I’ve Been Sleeping on Holiday Inn — But Now I’m Woke!
Let me start with a confession: I’m a loyal Bonvoy member: this experience is written with over 41 nights spent (this year alone and it’s May 2025) & w/169,222 points under my belt— I am a gold elite with Bonvoy.) My experiences at Holiday Inn in the past left me… less than enthusiastic. So when I had no other options nearby, I booked this stay with low expectations. But wow—was I in for a surprise. I wasn’t gonna mention the other hotel chain— but Marriot, listen up and take notes!!!!
The moment I walked into my room, it smelled CLEAN and FRESH. (Be honest—how often does that happen in a hotel?) The decor was updated, modern, and refined, and the room reflected that same attention to detail. Every surface was spotless, and it felt like someone actually cared about the guest experience.
And then—Dove. Liquid hand soap and lotion by Dove. I was genuinely shook. I turned to the shower, fully expecting generic, unbranded toiletries. Nope—Dove shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. I couldn’t believe it. Where has this Holiday Inn been hiding all this time?
The staff was warm, helpful, and kind throughout my stay. The bed? Comfortable and thoughtfully made—with pillows clearly labeled “firm” or “soft” (yes, that matters). The mattress was supportive without feeling stiff—no lumpy spots, no sagging middle. I’ve changed rooms in other in Marriot due to bad beds, but here, I slept like a dream.
One of the most thoughtful touches: I had to leave before breakfast hours, and the manager personally made sure I had a to-go bag packed for my early departure. That kind of attention isn’t common—and it meant a lot. So needless to say, I decided to run late to work and stay for breakfast. (And it was worth it!)
I’m not a huge breakfast eater, but the options were many! They were scrambled eggs, white egg omelette, with chips of red and green peppers and a cheese omelette swimming, I said swimming in cheese! And they had real sausage! Not just a breakfast sausage, actual linked sausage that look like it had been cut and tied off. I grabbed one of everything! There were REAL WARMED cinnamon rolls!!!
I’m not a coffee drinker… But they had a GRINDING coffee machine! I haven’t had coffee this good since… well, NEVER. Starbucks, nor Dunkin’ isn’t even this GOOD!!! (And I’m an EAST COAST GIRL— who grew up on Dunkin’.) It tasted smooth, creamy, and delicious. I normally drink half a cup of decaf… It was gone by the time I got to my destination.
Let me just say this one caveat; cc this particular Holiday Inn is owned by a woman, and the staff is mostly women… So, I think it’s time for the guys to take a queue from the ladies!
Here’s the thing—I rarely write reviews. If it’s just “fine,” I move on. But this experience? It was outstanding. So much so, I’ve already asked my company to book me at another Holiday Inn next week just so I can compare. I never thought I’d say this, but… I think I might be a Holiday Inn convert. I hope the next one is just as good!
To anyone who’s been overlooking this brand: PLEASE DON’T. They’ve stepped up in a MAJOR way. I was impressed—genuinely, unexpectedly, happily impressed. (If it sounds like I’m gushing— I am.) Sorry I didn’t have time to take pics, but TRUST...

Read moreThe hotel is nice, Shy was nice. The issue I experienced is that the pool room was way too hot, the temperature must have been well over 100 degrees. I called Shy to see if she could assist me. She went to the pool room and agreed, it was way too hot to swim, but there was nothing she could do. She had a guest within the previous few days that had the same issue. Just like me, he said that he could not imagine getting into the pool because it would be too hot to get out. I felt the water and it was cool but you would instantly be sweating the moment you stepped out of the pool. All other rooms were a good temperature, including the fitness room next door. I chose this hotel, out of about 10 options, because it was new and they had a pool. When I travel, I need to get a workout in but I do not like to use fitness centers, I swim or walk. And, I was not about to walk around Yuba City at night. I was not able to workout that night. Shy understood this and told me that she would have a manager contact me, that they would probably give me a free night stay or points. A week went by and I waited for a resolution, no one ever called me. I called today and was put on hold. The woman stated that she spoke to her GM who offered 2,000 points as a resolution. I was expecting a better resolution, 2,000 points does not get me anything, especially since I was the one who had to reach out as no one contacted me. Did they assume that the issue would go away if they ignored it? I complained about this resolution and the woman I was speaking with said, that is all the GM allowed me to do, I cannot do anymore. I was not even offered the opportunity to talk to the GM. She also told me that they were not going to do anything more because people have complained that the room was too hot and some that it was too cold, that it was the perception of the guest. Seriously! Check that temp, no one would have been comfortable with that. And, heads up, YOUR GUESTS' PERCEPTIONS ARE YOUR REALITY. If you want to stay in a new hotel, book it. But, don't expect any service or resolution if you experience issues. It seems that the employees want to help and resolve issues but they are not empowered to do so by their GM. I will not be back. Next time I have a conference in Wheatland, I will choose to stay...
