If you're seeking a horror experience that you never signed up for, Days Inn by Wyndham Oakland might just be the place for you.
Our adventure began with the mythical shuttle service, a concept so foreign to this establishment that it took many calls (5 days, 2 days, 1 day, and again on the day of our arrival) and a 2-hour and 46-minute wait at the Fort Lauderdale Airport to witness its existence.
Arriving in a nondescript black van, the driver initially played a game of mistaken identity, claiming he was not our chauffeur nor associated with the Days Inn.
Upon arrival, the ambiance of the hotel was perfectly complemented by the night staff's lack of empathy—setting the tone for what was to become an unforgettable stay.
Our room, number 316, greeted us with an olfactory assault that triggered dizziness and nausea, bringing to mind unsettling aroma of cigarettes mingling with a toxic substance reminiscent of potent flea medication.
The decor was uniquely accented with dead and dying cockroaches of various sizes, making it feel more like a bug exhibit gone horribly wrong rather than a guest room.
The craftsmanship of the room was highlighted by the weather stripping around the door, generously leaving a half-inch gap for insects and possibly even small critters to partake in our misery.
Noise insulation was another feature the room lacked entirely, with the symphony of traffic, human chatter, and the occasional train providing a less than peaceful backdrop to our stay.
An added "attraction" was the presence of individuals outside the hotel, seemingly engaged in the world's oldest profession, seeking companionship for the evening.
The cleanliness (or the blatant lack thereof) was a theme consistent throughout the room. The bathroom and bathtub emitted odors that dared to compete with the already noxious smell permeating from the room.
An encounter with a dying roach near the toilet was the highlight of the room's amenities, along with a drain that took its sweet time clearing after a mere footwash—a regrettable necessity after walking barefoot on the room's dubious flooring.
Let's not gloss over the artistic smear of caked-on toothpaste adorning the vicinity of the sink, adding a personal touch of neglect to our experience. The complete sensory overload led to a dizzying and nauseating ordeal that lasted through the night.
Upon conveying our grievances to the morning staff, we were met with apologies and a refund of the resort fee—a gesture that, while appreciated, did little to erase the harrowing experience we endured. It was clear the staff are fighting a losing battle, soldiering on in a workplace that would best be described as a setting for a horror flick.
I must emphasize the disparity between the advertised online images and the grim reality we faced.
Paying $140 for a night at this establishment was tantamount to highway robbery, with neither value nor safety being delivered.
The Days Inn by Wyndham Oakland is a cautionary tale of misleading advertising and a stark reminder that some places might indeed be better...
Read moreTHE WORST hotel experience I have ever had. READ ALL OF THIS. I booked this hotel to stay in after my friends and I returned from the Bahamas. I specifically booked a non-smoking room because I have Reactive Airways Dysfunction Syndrome (so basically severely allergic to smoke).
The hotel room we were given upon arrival smelled like someone had been chain-smoking in there for years. When I talked to hotel staff I was greeted with very rude, careless attitudes about my situation. Since the hotel was booked up for the night, they could not switch me into another room. All they suggested was to "spray" the room, which consisted of a flower-smelling air freshener; they clearly had no understanding of my health problem.
When speaking with the manager, Ms. Damischa Griffin, I was patronized and talked down to. Griffin admitted, in a very casual, unapologetic manner, that since the 2nd floor is smoking rooms, the smoke travels up through the vents and into the "non-smoking" rooms on the 3rd floor. She did not seem to be worried at all that I had health concerns.
After 8 hours of breathing in second hand smoke, I woke up coughing up brown stuff and had lost my voice. Since I booked through Priceline, she could not refund me any money until I went through them first. She REFUSED to give me any documentation that proved there was a report of a problem, she also said she would not write a report to have on file because the issue "went through her" ; she apparently thinks her memory is sufficient enough to hold every record of reported problems at this dump of a hotel. I'm sure she just didn't want me to have proof if I decided to file a lawsuit, which I very well could've because of my condition after leaving and because she knowingly puts non-smoking guests in rooms that are polluted with smoke.
My first request for a refund through Priceline was denied because when they called Ms. Griffin she said that I was placed into a non-smoking room. I had to call again and when Priceline got in contact with her she FINALLY approved a refund of half of what I paid. When speaking with Priceline she tried to short-change me by giving less than half. I made Priceline call her again until she gave me the correct amount (Shoutout to Priceline for the help).
DO NOT STAY HERE! Most unprofessional staff I have EVER had to deal with. If i could give it less than 1 star, I would. Days Inn on Broward is...
Read moreThis hotel is horrible!!!!!!!!! I don't even want to give it one star but it wouldn't let me post without it. I came into town to see my husband who was working claims from the hurricane. I brought our dog with me because I did not want to leave him home by himself. My plan was to drop the dog off at my mom's house in Miami but I wanted to see my husband first. Understanding the pet policy, I did not get out of the car with the dog. I just sat in the car waiting for my husband to come outside. The security guard walks by, sees me sitting in my car and rudely tells me I can't sit in my car, I have to go in my room or leave. I was trying to explain to him that I was waiting for my husband to come down from his room but he cut me off and said, I'm not going to repeat myself. Mind you, there's people hanging around outside there rooms, in the parking lot, women trying to sell ass but nothing gets said to them. Instead he chose to bother me as I sat patiently waiting. I called the front desk and spoke with the lady at the front desk but it was obvious that she was not comprehending what I was saying. She kept telling me I couldn't take the dog in the room, which I already knew, and I couldn't sit in my car because of the loitering policy. I wasn't trying to hang out like the others were doing. I was simply trying to see my husband. I asked how could others hang out, sell drugs, prostitute in parking lot, make noise in the hallway and disturb others and nothing gets said to them???? Of course my question didn't get answered but that's ok, he checks out tomorrow to go to another hotel. Let's just say we won't be dealing with Day's Inn in the future. Oh and just to let you know, I left and dropped the dog off in Miami, almost an hour away. When I came back, the security guard was standing in front of the check-in building on his phone and those same individuals were still hanging out and making noise. It's obvious nothing was said to them. My husband has other complaints as well....dirty water coming from the faucets. I guess the pipes are rusty. The room was not cleaned daily, no fresh towels/washclothes daily, vending machines not working, security cameras working when they want to work, refrigerator in room leaks, parking lot dirty...the list goes on. This was just a horrible...
