer. It was herbal and extremely delicious. We were able to find a picnic table out back. Lots of yellow jackets landing on us and our food. I'd recommend eating at the market shops instead.

The fresh gingerbread cost is 3 for $4! It was delicious and hot with just a touch of crust on it. Oh to die for! The well dressed baker was kind and virtuous. Because it was Christmas time you can get a “fat man” ginger bread man cake which is also delicious. A ten percent discount is added for patriot pass or military. They offered breads and other cookies but we left with a huge bag of gingerbread!

The Raleigh Tavern Bakery used to be a highlight to my visit at Colonial Williamsburg. Treats depictinf historial flavors such as sweet potato muffins, Shrewsbury cookies, apple pasties, and apple cake used to line the shelves. In the past decade, more modern sandwiches and grab-n-go savory offerings have been incorporated among these delights. I enjoyed the modernization and alignment with historical food, even though the Shrewsbury cookies had become generic sugar cookies.

However, my most recent visit this past week left me saddened. The apple cider was watered down; the commercialized cookies were stale; and the new muffins were tasteless and bland. The Chownings loaf was unbearably sweet. Most disheartening was that the pretzel rolls, apple turnovers (pasties), and apple cake were discontinued.

I strongly recommend the operators to reconsider the baked goods offered at the Bakeshop. Of anything, please continue providing the Queens cake, ginger cakes, and Sally Lunn breads as the delectable pastries they are...

This place is amazing - make sure you drop by to get a cookie and hot cider! The refillable mugs are a good deal if you plan on staying for more than a day or two, so pick one of them up as well. The hot cider will warm you as you walk down DOG street during the colder months, and bring back pleasant childhood memories, all while giving you that jolt of energy so desperately needed! I was pleasantly surprised to see the same gentleman baking cookies that was there 3 years prior - he thanked me for continuing to patronize Colonial Williamsburg, and I told him how much we enjoy visiting...

Disappointing experience. There is little choice for breakfast /lunch at the Capitol end of Williamsburg but something from a Bakery sounds great. But in fact all they have are a few muffins and cookies, a small choice of pre packaged sandwich rolls like you get in a gas station and coffee from a dispenser. And all so expensive for what little it is. The courtyard out back is a pleasant enough location to eat, but the food and. Offer options could be so much better - just see how very much better the coffee shops in and near Merchant Square are at the other...
