First let me say that our stay with Napa Valley Lodge was EXCELLENT with just one concern - the view was not what we expected. My wife and I stayed in June 2018 in the King Fireplace Vineyard View Deluxe Room. The room was clean, updated, and open w/vaulted ceilings. There was a large flat screen TV (50-60"), wood burning fireplace, new and quiet climate control system (not a wall unit), ceiling fan with remote control over the bed, a beautiful large balcony overlooking a small vineyard and water fountain and one of the most conformtable beds we have slept in at any hotel. One of the highlights of the room was the Nespresso coffee machine... wow, some of the best coffee we've had and we are somewhat snobs when it comes to bold/dark coffee. We are buying one of these machines this week ourselves! Now at first we were very disappointed in the view of our room and we actually called the front desk to change rooms. We were in Napa to get away from kids, and to have a quiet vineyard experience. The view from our room was a small vineyard, but also with the busy road to your left, and a city street to the right that the townspeople felt the need to test their 0-60 speeds on as they left town. Directly to our right was a park. When I booked the room, I knew the park was there and I thought it would be great to have a room right near a vineyard and a park. That sounded nice and reasonably secluded (albeit while being at the edge of town). However, the "park" next to the hotel is more of a playground and there were children laughing and screaming and playing when we checked in. NOT what we expected. Just be aware to ask how close your room is to the park. We were on the end (which again seemed like the most secluded) but this meant we were right next to the park. We had to remind ourselves that this hotel is not a Napa resort in a secluded vineyard at the base of the mountains, rather it is in town and some of this is expected. We also had to remind ourselves that for $500/night we weren't going to get the secluded vineyard experience of a resort charging $1500-2000/night which seems to be the summer Napa rate for complete privacy and seclusion. So, after we settled in and adjusted our mindset, we didn't want to leave and we realized how great of a place this was. There is also a beautiful courtyard area with a pool, hot tub and many tables/chairs and cabanas. We were told there was also wait staff at certain times of day at the pool for drinks/food but we didn't notice any. (Not sure if we were there at the right times). We had a bottle of white wine each time so we were good. We did not use the spa service even though it was a main reason we booked the hotel. The reservation team did a great job and I was charged 1 night's stay upon booking and the rest once I arrived, just as they said. Check in was swift and the complimentary glasses of champagne were refreshing. Before our trip they called me to confirm and spent quite a bit of time on the phone with me answering all my many questions. I mentioned we wanted to do a hot air balloon ride, and they offered to book through them. I told them the day and they texted me back a confirmation within minutes. By booking one of their packages we also received complimentary hot breakfast cooked to order in the room every morning in addition to a complimentary bottle of wine. The breakfast each day was delightful. The hot air balloon ride was AMAZING. Almost everything in Yountville is in walking distance and we walked back the morning of the balloon ride. It is a LOVELY small town, quiet, with great restaurants and wineries all around it. In fact, many of the Napa Valley wineries and restaurants recommended to us were in or around Yountville, and not near the town of Napa itself. The hotel has a few bikes (we saw 2) that you can use for free, just know that they are first come, first serve. But in reality you can really walk to everything. Make you try Jessup winery (tasting room 2 blocks from the Lodge) and Cakebread (amazing Chardonnay and just...
Read moreDuring our recent fires when we most needed the support of our community, Max (manager) made our lives even worse than they otherwise would have been. We were out of the country when the fires erupted and had to orchestrate the evacuation of our house-sitter and pets from Europe. They first went to the North Block Hotel where they were welcomed with open arms and given whatever they needed, including a pet-friendly atmosphere. Unfortunately, when North Block lost power due to the fires, our housesitter went to the Napa Valley Lodge. When Max informed our friend that he insisted that we FAX him authorization for our credit card (we were on a ship at 3am Germany time) we made no less than six phone calls, each terminating before Max "was able" to take our call. Through my repeated, frantic pleading, his receptionist insisted that only a facsimile would work but she would transfer me to the “manager" if I could only hold for a couple minutes. Six times this happened until I was finally able to contact a friend in the local area who said she was our daughter and authorized the payment. Finally, Max accepted our credit card but insisted that our pets be kept in their carriers for the entire duration of their miserable stay. Upon our return to Napa, we had to pick up some items left at the hotel by our house-sitter. Not surprisingly, Max was too busy to speak to us regarding our unfortunate experience, so I mentioned to his staff that I would be posting a review of their hotel. Wow, had I known at 3am when I was trying to deal with the hotel manager what it took to get his attention, we would have been spared a great deal of stress and frustration. Poor Max finally had a minute to run out of the hotel lobby shouting that he wanted to give us something to change our review. Yeah, I'll bet! Stay at this hotel or not - but for the record, the North Block Hotel, Westin Hotel, River Terrace Inn and the Meritage Resort all went over and above our expectations in accommodating locals and our pets during this trying time for the Napa Valley. As a side note regarding the Napa Valley Lodge, their lobby absolutely reeked from the smell of mildew. I would insist on smelling my room to see if it is similarly tainted...
Read moreNapa Valley Lodge is centrally located in Napa Valley in the famous town of Yountville. It is easy to drive to anywhere in the valley and perfect to walk to restaurants for dinner. If you want to be out of the hustle and bustle of Napa or St. Helena but still want world class restaurants this is the stop for you.
The lodge is beautiful and our room was perfect. The King Junior Suite had a large bathroom with shower and jacuzzi tub, wet bar with wine fridge and coffee maker, comfortable king bed with fireplace, large TV and couch. The sliding glass doors lead to a small porch looking out to the pool which was perfect to enjoy morning coffee in the cool weather.
Each morning a big champagne continental breakfast is served. It included unlimited Champagne, pastries, eggs, waffles, fruit, smoked salmon, waffle maker and more champagne.
We enjoyed the heated pool and jacuzzi each morning and evening. It was the perfect setting to bring a bottle of wine to sit by a fire pit enjoy in the jacuzzi.
The only reason the lodge doesn’t get 5 Stars is because it doesn’t offer a full selection of amenities. There is not a full service bar, restaurant or spa on the property. Overall we had an...
