I have a 2008 Toyota Prius, the second generation hybrid system introduced on the planet; and in many regards, the ultimate standard of hybrid systems until today.
Unfortunately, my car suffered the worst type of accident anyone can experience in South Florida. I was at a crossroads and rather than junk, sell my vehicle or purchase another car; I fixed it. It was worth the investment. It took a month before I would get it back and in the best condition possible, given the severity of the collision. However, it was not the parts that lacked cosmetically that concerned me; it was the integrity of the mechanical work done on the car. My decision haunted me and I did not want to rejoin society driving a vehicle that I was unsure of. I am talking about the entire suspension system being redone, including the K membrane of the car and several other key components, struts, sway bars, the front pillar welded back on the frame, suspension coils, you name it; the car had endured all these repairs.
I was actually looking for a decent mechanic to further repair my friend's car that had also undergone tremendous strain and, upon my search, I stumbled upon Vertical Automotive. It was kind of far but had tremendous press and several key certifications and accolades under its belt.
Finding a decent mechanic in South Florida or anywhere for that matter is difficult and I am a very gullible person thus how I ended up where I was at the time I found Vertical. I always give people the benefit of the doubt and I was excited to take my car there for a second opinion. There was only a rumbling sound upon speed bumps that gave me great concern.
Upon receiving my appointment, Vertical followed up via email and text like a doctor's office. I was treated warm and friendly, not cold and unimportant like some other shops. Reese is serious and super knowledgeable and comes across as a friendly character. He is impressively young to know so much about cars, but somehow dazzles you every time with his insight.
Vertical Automotive is very busy; they are the most thorough team you can get and that is why you have to get an appointment, because they are going to block some time for you that day, just like a doctor's office.
I arrived right at 8am sharp and walked hurriedly through the door, making sure I was in on time. Reese greeted me first and asked for all my information which they fill out on a digital database for you and your car.
I was then invited to their lounge, which is amazing and beyond words. They have refreshments, coffee, tea, soda pop, nuts, granola, all toppings for your coffee, water, flat screen smart tv at your bidding with Netflix and two long leather recliners for your comfort while you wait. Some folks are treated to a complimentary car wash when they are there all day and the rest is history as I took my seat and began working on my laptop while they fixed my car.
In about an hour and a half time, Laz came with his iPad and went through every single point of inspection they conducted on my vehicle. There must have been close to 60 items on the list they address, inspect, comment on and diagnose with measurements, descriptions, explanations and photographs. No one will ever do this for you in a mechanic shop. No one cares that much about doing that. These people want to make you part of their family and treat your car as if it was part of their collection they intend to maintain to the fullest.
It was an eye opening experience and how can you go anywhere else after something like that?

Read moreSo we called and asked them if they were busy and if they would take in our car no appointment. They said yeah ! Come around he said. So they told us by 12 we will have an answer. No answer we call at 4 they didn’t even look at the car. So we wait again and they said the sensor we needed was 220. We found the sensor for 30 and it’s a simple click off and click on. We still paid them to install it and guess what (took them less then ten mins to supposedly fix it) ... we left the shop with the car worst then it was before. It was jumping and engine light came on and the next day it didn’t start at all. So the guy offered for someone to pick it up and he couldn’t do that with out us both being late to work. So we called a few times no answer so i called on my cell, He answered and he was really bothered. I told him we needed another tow but he had no other tow. Fine, one of us stood behind, we got the car to the shop. We get a call in the middle of the day there’s ANOTHER sensor they didn’t get off of the half job they did the day before. $100 they wanted to charge. We got to the shop and supposedly their computer wasn’t working so they wanted cash. I was bothered honestly from the moment i got there because of the mission and we told the guy we don’t have cash and he started to get really nasty (can’t believe how that’s the owner). I stood there and just nodded my head because he was throwing computers and aggressively telling us if we don’t get cash we wont get the car. He thought my nodding was condescending so he got more mad and started to curse. I stormed out and let my bf handle us getting our car back. I never at one moment raised my voice or got nasty with my words but this guy was the most un classy person ever.
