Tucked gracefully within the storied landscape of Colonial Williamsburg, the Aldrich House Bed & Breakfast offers more than lodging—it offers a rarefied experience that elegantly straddles the line between history and hospitality. This distinguished inn, masterfully stewarded by its warm and gracious owners, feels less like a commercial enterprise and more like a cherished family heirloom—rich in narrative and authenticity.
The house itself is a gem: beautifully preserved, tastefully adorned with historical artwork, and imbued with a palpable sense of place. Every room is spacious, thoughtfully arranged, and accented with period touches that speak to the home’s architectural lineage. The inclusion of private baths adds modern convenience without disrupting the home’s antique charm. It’s a masterclass in preserving the past while still attending to the needs of present-day guests.
The owners’ attention to detail is evident in every corner of the property—from the curated decor to the homemade breakfasts that begin each day with both warmth and finesse. These meals are not simply prepared; they are crafted, and delivered with the kind of personal care and culinary pride that elevates the entire stay.
What truly distinguishes the Aldrich House, however, is its soul. There’s an authenticity here that transcends even its historical trappings—an atmosphere cultivated by hosts who clearly understand not just the mechanics of hospitality, but the artistry of it. You are not merely staying in a historic home; you are inhabiting a living story, one chapter of which you get to write yourself.
Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a romantic traveler, or simply someone who appreciates grace and gentility, this bed and breakfast is a treasure. I cannot recommend it highly enough—it is Williamsburg at its finest: intimate, insightful, and...
Read moreMy family has stayed at the Aldrich House B&B - Tom and Sue Patton's home - for over 10 years. They are warm and welcoming hosts who make every effort to accommodate travelers' needs. As long-time residents, they are also especially knowledgeable about the Williamsburg-Jamestown-Yorktown area. Tom worked for Historic Jamestown in years past and is currently writing an historical novel about the area. Their home is a comfortable, smaller B&B located less than a 5-minute walk from Colonial Williamsburg. It features 3 guest rooms, as well as lovely common areas for lounging, reading, and meeting fellow travelers. Because we usually travel with our adult daughter, we stay in the spacious Anderson Room on the second floor, which features two king beds, a large chest of drawers, a clothes closet, a writing desk, two comfortable wing chairs, a large bench, and a private bath with a shower/tub combination. It's a great place to relax after a day of walking through the Historic District. Members of my family have also stayed in the other two rooms and found both of them to be very comfortable. This is a B&B that lets guests choose their level of sociability. The rooms offer privacy and are great places to put one's feet up and relax. If feeling sociable, the spacious living room at the back of the house is a lovely place to congregate while waiting for breakfast or just to share conversations with other guests. The last two times we have stayed there, we met European travelers - a couple from England and one from Italy. With only three guest rooms and a limited number of guests, it's easy to fall into interesting conversations. The best thing I can say about the Aldrich House is that it's our home away from home while in Williamsburg. We never fail to come home - relaxed and refreshed - and ready to plan...
Read moreWe thoroughly enjoyed our 2 week stay at Aldrich House B&B. It is conveniently located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, but within walking distance of Colonial Williamsburg (~20 mins to the centre). We walked into Williamsburg several times and enjoyed looking around the historic sites, as well as the shops, café, bars, market and a car show. Nearby there are also nice restaurants - we particularly liked 2nd Street Bistro, which is just a couple of minutes walk away from the B&B. We found the location of the property to be very convenient.||||Our room (the Anderson room) was very clean and spacious and we had a very comfortable stay. Aldrich House is a beautiful and tastefully decorated property.||||We especially enjoyed the breakfasts, which were generous and often we didn't need lunch! They were served by Tom at the family dining table, which was a nice way to get to know other guests and also to sit down and chat to Tom. The breakfasts were varied each day between French toast, pancakes, waffles, crepes and sausage and biscuits, served with an egg dish and sausage or bacon and fruit. We enjoyed sampling the different American breakfasts. ||||Tom is very knowledgeable about the history of the area and we found it facinating to talk to him and learn all about the local history. I also learnt quite a bit about our English history at the same time! We found him to be a wealth of knowledge about what there was to do in the area and enjoyed all of his recommendations.||||We really enjoyed our stay with Tom and Sue and felt that staying at Aldrich House added to our holiday /...
