For the price point, it's perfectly satisfactory, especially as an extended stay hotel. I stayed here from early June to mid-October. I had to switch rooms once due to a ceiling leakage in the bathroom. Apparently, this is common with new construction. The rooms were sufficiently cleaned upon check-in, but housekeeping misses basic things like the rim of the toilet (if you sit in the tub, you can see it and it's revolting, I would use Lysol wipes to try to clean it myself since I shouldn't have to buy a toilet brush when they're supposed to properly clean it), routinely, or sweeping the floors when there is visible debris like crumbs or hair. Forget wiping any surfaces down or cleaning the microwave. It's understandable that the guest would need to maintain a minimum standard of cleanliness themselves (since cleaning it biweekly), however the rate is twice as much as a studio apartment and one would expect a thorough cleaning since you're essentially paying for room and board plus a superficial cleaning every two weeks. I never had any issues with the staff, who were all polite, friendly and helpful. However, it took a month to get hot water (slightly warm tepid) in my shower bc the fixture was "locked" into place after installation, so if this happens to you just ask the handyman on staff to adjust it for you, bc I would just get an unknowing shrug after my first initial inquiry with the front desk. Think of this place more like a residential hotel building, the service reflects that. I had a white noise machine always running in my room, without that I would've heard every little noise as the hotel isn't very insulated and the walls are thin. You might get a room next to a vocal canine, the pet friendly policy is why a lot of guests stay here, just be mindful they're commonplace around here. The side door next to the dumpster, that's supposed to be accessible by key card only, is found to be ajar often which means the guest areas could be easily accessed by an outsider. With how many kids around, it's a shame there's not a playroom or designated place for them to have recreation (people live here, families stay here for long term stays). This means you might run into them throughout the facilities, including the workout room. They just have nowhere else to go outside of their studio apartment rooms.
From what I've observed the washing machines and dryers are never cleaned. The laundry room isn't well maintained. You absolutely need to pay with your phone which would be a challenge for some people (I'm thinking about the elderly for instance who might not even have a smart phone! Why not just have preloaded laundry cards? But that's how they decided to do it).
The Wi-Fi was down for nearly a week, maybe more, when I first arrived in June. I had to pay an extra $50 at least for extra mobile data for work. That was quite exasperating for everyone and took far too long to resolve with no compensation or courtesy extended thereafter. it is beyond frustrating to not have that essential amenity provided for especially when the rate includes rent and utilities. A lot of guests checked out prematurely during this whole debacle, but it's not like I had anywhere else to go and didn't want to downgrade to a sketchy motel nearby just bc the Wi-Fi temporarily went out. Fortunately, there wasn't an outage after that, but it is an unsecure network (which it really shouldn't be, protect your guests' privacy on your network PLEASE, it shouldn't be like plugging into Walmart's open wifi, a VPN is essential bc others can much more easily hack into your device on an open network, there are also frequent pop ups about other ppl's TV devices automatically requesting access to your phone if you use YouTube, if you accidentally agree, they can gain access to your YouTube account which is a problem, that can't be helped, just be mindful) and Wifi will lag when there are more guests at the hotel.
Sherry is a brilliant manager, but I think corporate isn't going to move heaven and earth for guest satisfaction. That's just...
Read moreAbsolutely Horrible. My wife and I booked a room at this hotel and I had to cancel an hour later, due to a unexpected family situation. Then we were told the situation was taken care of so we tried to make reservations and the Manager Sherry refused to allow that to happen. First Off I am a paying customer and a Diamond Member with Choice Hotels. This really bothered us because my wife has cancer and her Doctor and Hospital are close by. Sherry refused our reservation stating she wasn't sure she could trust us. Very troubling and hard to understand when so many guests are staying for free. We met several that told us Sherry allows them to stay and just pay when ever they can if they can, and that explained why so many were hanging out in their cars all night waiting for a free room. This situation is out of control when we simply wanted to pay for our room after being there close to 2 weeks, just didn't make sense to us. Things in life do come up and we were discriminated against, and embarrassed by the way she made us feel as we did something wrong when she is allowing half the hotel to stay for free. It's very unfair treatment and I would be little cautious dealing with this lady, you never know when she is going to turn on you, because it will happen. She knew my wife has cancer and she purposely made it very hard on us. She refused to allow us to sit in the parking lot to make other reservations but allowed the man and his friends to use the parking lot to smoke weed. He told us she always allows them to use the Parking Lot to smoke when ever, she just wanted to embarrass us infront of people for some unknown reason. Very unprofessional and Very...
Read moreDogs barked all night long. It is supposed to be a smoke free facility, the hallway reeked of cigarette smoke and marijuana. The elevator was broken and we were given a room on 5th floor. When I told the Desk Clerk he was going to have to cancel my reservation, he ignored my request and found us a room on the first floor. The pillows were too flat and there was only two pillows on the bed. In the bathroom, there was exactly, one washcloth and one towel for each guest. I have never seen anything like it. They do not serve breakfast. When I used a Clorox wipe on the bathroom floor I was wiping up long stands of hair that clearly did not belong to me and an indicator that the bathroom had been half cleaned. I am used to people in Winston-Salem being cordial and friendly. The interactions with the staff was not reflective of my experiences in Winston-Salem. I actually forgot I was in Winston-Salem. It was truly an experience I have no intentions of repeating. The whole thing just left a bad taste in my mouth. Honestly, giving them 2 stars is generous. There is plenty I am leaving out. Staff disappears at night. This hotel does not have an all night desk staff like a normal hotel, which is...
