If you're looking to stay on the mountain, and pay a few dollars less, stay here. You'll just need to take the Cabriolet from the hotel to the mountain and that's pretty easy. Let's talk about this hotel: It's older. It states that in a variety of reviews. If you need new, fancy, gorgeous rooms, with granite bathrooms and new furniture? this isn't your place. However, if Formica counters in the kitchen, well worn carpet and a few nicks and dents in furniture and doors is not important, this is the place for you. It was very clean and well maintained! The bathrooms are small (it appears the tub/showers have seen some renovation; they were nice and updated with great water pressure) but have medicine cabinets to store bathroom items. We had a room with two double (not queens) beds that were very comfy; four pillows each. Great Wi-Fi reception. The walls are a bit thin; I could hear a phone ring in another room, but couldn't hear ppl talking.
Rooms come with: -kitchenette with stove, microwave, dishwasher and fridge. No oven. Having a kitchenette was awesome and fully stocked with all the cooking items you'd need; we had silverware and place settings for four. It even had a darn blender. Also had cleaning supplies for kitchen too; dish soap, paper towels, dishwasher detergent, extra trash bags. real coffee maker; not a Keurig; they do supply coffee, instant creamer and sweeteners. (I brought my own coffee and bought creamer at the Mercantile at the Village) -there is a humidifier which is great for those of us coming from seriously humid states no A/C for those in the summer but the rooms do have a box fan -hair dryer attached to wall -really small-sized toiletries but did provide shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and soap
Random things to note: -We were on 2nd floor which I loved b/c there are only two elevators and they are slow. So we took the stairs most days. -Our first room overlooked the pool; not good. It's loud so ask to avoid that; we moved. -they have a tiny little sundries store with things like individual cereal, granola bars, drinks, hot chocolate, ramen, etc. -If I remember, they do sell beer. Extra note; If you're a wine drinker, you can only buy bottles in Winter Park; they don't sell at the Village.
You are literally steps from the Cabriolet that takes you two and from the ski area; it's like a 90 second to two minute ride. In the winter it runs 7:30am - 5:30pm and then there is a complimentary shuttle after that, until 10:00pm. So you can do dinner in the Village and ride back.
On our visit, we did not have daily housekeeping. This could be because right now, there is a staffing issue EVERYWHERE. I was told this info at check-in and the very nice man said they were staffed 24 hours a day, should we need anything. It actually was no big deal b/c I was able to clean up after cooking in the kitchen; I had the supplies and I sure as heck don't use a clean towel every day at home; why would I need to do that at a hotel?
I gave it 4 out of 5 because it is older, and that's the reason why. I felt I got the value for my money and...
Read moreMy family and I stayed at Winter Park Vintage over Spring Break. We stayed in a 1-bedroom Loft, which was really two hotel rooms connected by a single door. The hotel room had 2 queen beds and the loft included a queen down and queen up, a kitchenette, table, and fireplace. The accommodations were roomy for our family of five, which included two boys and a toddler. We decided to stay an extra day, due to a blizzard the blew in mid-week.
We skied and snowboarded for 4 out of the 6 days at the Winter Park Mountain Resort. Following are pros and improvements regarding our stay.
Pros (Vintage): Room was accommodating for our family and had a nice view of the pool and mountain ranges (rooms 340 and 342). Kitchenette had everything needed for most meals, although refrigerator is a mini-fridge, so we kept a cooler to accommodate. Front desk was very accommodating to our questions and needs. Easy access to the pool and large hot tub. There are porch heaters and a wet room that make getting in and out of the hot tub accommodating. Restaurant and bar downstairs. The food was quite good and bar service was great. Gondola lift to the Winter Park Mountain Resort from 7:00am – 6:00 pm. Bus Service every 30 minutes after 6:00 pm. I hate to mention this, but I do a thorough bed bug check at every hotel I stay in (yes I have found them in some of the nicest hotels) – NONE found here. Improvements (Vintage): Rooms need updating. The room we stayed in had wallpaper pealing at the seams and there was a large area in the loft above the bed that looks like a large painting was removed and paint started, but not finished. Allergies – I don’t understand it, but everyone in our party – included others that stayed in other rooms had severe allergy reactions. One theory is that the hotel does not have A/C, so in the summer fans bring in the pollen from outside and it rests in the carpet… Lockers are nice in the hotel, but the walk from the lifts is 0.4 miles. This is a long walk at the end of a day, with kids, wearing ski boots, and hauling stuff. It would be stellar if the Vintage had some space located near the lifts for guests to store their stuff. We ended up using the rental cages to store skis and snowboards (long line) and then pulled kids and backpack in wagon (scarce at the end of the day). Hot tub is nice, but easily 100 people rotate through it per night. The water smell was dank after a few days and you could smell it on your swim suit. I noticed the staff cleans and puts chemicals in every morning, but the amount of people rotating through the water should be refreshed every other day. One way is to release and refresh 25% every third day to keep it fresh. Front desk fields lots of questions – everything from park information to highway conditions. This creates lines, as well as blocks main entry. Consider concierge service – even better similar to cruise ships if the cleaning staff acted as a contact point, then leave a gratuity envelope at the...
Read moreWe were in Winter Park for the national mountain biking championships. We had booked a room at a hotel in the town of Winter Park, and it turned out to be subpar. When we drove over to the resort, we passed by the vintage hotel, and I knew that was where I wanted to stay. I called, and the friendly receptionist said she had a couple of studio rooms available, so we went over there immediately and booked a room. I asked if we could have a room with a Mountain View, and she said she would do her best.We went back to our subpar hotel and checked out , and by the time we got back to the vintage hotel, the receptionist had our room ready for us. Lacey was wonderful. And the room was wonderful. It had a Mountain View, and It was large enough for me, my husband, his two bikes, and our son who came to days later. It had a little kitchenette, so we were able to cook our own breakfast. A little mini gondola took us from the hotel to the very center of the village. So convenient. We never had to get in our car. We were scheduled to check out on Friday after my husband‘s last race, but it turned out it was just a qualifying race, and the race was actually on Saturday. The hotel was booked out, but Kathy, the miracle worker manager, managed to find a spot for us and then moved things around and actually kept us in the same room one more night. And my husband won the gold medal in his race! All in all, it was a wonderful experience. Thanks so much to the lovely receptionist that booked the room in the first place and to Kathy for making the arrangements for us to stay one more night. We...
