We left really disappointed that we chose the tasting menu… 90++ usd each. Go for a la carte!!!
Me and my partner are visiting Napa, and we decided to go for the tasting menu, we wanted to see what the chef wanted to showcase and honestly very disappointing. Taste wise we were a little disappointed but to me that’s a minor issue given taste is preferential. Scallop and peaches dish was just way too peachy and sour you could barely taste the scallop.
The main thing was the portion sizes being waaaay too small. We’re from Thailand so we’re already not use to the usual huge American portions but we were shocked at how small each piece of food was. I expected the starters to be small, but the gnocchetti dish came and it was easy to count how many pieces we got, I’m sure you can see from the picture. Then the main dish came to my complete surprise we were served two (thumb size) pieces of steak… use the corn kernels on the side as a comparison…
We were left hungry after the main dish arrived that we had to ask the server for an a la carte item which he recommended a tagliatelle bolognese. Maybe my perspective is wrong but I don’t think anyone should leave a tasting menu feeling hungry. We regretted not going for the a la carte menu from the start, maybe we would have got our moneys worth. We considered going for a second meal in town right after but we were too tired. Not an experience I would recommend to anybody after spending 275 usd (all-in).
I will note though the server was really great and very attentive and made the evening slightly better but honestly the food just brought the whole...
Read moreWow, wow, and WOW! Went here for our anniversary and let me just say it was worth the drive. From Antioch area and wanted to celebrate with a great meal and atmosphere. Got a two for one for sure. Ended up starting with Happy Hour which is everyday from 3-6pm. We ordered the mushroom flatbread pizza (made with double zero flour) and the smash burger with house seasoned fries. Yummy and filling. Ingredients are fresh and carefully prepared. Also, Brenden who is a true mixologist whipped us up some espresso martini's (one with brandy and the other with Gin). Holy moly!
We also had dinner reservations for the Valley Coast tasting menu and it was nothing short of chef inspired culinary creations. Chef Jaun Cabrera (my apologies if I misspelled) is the mastermind behind this menu and takes pride and joy out of what is being served. We were graced with Duke as our server who was nothing but attentive and detail-oriented as well as the new GM Jessica who went above and beyond to make sure our dining experience was of a Royal experience. From the scallop, to the gnocchi, and sea bass to aged beef dish it was well thought out and flavorful. The whole dining staff made sure everything was cooked to perfection. I love great dining experiences and this was top 5. Dessert was whoa! Had the cheese plate called "fun" as well as the Tiramisu and lemon meringue. So good!
We will be back in the future to experience more culinary delights and AMAZING...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing experience from start to finish. Last year when we stayed at North Block we had trouble getting a good answer about whether they could accommodate my gluten allergy. This year the staff has been phenomenal… and they assured us it was no problem so we made a reservation. Gorgeous setting off the main street and extremely attentive service. We started w a new seasonal item - tomato and mozzarella salad - gorgeously marinated with the sweetest tomatoes, perfect seasoning and (finally) a great ratio of tomato to cheese. I had the halibut - only the freshest seafood! - cooked perfectly with the most interesting and delicious purée and my husband had the roast chicken - both top dishes. At that point, we were commenting that it was one the the best meals we’ve had in YEARS (and frankly much surpassed our dinner at Bouchon - which we always look forward to). The potato pave, by the way, was to die for. I could have that, a glass of wine, and be happy. But, my favorite part was dessert. I’m used to saying “no thanks” bc there are either no gluten free options, or the staff doesn’t know or it’s boring sorbet. This time I had a choice of options and chose the Macallan 18 caramel budino … simply sublime. The perfect texture and subtly sweetness and so unique! My husband, who never eats dessert, gladly shared it with me. Well worth a visit to this gem! Cancel your...
