Beautiful park, nice professional staff- except one. If I may elaborate on our experience: My wife and I travel quite often from the North when we can and are passionate nature lovers. For leisure I am a 9 year photographer and my wife an editor/blogger/vlogger. Over the past few weeks there has been a park staff by the name of "al" who has been circling around our vehicle staring in an unfriendly manner, looking in following us around the park. One incident as my wife was headed to the facilities he has blocked the entrance as if he was attempting to clean it, but lingered outside staring angrily not saying a word. On our last 2 visits he did his regular circle around the vehicle and stare of anger and said "your're not from around here-you don't belong here" I replied excuse me sir? Again he said: " you don't belong around here adding I'm watching you there are cameras everywhere" I said: we actually appreciate the safety feature of security cameras, but what exactly am I doing wrong? Then he finally said "you can't park here". We moved and parked elsewhere, but his demeanor remained the same as usual. The last time he acted the same with the anger stares and circling and says you can't camp here, you don't belong here." I replied I am not camping today, just taking pictures like last time, what is the issue now? While I'm speaking to him he comes even closer to the vehicle as if he wants to stick his head inside then I ask him what is his name and the name of his boss and inform him I'm headed to the office to report him, , he tells me his name then says "ok I'll meet you over there." Keep in mind no matter where we park, even in the front, or if were nature walking taking pictures he acts the same- angry and bias. Other people have parked their vehicles or walked around the same areas, but did not receive the same treatment from al as we made sure to pay attention to this. Some people have bad days, but this is definitely not the case. We are a nice married couple, well dressed, nice vehicle just trying to enjoy the nature park like any other non-suspicious person. When reporting to the office we we're greeted professionally by the supervisor who explained park procedures, which we happily abide by, and listened intently to our complaint before we filed a report. We did express how all other staff are nice, professional, always easy to talk to willing to answer any questions we have, if we ask where we can park they always let us know in a courteous manner. We've even considered bringing our RV to the park for a couple of days, but now I'm concerned about a bias staff individual behaving irratically towards my wife and I in a bias manner. That one time wasn't about parking I feel it was an opportunity to tell a Native American they don't belong, the other silent incidents leading up to that and what was said made it clear. We keep our car windows down most of the time to enjoy the Florida weather when it's not raining and had our windows down whenever that particular staff had circled looking in our vehicle- whenever we were inside. When we nature walk of course we keep our vehicle locked. Which having our windows down made it extra uncomfortable when he would jeer. What is he trying to see? The tone of voice and choice use of ill words, so unprofessional. Yes this is the South, but still America where common courtesy should be mutual. I know that particular park staff has a personal problem against me that has nothing to do with me taking photos of nature or parking. I almost feel like forget it, but my wife reminds me we have an obligation to speak up and even if the park does nothing about it we have our technology to record any ill treatment anywhere and make a positive difference where strife may be. He's not going to run us away from the nature park. We'll be back and plan to enjoy every beautiful spec of green, every ray of sunshine, every wonderful animal-creature and expect not to be...
Read moreSo far this has been the worst campground I have ever been to in North America. My van broke down 1 mile from park in rain when i stopped for gas after 2500 miles and they would not let me tow it in even after i offered any amount of a deposit to convince them it would not be left disabled something had got wet . after pleading for mercy for a nights sleep i was told no and left in the rain for 6 hr then it dried out started and i came to park. the staff is quite unfriendly and unwilling to help in any way. the bathrooms are locked all the time you have to keep a code with you to go for a leek. the toilet paper is on roll holders that don't allow the rolls to roll so you have to flip the toilet paper in around itself they have a lock on the toilet paper larger than the one I lock my bike with in NYC there is a train whistle blows on the 15 minutes twice followed by two trains all day till midnight. Walking around the park at night I got stopped and asked for ID by the security guard and told id needed to be carried at all times remember to strap that to my left nut Staff is to lazy to clean garbage out of the wood line looks like dump site but walk around behind sites revving there weed eaters in the air the site was all mud The following day we had to change sites. i asked if there was a way we could set our stuff so we could go to the beach i received blank uncaring stares an told we needed to be at the site no later then 12 1230 it was 2 o'clock before the site to move to was cleared it rained during our wait and soaked a bunch of our stuff i set up a line to dry it off and was told to take it down so i did then i took 10 minutes to change a fan belt and was warned i could not do that . the new site was a lot better and dry park staff seam to think 8 am is a good time to go leaf blowing around the campsites. after 4 days the people i was with said they needed to come back next week for 4 days when they went to register they were told i could not return with them i am heart broken by this and might cry. Fortunately for the park manager and staff this your only choice in fort later dale for camping. So enjoy your stay and don't expect any compassion exceptions from these people as they have none they also will not very from there rules unless thay are to fault and if you want tight yet useless security that only in convinces you. this is the place for you. I'm glad to leave. There is a nice place in Jupiter. And nice...
Read moreThe park is good.... for motorhomes not for tent camping, especially if it rains.
Unbelievable close to the train tracks Also just behind the HWY, a lot noize at night. They know that, I told I was going to use a tent and reserve for 7 days before I saw the camping (I should Google satellite view 1st)
Mosquitos everywhere, (I know its FL, just be ready) especially they give me the spot closest to the river (only one available!? But I saw more empty sites) they cold offer, even if I have to change later.
1st night and I'm looking like I returned from the war and have not slept for a week. I was there for work and fun. Can't do anything because the lack of sleep.
The camping is not proper set up for tent camping, (especially in FL where it rains a lot, a sand or gravel box its necessary to elevate and drain the water from the floor of the tent, otherwise the tent will be in the mud/water for the entire time) I dont mind if I'm in the forest but not acceptable for $50 at night.
Car camping it's illegal! (Include your nice Toyota Sienna van) I don't think they know what a overland vehicle is. (I think they stop in time) THIS PARK its set up for RV's and it's great for that. Adventure camping, travelers, cycletourism, moto campers, go somewhere else, specially for $50 at night to set up the tent in the ground, in the mud, noise...
