I've been a member of Ma(i)sonry's wine club for more than 6 years. I have discovered two of my personal favorite wineries through their very diverse menu of small-production, unique "boutique" wineries. Their staff are friendly, accommodating (even to families with infants), and VERY knowledgable and passionate about the wines they serve.
Do plan ahead and make an appointment - you will not be disappointed with your personalized experience; it's worth the small fee. Even if you think you know nothing about wine, the staff go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and find something you'll enjoy. There is no pressure to buy anything, no hurt feelings if you leave without buying a bottle. This place is probably the best-kept secret of Yountville.
Almost every time I've visited on the weekends, one of the winemakers whose work I taste has been present; many of these independent vintners offer complimentary tastes of their latest releases, and all of them are fun and informative to talk to. Anyone in your group who is not a wine enthusiast will likely pass the time enjoyably by walking through the building (and yard) and taking in the eclectic variety of art on display - some of which you might be sitting on.
If you have no idea what to do on your trip to Napa Valley (and Yountville in particular) - make an appointment at Ma(i)sonry. And no, I do NOT work for them in any way, shape or form. I just believe in supporting a unique and worthwhile business...
ย ย ย Read moreI just returned from a visit to Yountville. I went to many wineries and tasting rooms. I was excited to visit RH Yountville wine Vault. However, I was very disappointed with my wine tasting visit. It was about 96 degrees outside and I reserved a tasting inside. However, I believe it was far hotter inside than out. There were no fans or ac on. They had windows open but there was no breeze. It was gross. I didn't full realize out hot until after we sat at the table for several minutes. After attending many tastings, I was extremely surprised when the server brought all 4 sparkling white wines out at one time for us! I did not experience this at any of my tasting experiences in Yountville or anywhere in Napa Valley. Needless to say the white wines warmed up very fast. I tasted 2 of them before I just gave up. It is hard to drink a warm white sparkling wine on a hot day. No one seemed to be concerned that we left the tasting glasses mostly full. I paid for 2 tastings and was so disappointed. It was truly a waste of every dollar spent. We met up with friends afterwards and they asked us for recommendations for a future visit. We gave them recommendations but also told them to avoid RH Yountville Wine Vault.
I would tell people to think twice. I felt the servers were uninterested in checking on customer...
ย ย ย Read moreWe loved Maisonry before the ownership changed- so we are probably spoiled. We have had the privilege of visiting Yountville four times and an afternoon at Maisonry has always been a staple. The historic home surround by art and a curated wine list according to one's tastes has always been a special draw for us. The fact that we have spent three afternoons tasting special wines for a reasonable price has been a delight. We have brought home several wines to Canada as a result of our experience. We visited RH Wine Vault today for the first time since the ownership changed and were unfortunately disappointed. The decor is lovely and the staff are attentive. However, everything that made this tasting room unique has disappeared. $50 for the Classic tasting is steep, and the wines are average. We looked forward to trying a variety if wines at various price points and values, and what we experienced didn't come close. The decor and atmosphere is relaxed- there isn't any pressure to buy. But, as previously mentioned, we visited Maisonry to try specialized wineries that didn't have their own tasting rooms. Now that RH has taken over, the limited selection is over priced and underwhelming. I hope they update their menu and prices as we would like to return. What was previously a staple in Yountville will be replaced by...
